Wyatt felt a little dread come over him as he heard a few girls giggle as they said their dates were dreamy. He was now pretty much confirmed that it was less like Halloween and more like a romantic dance where people would be kissing and sharing germs and being disgusting. He just wanted to spend the night with his friends and eating food, just like he wanted to do every night. Some nice music wouldn't hurt either but he had the feeling it was going to be a lot of ballads so the boy was a little against the whole idea. Decked out in a simple grey suit he walked down from Gryffindor house to the Great Hall, passing by the older boys who were waiting for their dates or even being particularly open with their affection for them he shook his head, pitying them whilst also being disgusted by them. Upon entering the room, he looked up and was absolutely amazed at all the work that had been done to the room in such a short amount of time. It looked amazing with the snowflakes falling down onto everyone from the ceiling and the band, as they played a more upbeat song weren't too bad. He didn't know the song but he nodded along to it as he looked for a few of his friends or even a new friend would be good too.

Kayla paced back and forwards. She didn't know why she was bothering with this Yule Ball thing. She had really turned into herself lately, not speaking much and not attending any classes. It was most unlike her and she knew her mother would be worried about her. She had even stopped singing. Kayla hadn't stopped singing since.. well she couldn't ever remember not singing. She was just down in the dumps after that stupid boggart attack. In a way this was why she was even considering going this evening. She wanted to have fun, she wanted to get out of this stupid dorm room. She wanted to meet people and just dance the night away. She had no interest in boys or any of that ridiculous romance business. She wasn't in the mood and she saw no point, she was only eleven after all.

After dressing in what she hoped was a suitable outfit. Kayla took one more look at herself in the mirror before heading to the Great Hall. As she made her way downstairs, she was amazed at all the dresses the girls wore. Some were simply beautiful and Kayla could feel the nerves starting to build. She must look so childish and stupid beside them. She stopped for a moment, banishing those thoughts. She was only here for the music and hopefully she would meet some of her friends though she wasn't sure if she still had any after her long absence. Kayla had to stop when she entered the hall. The decorations were breathtaking. It was one of the most wonderful things she had seen in her life. She bit her lip, suddenly excited for the night ahead. The band was playing a moderately upbeat song. "I can work with that" She thought idly, heading towards the dance floor.

Kayla danced for the song, by herself. She didn't mind. For the first time, in a long time she was enjoying music and that made her happy. Suddenly the band picked up its pace and Kayla almost squealed. Without thinking she grabbed the person closest to her and started dancing. She didn't even care what age or house they were from, they just hoped they went with it.

hope it's ok I joined!

Unexpectedly Wyatt was pulled onto the dance floor by a girl he didn't recognize and because he was hardly a party pooper all he could do was dance, albeit a little stiffly. He wasn't much of a dancer as he was currently learning but he was still having fun and trying to copy the girls movements, enjoying the upbeat music. He took the girls hand to twirl her around and after he did so he gave her a quick very playful wink and twirled himself around on her arm in the same way he had done to her then dropped her hand to continue dancing. "I'm Wyatt," he said, loud enough so she could hear as an introduction because although she looked vaguely familiar most people seemed to at this school and so far the boy really only knew a few people closely and this girl was hardly it but he was enjoying himself with her dancing looking like a bit of an idiot while some of the older students looked at them with bemused smirks, as if they felt they were childish but they would be right. They were children, even if the girl was wearing really tall shoes that made him glad to be a boy because he was fairly certain they could never be comfortable.

She was glad the young boy went with her. It could have just ended very awkwardly and he may have even been angry and Kayla's mood would just be ruined. She was really starting to enjoy herself. She had kept away from music, almost as a form of punishment. This was the first time in a long while where she actually felt happy and she was just relieved she could still feel happy. She laughed when he spun her around. Yes, she had picked the right person to drag out and dance. At least more people were dancing now. You only needed one person to start it off. She grinned when he winked and spun himself. "Nice to meet you Wyatt and thank you for not hitting me when I dragged you out here." She smiled. He looked vaguely familiar but not even the name sparked real recognition. "I'm Kayla"She shouted still dancing, spinning around, throwing her arms out. She hadn't felt so carefree in so long, it was wonderful. She took Wyatt's hands in hers and they both spun before she broke off laughing. This was fun, this was what she had been missing here in Hogwarts. It was nice to feel like an eleven year old again.

