Second Years, Lesson Five

Professor Adelia stood at the front of the room as the first years filed in, arms crossed, gaze steady and unreadable. She waited until the scraping of chairs and bags quieted before she spoke, voice calm but firm. "Morning. Today’s going to be a bit different. I don’t know if you’re all still excited by the idea of Hide and Seek, but that’s exactly what we’ll be doing. Don’t get too pleased with yourselves yet—we have a spell to cover first." With a flick of her wand, the chalk wrote neatly on the board: Homenum Revelio. Trina watched them closely. "Who can tell me what this does?" She waited, nodding as a student answered. "Correct. Homenum Revelio reveals the presence of people in a given area. It doesn’t matter if they’re hidden—you’ll know where they are."

She shifted her stance, voice lowering slightly. "Anyone revealed might feel something like a breeze over their head. Incantation is simple: Homenum Revelio. Wand movement is straightforward—hold it steady and point." She paused just long enough for a few scribbled notes. Then she gestured sharply toward the door. "Leave your things. Bring your wands. We’re headed to the second floor to practice." Trina led them through the halls, boots thudding quietly on stone. On the second floor, she turned and surveyed them, arms folded across her chest.

"Alright. Here’s how this works. You’re playing Hide and Seek. The Seeker gets five minutes to find as many classmates as they can using the spell. Everyone else gets thirty seconds to hide. If you’re not found, you stay hidden until the next round—unless I call you out." She raised an eyebrow slightly. "All doors are locked. Don’t think you’ll be sneaking into classrooms. This is about using your magic—not your feet. Use the charm or you’ll be wandering blind." He pointed at the student nearest him. "You’re first Seeker. Everyone else, go hide. Thirty seconds." She waited, voice low but unmistakably amused. "Ready? Good luck."

She gave them a beat before calling out firmly. "GO!" She watched them scatter, taking slow steps as she began supervising the hall. Through each round she made careful notes in a battered notebook, tallying points and pausing only to offer a quiet word of correction or praise. When the final five-minute round ended, she called them back with a nod. "Well done. Grab your things. Class dismissed."
