Magdalene wasn't a big letter writer, but for some reason, she enjoyed the Owlery. Her sister, who was not a huge fan of things that flew, found it odd that she'd want to spend time with a bunch of owls, but the balcony overlooking the school grounds offered stunning views at sunrise and sunset. It gave Maggie a chance to clear her head and get ready for the day since their dorms were so close. This morning, though, she had gone all the way down to sneak a cup of tea out of the Great Hall and bring it back with her to the Owlery. Her friends back home were likely drinking coffee, but she'd become partial to tea since coming to New Zealand and going to school with students from around the world.

The fifth year looked out at the sunrise and smiled, leaning on the stone as she thought about her first day back with classes. This year was important for her future. She still wasn't sure whether she wanted to pursue a career in the muggle or magical world, but she knew that if she ever wanted to do something in the magical world, she needed to do well on her OWLs, and that started today.

Amory had never really had anyone to write to. Having no parents or relatives meant there was nobody back at 'home' waiting for his letters. He'd never truly made any friends outside of Hogwarts, he'd even come here thinking he didn't need friends. Still Amory sometimes wrote letters, pretending there was someone waiting for them. Sometimes he even climbed up to the owlery to send the letters off, but he made sure to do that at a time when there was less likely to be any other's students around.

Today Amory had written another letter and made his way up to the owlery, with the intention to send an owl to drop the letter off somewhere. The letters Amory sent off were usually very ambiguous, ones that didn't matter if someone read them or not. He thought that maybe the owl would just drop it over the ocean and call it a day. As the fifth year arrived at the top he was rather surprised to find someone up there this early. "I see I am not the only one sneaking up early hoping to catch a bit of alone time?" Amory broke the silence in a joking manner, hoping he didn't seem like he was creeping up on the girl. The Slytherin hid the suddenly all too dumb of a letter behind his back.