Wyatt was finding that he was having a lot of fun with the girl, even if he was sure he looked absolutely ridiculous dancing with her like this but still that was no reason to not cut a rug. As she thanked him for not hitting her, he sarcastically replied, "I'm just biding my time. I don't want you to expect the hit when it's coming." He wasn't exactly an aggressive person, actually he was in no way aggressive as all he had ever wanted to do was heal the sick and maybe see some cool blood and guts too so the idea of actually hitting someone was laughable at best. "Cool," answered the American as she introduced herself and laughed with her as they spun, it seemed that they had gained a fair bit of attention now to which the first year just enjoyed himself anyway. At least that was until the song stopped and a much slower one had started. "You want to get a drink or something?" the boy asked Kayla, not really entertaining the idea of slow dancing. That was weird and gooey and not at all something he wanted to do. He hoped that she didn't mind and if she did, maybe he could find some other people to hang out with because Wyatt was all for being silly but dancing and being googly-eyed was not for him.

Kayla just gave him a look of scepticism but then laughed at his sarcasm. There is went again, her laugh. She hadn't laughed this much in a long time. It was nice to just dance even if she looked silly and she was dancing with someone she barely knew. That didn't matter to her. She was feeling carefree and she was also out of breath from dancing, it was wonderful. "I like how you think you could"She replied innocently. Kayla liked to think that her many hours of dancing had helped quicken her reflexes. If her reaction to the boggart was anything to go by this probably wasn't true but on a day to day basis she thought it was fairly accurate. She frowned when a much slower song started playing. They were just no good unless you had a romantic date and she certainly did not want to slow dance with Wyatt never mind anyone else. "Definitely"She agreed, thankful that he did not want to slow dance because she would have felt awkward saying no. Especially since he didn't say no when she pulled him out to dance. But he didn't seem keen either so she followed him over to the refreshment table. "You're in Gryffindor right?"She asked curiously as she looked at the table full of food. This statement wasn't far from a guess, she was almost sure she had seen him in the common room before. She wasn't sure of what year he was in but she was almost certain he was a lion.

Feeling only relief that Kayla wasn't going to try to pressure him into slow dancing with her he walked over to the refreshments, unsure of what he wanted because it all looked good and boy did he love to eat. "Yep, I guess you are too?" he asked as well although if she hadn't asked that he probably would've been sure of it anyway because only a brave person goes up to a full blown stranger to dance. At least that's what he thought but what did he know? He was hardly a dancer. "Are you a first year too?" Wyatt asked, turning towards Kayla as he offered her an empty plate so she could pick from the food she seemed to be enthralled with just as he was. The feasts at Hogwarts were bountiful and more often than they really be as far as the boy could tell from how much he was eating. He wasn't complaining too much though because it was always good although he wished there was more hot sauce on everything as there should be. Well everything but the sweets that he was currently eyeing.

One thing Kayla loved about Hogwarts was the amazing variety of strange, new and delicious looking food. The feasts never ceased to amaze her. How the house elves in the kitchen managed to make so much she would love to know. She would have visited by now only she still disliked venturing down to the dungeons. She was terrified she'd find that stupid chest. But tonight wasn't the night to think about that. She just had to enjoy it, dance the night away. "That I am"She answered, nodding her head in thanks for the plate. She than began picking at the food on the table, filling her plate to the brim. "Yeah, a firstie" She replied beginning to stuff her mouth with food. It wasn't exactly ladylike but she somehow got the impression that Wyatt didn't really care. She didn't want to ruin her make-up or dress however. They had been expensive and the make-up had taken a long time. She wasn't tha unmannerly that she was going to get food all over her. "Did you grow up with magic or not?"She asked curiously. She didn't mean it to be an intrusive question, she was just curious.

Wyatt smiled as the confirmed both of his suspicions but just like the girl he was picking away at food to add to the mountain that was currently on his plate. He started to eat, not really noticing that maybe it wasn't the most polite way of doing this but he was a growing boy and could eat pretty much non-stop if he wanted to. As she asked if he grew up without magic he answered, "Without." He shrugged his shoulders, deciding not to go into the whole mess with the Finches with this girl because he was just a bit more preoccupied at the moment. "It was a big surprise," the boy said with a chuckle, thinking of how shocked he'd been when he got the letter from Hogwarts and the talk he had to have with his family. "What about you?" He didn't really see how it would matter much to grow up with magic except you knew which Quidditch team to follow because you couldn't do any spells until you were eleven anyway so it didn't bother him any.
