Full Name: Peregrine Minerva Piper
Peregrine is a typically masculine name meaning 'traveler' or 'wanderer', while Minerva means 'intellect' or 'wisdom'. Befitting a young girl who has a healthy curiosity about history, magical creatures and the world around her, even if she does kind of resent having a "boy's name".
Nicknames: Peregrine has many nicknames - to her brother, she's Perry (sometimes Pen). To her mother, Rin or Rinnie (if not general terms of endearment, though usually it's the full name if her mother is mad), to her uncle she's Minnie. There's also Pez, Pezza, Rine, Pip, Penguin...
In general, she's okay with nicknames as long as they're well meaning. And even if she doesn't love them, often she's too polite to say otherwise.
Date of Birth: 28 February 2052
Peregrine is a Pisces, a sign commonly believed to be compassionate, adaptable and imaginative but can be oversensitive and a little escapist with their fantasies.
Current Age: 12
Basic Appearance: Shoulder length brown hair, average height, average build.
Probably the best term to describe Peregrine is 'average'. Doesn't tend to stick out, for better or for worse.
Personality: Peregrine often gets told she's a very responsible and mature young girl, specifically due to the fact that she had to grow up very fast and feels its important to be polite (not in the least because her younger brother can be a little full on). In saying that, she still has a lot of childlike enjoyment and wonder and has fascination for things like dragons and dinosaurs. She is careful to be accommodating to the point where she can come across as a bit of a doormat, however she can be a bit fiesty and snarky once one gets to know her.
Family: Her mother, Diana Thornton, is a former hit wizard for the UK Ministry of Magic, her father, Lionel Piper, was much older and worked there as well. Her father is not really in the picture anymore (for reasons Peregrine has kind of worked out), and after a job gone horribly wrong and some time at St Mungo's, Diana moved her two young children to New Zealand to be closer to her closest relative, her brother (and Peregrine's uncle) Gaius. Which also put them partially in the care of her mother's ex boyfriend, Serenoa Earnshaw (Noah to literally everyone) who had moved to be closer to his mother's family. Peregrine knows him as her 'uncle', she's well aware that he's not actually her uncle but the familial endearment stuck and so Uncle Noah he is. He's been more than happy to be seen as family by Peregrine and her brother.
Like her mother, Peregrine is close with her own younger brother, Percival (Percy, also to literally everyone), who is eccentric and excitable (whereas Gaius can be rather grim and sarcastic). She's gone through a fair bit of family drama for someone so young, but she learned at an early age to put on a brave face and look out for her relatives. She's the eldest, so she knows its up to her to look out for her little brother - as much as her Uncle Noah desperately reminds her she's still a kid and she doesn't have to be a parent figure.
Peregrine gets along fantastically with her Uncle Gaius. He made sure she writes extremely well with a quill and encourages her reading and writing - sometimes begrudgingly for some of the stuff she enjoys reading, however. Still, even he knows not to be extremely critical to a young girl.
Pets: Has bought a morepork to be a sort of shared pet for her and her brother. She was going to name it Quill but decided against it because of what quills are made from, so decided on Emperor instead.
The name is because she was reminded of her Uncle Gaius. Percy was annoyed he didn't get to name the owl but Peregrine was a little bullish in taking the naming rights because she gets to claim to be the real owner...even if it's shared. Regardless, Percy couldn't exactly argue. The bird did kind of look like their uncle.
Area of Residence: Currently New Zealand, fairly close to Obsidian Harbour.
Blood Status: Mixed blood (both her parents are wizards).
Special Abilities: n/a
Interests or Hobbies: Peregrine likes to read about magical creatures, specifically dragons (though she also likes hippogriffs and chimaeras) and the idea of historical magical creatures, such as potentially magical dinosaurs and minotaurs. She knows it's kind of a strange and unfeminine interest, but it's endlessly fascinating to her. She also likes reading, writing, playing wizard board and card games, flying (and watching Quidditch), and kind of playing pretend though she is a bit embarrassed about that one since she figures she has to be more grown up. As she gets older she's also into romance so it's only a matter of time before she writes embarrassing love poetry.
Additional Skills: She's very good at using a quill and learned how to mix her own ink with her uncle. She always has a pot of Peregrine's Purple on hand for special occasions (along with her standard black, blue and red).
Strengths: She's thoughtful, considerate, and isn't easily put off by things considered scary or intimidating. She gets really enthusiastic about things she loves (unless it's something she gets shamed for, see below) and tries to keep a healthy level of optimism. She's keen to learn about things like muggle life, but she's not the type to turn down any interesting information. Even if her writing is a bit amateurish (she is still a kid) she can be funny and tries her best to improve. She's got a big heart and is loyal to her friends and family, someone who can be relied upon to be in your corner when you need her.
Weaknesses: She's not very good at expressing how she feels if that feeling could be seen as something unacceptable - like if she's angry, or uncomfortable (except to her mum and her brother). She feels burdened by responsibility, particularly the responsibility to be mature and responsible, and will let her own feelings get stepped on to spare those of other people in a desire to avoid confrontation and make friends. It does mean she will bottle things up to an unhealthy degree...and considering her bad temper is one of her weaknesses...
Describe your character in three words: Considerate, imaginative, responsible.
Favourite place to be: tba
Friends: She's made a few - her dormmates Mania Athanasiou, Christa Langley & Calliope Cartwright, she gained an admiring friendship of Jasper Beese on her first night, and early into second year had a literal run in with Chase Edwards and found a kindred spirit.
Hogwarts House: Gryffindor
"Everyone belongs somewhere that's for sure. For you, the choice is tricky, you would manage just fine, just about anywhere...but, yes...I see where you would manage the best...Gryffindor!"
Hogwarts Hopes and Ambitions: She hopes to make friends and learn some interesting things, mostly wants to have a good time. Find out what she'd actually like to do with her life (narrow it down, specifically) Secretly hopes she doesn't have to be 'the responsible one' all the time.
Best school subjects: From her muggle schoolwork, English.
Worst school subjects: Same deal, Maths.
Extracurricular Activities: She's part of the Phoenix Scouts (her brother is a Niffler Scout) as her mother thought it would be good for them both to do something constructive that would burn energy. Unfortunately for Peregrine, when she's been in the same scout group as her brother she's often felt like she needs to keep an eye on him instead of do her own thing.
Plans for your future: Peregrine isn't entirely sure, although she'd rather like to go into magical paleontology. She's sure there's plenty of dragon bones and the like out there to discover. Or working in magical creature conservation, hopefully working with dragons and hippogriffs.
Patronus: Why, a peregrine falcon, of course.
More likely some sort of guard dog, like a German Shepherd. Loyal, dependable but ferocious.
Patronus memory: It'd probably be when Noah took her to a magical wildlife sanctuary in Australia as a belated 12th birthday present, even if he teased her about the boy who complimented her badges it was a really amazing day where she got to see one of her favourite dragons, got to learn about a sea serpent, and got to have a huge ice cream sundae that she didn't have to share with anyone because it was just a day for her. It made her think that that's what having a dad should be like, and it sticks out in her mind as a day where she got to feel special.
Boggart: It would be a group of small insects - cockroaches, beetles and the like - crawling towards her and starting to crawl up her legs. The idea of one getting on her fills her with a visceral feeling of panic, let alone a group.
Or so she thinks, what it will actually be is a hospital room door.
Mirror of Erised: She'd see herself riding a dragon, because who doesn't want that? Or better yet, as a princess riding a hippogriff or a unicorn. Or a fire breathing t-rex!
Or maybe it would actually be her with her actual dad, who she is almost certain is actually Noah, and her mum and brother as a real happy family.
