Sixth Years: Lesson 2

Professor Killian Borisyuk was sitting behind his desk with his arms behind his head as he waited for the sixth years to arrive. This was going to be one long lesson, so he knew that they would be in for it. It wasn't like Voldemort only had a few pages of acts he had done. Likely textbooks worth. And he was squeezing it all into one year. Killian would have to summarize a fair bit of it. He kept his green eyes on the door as the sixth years finally entered, and got settled down. Killian cleared his throat to gain their attention, "Notes out because we are getting right into it. This will be a long lesson. If you fall asleep, I'll take you out of the classroom." Killian almost said that he would throw them out, but some might take that as a death threat coming from him. And he rather not have that sort of drama on him because that would be such a headache and not worth it.

"Anyway, with that in mind, Lord Voldemort was born as Tom Marvolo Riddle. This you all should know. His actual birthday is 31st of December 1926. His mother died giving birth to him after she spiked Voldemort's father with a love potion. So, he was abandoned and raised in Wool's Orphanage. Even at a young age, he performed rather insidious acts on the other orphans there before he attended Hogwarts in Scotland. He was sorted into Slytherin, and school helped fund his supplies - courtesy of Dumbledore. He became a model student at Hogwarts, becoming a prefect, head boy, earning the Medal for Magical Merit, and fooled everyone around him of being this kind, brilliant student. That is, with the exception of Dumbledore. While in school, he even opened the Chamber of Secrets after becoming obsessed with his heritage, murdered a girl, and pinned it on a part-giant student that attended." Killian paused for a moment to reach out to his desk, grabbed his water bottle to take a small drink of it.

Voldemort had accomplished a lot, and he was just now touching base with it. "After graduating, Voldemort had a small group of 'friends', but more like servants really, and went off to collect more of those that would stand with his cause as he took a heavy stance against muggles and muggle-borns. They were 'unworthy' in his eyes. Voldemort abandoned his name and became known exclusively as Lord Voldemort and not Tom Riddle. He, at two separate points, attempted to become the Defence Against the Dark Arts. He was rejected the first time when he was 18, and then the second time a decade later when Dumbledore was in office. After that, no one remained in that position longer than a year, making people think it was jinxed. Perhaps it was, since it ended promptly after Voldemort died.

"So, Voldemort laid low for some time, secretly gathering followers. You know these people as Death Eaters, but originally, that was not their name."
Killian paused for a moment to let the students catch up as he was winding down on some of the material for the day. After all, the lesson was a good, long one and this entire year would be rather heavy. "Voldemort had a little gang of Slytherins back in school, but prior to 1970, Voldemort named his followers Knights of Walpurgis. Some of the gang members then shared the same surnames as the Knights of Walpurgis, so either they were the same people, or related in some manner. This is the origin of the Death Eaters, which you will hear more of them in the next lesson." Killian looked at his watch and saw that now was a good time to end the class. "Homework is over your opinion over the real reason why Voldemort might have wanted the position at Hogwarts, and what happened after he was denied. Class dismissed." Killian motioned toward the door and let the students free.
Assignment: RP the lesson.
Extra credit: 5 EC points for assignment. No research needed. Just have your student give their opinion over why he wanted to teach. Was it to really educate, recruit, dance with the ghosts over their amazing Hallowe'en party, or try to be good, the choice is yours.
