Seventh Years; Lesson Two

Professor Lyra Potter was wandering around the classroom as the students arrived, placing a small box with holes in it on each desk. "Welcome! I want to get things rolling quickly. Take a seat." She said cheerfully as she placed the last box out and returned to her own desk in the front of the room.

"Today we will be focusing on untransfiguration and nonverbal spells. Does anyone remember what untransfiguration is?" she asked the class. A student raised their hand. "Yes?" she asked, pointing to the student who raised their hand first. She nodded. "You must have been paying attention last lesson. Great answer." She paused, then started to pace the aisle between the desks. "In the boxes on your desk you contain frogs. You will be transfiguring them into grasshoppers and back to frogs, using nonverbal spells. Just for review, who can tell me what the spell is for this transfiguration?" she asked. She nodded at another student, who gave her the correct spell. "Exactly."

"The main thing to remember is to focus. You don't want to be thinking of a dog or cat and end up with a very odd animal. You will use the three tap method of course. You may verbalize the spell, but I would like each of you to also practice it non-verbally. You will change the frog to a grasshopper, then back to a frog, like this."
She moved to the closest desk and opened the box. She took out the frog and placed it on the desk, tapping it three times. With a bit of a poof, the frog quickly became a grasshopper. Another three taps and the frog was back. "Any questions before we begin?" she asked. Seeing none, she gave the students the go ahead to start practicing.

Homework: RP the lesson. First poster answer the first question, second person answer the second question. Good luck!

Elio took a seat in transfiguration. He still couldn't believe that Mikael had been going around and telling people that they'd broken up. Okay so he'd only told like two people, but it was more than Elio would have liked, especially since it hadn't been true. The class started quickly and he looked down at the box on his desk, curious what they were going to be doing. He raised his hand when she asked a question about untransfiguration. "It's the process of reversing a transfiguration spell, essentially returning an object or creature to its original form. It's like undoing the magical changes we make through transfiguration, ensuring the original state is restored properly." He paused, glancing at Professor Potter make sure he'd gotten it right before sitting back a little in his seat. He was excited for what they would be learning. When they were directed to do so, he opened the small box on his desk, peeking in to find a rather unimpressed-looking frog staring back at him. He took a deep breath, he'd been struggling a little with non-verbal elements, anreven with the practice, he was struggling to really get them. With his wand in hand, he gently placed the frog on the desk, its slimy skin glistening under the classroom lights. He visualised the grasshopper he wanted to conjure, tapped his wand three times, and then murmured the incantation under his breath. A small puff of magic later, the frog transformed into a nimble grasshopper, its legs twitching as it adjusted to its new form. Elio grinned, pleased with the result, and then steeled himself for the reversal. This time, he focused on casting nonverbally, tapping the grasshopper with intent. A few nerve-wracking seconds passed before it shifted back into a frog, looking no worse for wear. Elio let out a quiet sigh of relief, making a mental note to refine his focus to ensure smoother transitions in the future.

Savannah had been thinking a lot about what her last costume would be for the halloween feast. Savannah knew the moment she left school, she wasn’t going to be one to seek out costumes and parties, she would work because that was what she was supposed to do. Savannah was therefore keen to have one last good hurrah before she did so. The ravenclaw had a few ideas but now really wasn’t the time for that, she keenly put those thoughts away and then focused on grabbing what she needed for the day ahead and then heading out of the dorm room.

Savannah walked into the transfiguration classroom and took her usual spot in the room and looked up at the professor as the woman got started. The fact they’d be focusing on transfiguration was something that was pretty appealing to her. She took her wand and then looked to the professor as the woman explained about what the spell was. She made sure that she knew exactly what they were to do, and then they were allowed to get started. She took her wand and looked at the frog. She tapped three times and said the spell. It changed immediately and then she tried to do the transfiguration and it took quite a bit to change back. She wasn’t particularly happy with that, but knew she’d get better at it eventually. She just had to work at it. She did the spell again and was better at it. Savannah practiced until the lesson was wrapped up.
