As much fun as teaching the first years had been, Ainsley was especially excited for the second years. This had been the last group to buy their wands while she still worked at Ollivanders, and she wondered if she would see any familiar faces or familiar wands in the room. It was a strange, painful nostalgia, though she still knew that leaving Ollivanders had been the right decision. Diving back into a brand new busy, hectic job was risky, but she knew with her therapist's advice she would be able to get by.
So Ainsley was doing her best to stay positive and upbeat as the second years filtered into the room, greeting them all with bright smiles. Once the room was full she sent up a bright set of sparks to get the class's attention, smiling as she looked around at all the faces. "Welcome everyone, get comfortable. My name is Professor Lynch, I'll be your new Charms teacher. Before we get into today's lesson I'd like to do a quick set of introductions, just so we all know each other. We'll go around the room, and each say your name, house, and one interesting fact about you."
"Since I'm new here I'll start us off." She smiled encouragingly. "My name is Ainsley Lynch, and I was a Hufflepuff when I was a student here. An interesting fact about me is that I used to run Ollivanders and work as a wandmaker, so there's a decent chance some of you are going to be casting spells today with wands I made myself." She said brightly, before gesturing on for the first student to answer.
Once they had gone around the room, Ainsley clapped her hands together cheerfully. "Welcome everyone. It's wonderful to meet you all. We're going to get started straight away now with your first spell of the year." With a flick of Ainsley's wand, the word SCOURGIFY and an illustration of the wand movement appeared on the blackboard behind her, the etched hand dutifully animating with the correct gesture on loop.
"Now, if you come from a magical household, Scourgify is probably a spell you're used to hearing adults around you cast, but I know that this classroom is the first place I ever heard it." She smiled comfortingly. "Scourgify is a cleaning charm, it does exactly what it sounds like, and works on just about any surface or kind of dirt. Not a terribly glamourous spell, but I would be willing to bet that out of everything you learn in Charms at Hogwarts, this is the spell you'll be using the most in the rest of your life."
"Now, let's get into the practical." Ainsley raised her wand. "Repeat after me - Scourg-i-fy." She demonstrated both the pronunciation and gesture a few times, making sure the class were following correctly before she moved on. "Excellent." She beamed. "Now, we're going to spend the rest of the class practicing." With a flick of Ainsley's wand, a pile of unwashed dishes from the kitchens appeared before each student. "I'll be roaming around, so please call me over if you need any help. Once your stack is clean, call me over to check them, and then you can go, though on your way out please take one of the lists of spells to study for the next few classes." With the task assigned, Ainsley spent the rest of the class roaming and helping any students who may need it.
