Seventh Years: Lesson Two

Professor Kalif Styx stood in front of his desk as the seventh years arrived. On each desk rested a box with a couple of holes in it. Within the box rested a frog for each student. Of course, he had them brought in rather than conjuring them himself. If the students messed up, it would honestly be on them, and they would have to deal with actually injuring such a creature should they fail. He did not even place a silencing spell on the frogs, so a few made a soft sound. He gestured for the seventh years to take their seats to get the lesson going. He waited until it was time to start the lesson. "As you can see, each of you have a box on your desk. Do not open the lid yet. After all, today, you will be focusing on untransfiguration and nonverbal spells."

Styx felt that he did not need to ask someone if they remembered what the term 'untransfiguration' was. If they were not paying attention before, then they would not last long. "Inside your boxes rest a frog. You will be transfiguring them into grasshoppers, and then back to frogs. I am sure you remember the incantation for this, but just in case, it is Locusta." Styx knew that it had been a while since they used it, provided that they did not go around turning frogs to grasshoppers any chance they got. "The process of untransfiguration is simple. There are no incantations for it. You will need to focus, and use the three tap method for turning the frog into a grasshopper, and again to undo it. If you need to verbalize the initial spell, you may do so, but I would focus on nonverbal work first."

He made sure that they had the assignment at hand in their mind. "You don't want to think of any other animal while you are transfiguring or untransfiguring. You will end up with a monstrosity, and the animal could feel pain from it. These frogs are not conjured, as they are very much real, so no pressure." Styx gestured for them to get started, since he doubted that he needed to demonstrate for them to understand the task. Styx walked around the classroom to observe the students. "Once you have transfigured your frogs to and from grasshoppers, you may leave." Styx added as he continued to watch the students succeed or fail at their assignment.
Assignment: RP the lesson.

It was heading deeper into the term, and Chaos Zhefarovich the Second was looking forward to graduating so that he could do something with his life. Something more meaningful. Going to school, doing essays, none of it seemed to be worth much of anything. Chaos doubted that this would end up high up on the list of things needed for a resume for work. The Gryffindor prefect gathered up what he needed to head to class, and knew that at this time, he would end up a little early. So, he could take his time and just enjoy the walk. He did not need to saunter too much. He eventually entered the classroom, and settled in. He was on time, and right on time too. Punctuality was part of his attributes.

Chaos stared at the front for the Transfiguration classroom because of who was teaching. He heard Professor Styx inform them not to open the lid of the box that rested on his desk. There were a few sounds that erupted from the boxes, so he knew what they were. Frogs. They would be working on untransfiguration today, and how they would be turning them to grasshoppers, and then back. No incantation for it. Just the three tap method. He took the lid off of the box to get to work. They were reminded that the frogs were real, and this could harm them. Chaos did not care either way, but he got started. Chaos transfigured it into a grasshopper and then worked to turn it back. Once he had, it turned it in and left. That was harder than he thought.
