After his run in with Asaiah Octavian was a little nervous about the valentines dance because he knew that he had to tell Marisol about his engagement. He liked Marisol, a lot, and he doubted very much that she would want anything to do with him when she learned the news. Once Octavian was happy with his suit he made his way down to the Great hall and went inside to grab a drink. He opted to meet Marisol at the dance rather than in the common room because he wanted to give a little more time with her positive opinion of him, before he destroyed it. The Gryffindor sipped at his pumpkin juice as he looked around the hall, waiting for Marisol to arrive.

Marisol was glad that she and Octavian had agreed to meet at the great hall instead of the common room because she was running late trying to make sure she looked good in her dress. She decided to wear the white dress she had almost worn for the yule ball instead, but now she was glad she still got a chance to wear it today. Once she was ready she walked down to the great hall and looked around the room carefully for her crush, smiling once she spotted him. Marisol walked up to him and put her hands around his eyes saying, "Guess who?" before uncovering them and turning him around to face her.

Octavian felt hands cover his eyes and everything was briefly black. As soon as she spoke he knew who it was but he decided to play along. "Oh I don't know, Pina?" He laughed as Marisol span him around. Taking the chance, he leaned forward and kissed her, lingering for a few moments before pulling away and taking her hands. "Marisol before we go any further I have something to tell you," He took a deep breath. "My family is pure blood and in an effort for that to remain so, they've arranged for me to marry a pure blood girl," Octavian held back on telling her who it was, if she wanted nothing more to do with him than at least he could spare her the identity of his fiancée.

Marisol had a lot of feelings about his stupid sister who had sent him a warning message but instead she was worried as he brought up something else. She hated that he brought up his sister because she had every intention to tell him about the rose, but she couldn't at the moment. "Wait what?" she said confused. "You're...engaged?" she asked, hating the implication. Tears welled in her eyes as she thought about how good things had been going with the two so far. "But what about us?"

Octavian couldn't bare to see the tears welling up in Marisol's eyes. He hated that he was the one doing that to her but she needed to know the truth, he couldn't keep lying to her, especially know that Asaiah knew the truth. "I'm sorry, I didn't expect this, I only found out recently, then you happened and I didn't know how to tell you, I like you Marisol, but there couldn't be an us while I was keeping this from you,"

Marisol had been wondering when Octavian would officially ask her to be his girlfriend already, but with this news she knew that was probably not happening anymore. She pulled her hands away from him, hurt, and scoffed at his response, her sadness quickly being replaced with anger. "There can't be an us at all if you're with someone else!" she pointed out. The idea of an arranged marriage in this day and age, especially to preserve their precious blood was completely barbaric. She hadn't known that Octavian was pureblood and it bothered her because she was Muggleborn and she knew how most purebloods viewed her kind. "An arranged marriage, what is this the 1800's?" she said rhetorically, scoffing again at the idea. Now she understood Agrippina's rose message a little better, but she still didn't appreciate it.

Octavian found himself mentally cursing his parents as he stood in front of Marisol, he eyes filled with pain. She was angry and she didn't blame him, but he needed to make her understand how he felt. "I'm not with her, I'm being forced into it, I don't want her, I want out," It was the first time he had said the words out loud. Octavian knew it was highly unlikely his parents would let him out of such an arrangement, especially not if he followed it up with telling them about his feelings for a muggle born. "I can get out of the engagement, I'm sure I can," Octavian was desperately clutching at straws. He needed Marisol to know he was sincere. "I've wanted you to be my girlfriend since we met, but you needed to know what you were getting into,"

Marisol stood with her arms crossed over her chest, wanting to stay mad at Octavian especially for choosing the dance to tell her. But her experssion softened as she listened to him, especially when he said he wanted to get out of the marriage. She liked Octavian a lot and she knew they were too young to even think about something like a future together, but even if they didn't end up together, it was not fair for Octavian not to be able to choose who he wanted to be with. Marisol chewed on her lower lip as she mulled over what he said, and couldn't help the hint of a smile when he mentioned that he wanted her to be his girlfriend. "There's no way your parents can force you to marry someone you don't want to. You have to get out of it," she said decidedly, as if it was that easy. She felt herself calming down but still stiffened when she asked, "Is your sister in an arranged marriage?" By her tone of voice it was obvious the Ravenclaw girl was not her favorite person.

Octavian was glad to see that Marisol's expression was softening, perhaps what he was saying to her was getting through. He was happy to see her so passionate about him being able to make his own decisions and getting out of his marriage. She was right, he should be able to make his own decisions about who he married, and though they were far too young to think of such things, Octavian and Marisol should have been free to date without something as archaic as an arranged marriage hanging over them. "You're right, and I want to, I'm sure she does too, I'm hardly her favourite person," He sighed, his time with Marisol had but him in his fiancée's bad books. When she asked about his sister he knew where she was going, "No, she isn't, it's just me,"

Marisol arched her eyebrow as soon as Octavian mentioned his fiancee. Thinking of him being with someone else made Marisol jealous, so it gave her some satisfaction in knowing he didn't want to be with this person and that whoever she was didn't seem to favor Octavian either. "So who is she?" Marisol asked, trying - and failing - to sound casual about it. She rolled her eyes when he said only he was in the arranged marriage but said, "That's totally unfair! Why are you in one then?"

