Seventh Years Lesson Three

Even though Leda knew the plant they'd be studying today wasn't any more dangerous that a four year old wielding a pair of safety scissors, similarly enough the redhead didn't want to get too close to it for comfort as she waited for the seventh years to enter the room and behold the Venomous Tentacula, at the front of the greenhouse.

Leda smiled to the class, getting quickly to it. "Afternoon everyone! Here you'll see if a Venomous Tentacula, which will probably trying to bite your fingers off if you get too close," it wouldn't of course, only the wild ones would do that, but Leda didn't want to lead the students into a false sense of security.

“Venomous Tentacula are predatory plants, using their spikes and mobile vines to grab live prey,” she said, pointing at the spines with her wand because she needed to keep her fingers thank you very much. “The spikes are venomous, hence the name, as is the ‘bite’ from one. The tentacula expels venom from their vines as they reach for prey before attempting to strangle them. They’ll even go after humans, they’re not picky,” she said with a slight nervous laugh as the plant twitched slightly.

“Now, any thoughts on how you might defend yourself from such a plant? They’re sometimes used as a defensive measure,” Leda nodded to a student as they raised their hand, considering their answer. “Yep, a severing charm would work perfectly, stun the plant and then severs the tentacles neatly,” she explained, hoping that her niece would never have to decapitate a plant. “Very good. 10 house points for quick thinking.”

"That's all we have time for today, but I will say I am taking name recommendations so if you think of something catchy we can call this plant, let me know!"
Amortentia had a habit of naming the plants around the greenhouse, but it would have been nice if Leda could do more to help the students feel connected to the nature. "Don't forget this is your NEWT year so make sure you're studying and revising the content unless you want to graduate without it."