Marisol asked him the one question he had really hoped she wouldn't. She wanted to know who his fiancée was. Octavian had to tell her, she asked, and if he wanted to salvage what they had then he needed to be honest and open with her. "Do you remember Halloween? The group of girls I was with, well do you remember seeing a first year? Her name is Camelia and she's a Gryffindor too," One of the reasons he didn't want to tell her was because she was in their house, she was someone the two of them would see a lot. Even if Marisol was able to put this behind her and give Octavian a chance, Camelia would be a constant reminder of his engagement. "I don't know why me, maybe they just knew the family, they wanted to marry their only daughter to a pure blood, they decided it would be me," He sighed. It was unfair that it was him and not his sister, but it was what it was.

Marisol's mouth dropped open slightly as he revealed that his fiancee had been in that little group of girls that had surrounded him on Halloween, but her face quickly turned into a scowl. She remembered she had first assumed Octavian was a flirt because he had been surrounded by girls at the Halloween feast, but knowing he was actually engaged to one of the girls who had been there made her feel even worse. She tightened her arms across her chest and huffed in annoyance. She had been hoping that his fiancee would be some distant hometown friend and not someone from school but knowing she was also a Gryffindor meant it was easy for them to run into her. "Your sister is friends with her isn't she?" Marisol asked, understanding the intent behind Pina's rose as more was revealed to her. "I got one of those Valentine's roses from your sister basically telling me to back off," the latina decided to tell him, clearly annoyed at the girl's interference. "She didn't sign it but I'm pretty sure it was from her. Or maybe from your stupid fiancee, who knows now," she shrugged. Marisol sighed sadly and put her face in her hands and then looked back up at him as she said, "So what happens between us now?"

Octavian expected a reaction when he told her that his fiancée was in the same house as them. Nothing he was saying was making anything better, but he knew that it was a lot to take in for Marisol. If she ever spoke to him again it would be a miracle. "Yeah, they're friendly, Pina was against it at first but she liked her," Octavian shrugged his shoulders. His sister had been an ally in his situation but she had quickly turned on him. "Marisol I'm so sorry, I had no idea," Octavian couldn't believe his sister would do such a thing. She had no business getting involved in his relationships. When Marisol asked what would happen between them, Octavian was rather surprised the question was even still out there. He had expected for her to put an en to things then and there. "I like you, a lot, I don't want to lose you,"

Marisol didn't like that his sister was clearly on his fiancee's side of things because she hadn't even gotten to know Marisol. Though judging from the fact that this was a pureblood family that cared about things like marrying to keep their blood sacred, she didn't think Agrippina would like her very much anyway. Perhaps it was for the best because if she ever saw Pina Marisol would probably rip her apart and make sure every drop of their stupid precious blood was wasted. Marisol squared her shoulders and told Octavian, "Well your sister thinks she can scare me off but I'm not going anywhere," she crossed her arms over her chest again. "I like you too, and I want to be with you," Marisol said trying to be nonchalant and confident as she said it, though she couldn't help the pink blush in her cheeks as she spoke. It wasn't fair that one of the few things that actually made her happy should be taken away from her just because his parents were ridiculous. Besides, Octavian said he would get out of his engagement and he wasn't with his fiancee, so what was the harm in dating now?

Octavian couldn't help but smile when Marisol told him that she wouldn't be scared off by sister. He was glad, he didn't want her to go anywhere. Octavian moved closer to Marisol when ahe told him she wanted to be with him, the blush in her cheeks more than obvious. "I want to be with you," He smiled taking hold of her hand, which was difficult when her arms were folded. "So Marisol, will you be my girlfriend? My family be damned,"

Marisol smiled when Octavian said he wanted to be with her. She uncrossed her arms as she allowed him to take her hand and hoped he was about to ask her to be his girlfriend because she was getting so impatient she was about to tell him to just do it already. But she didn't have to demand it as he finally asked her himself. Marisol grinned brightly and leaned up to kiss him. "I thought you'd never ask," she said, though even if it was a cliche she really meant it in this case. "Yes I will!" she added unnecessarily, leaping up to put her arms around him and kissing him again.

Octavian tried not to laugh when Marisol said she thought he'd never ask. Of course he wanted to ask, but he couldn't exactly do it while she was still processing his engagement. He was glad to see she was so excited at the idea of being his girlfriend and a little surprised when she threw her arms around his and started kissing him. Octavian put his arms around her and kissed her back. "I'm glad, can we dance now and actually start enjoying this night?" He asked smiling at her.

Marisol knew that adjusting to the news of octavian's engagement was going to take a little more time for the both of them, and she was extremely curious about his fiancée, but for now she just wanted to sweep it all under the rug and enjoy herself. She really liked Octavian and now she could officially be his girlfriend because he wanted to be with her and not some dumb first year. Marisol kissed him once more for good measure and nodded her head in response to his question. "Yes please!" she said happily, leading him to the dance floor.

Octavian was glad to put the engagement behind them, at least for now. He knew it wouldn't be the last time it came up but for now he wanted to enjoy the night, Marisol was officially his girlfriend and he wanted to enjoy the feeling. He smiled and kissed her again before taking her hand and pulling her out onto the dance floor just at the upbeat music changed into something slow. It couldn't have been more perfect, Octavian pulled Marisol close to him and put his hands on her hips and moved along slowly with the music.
