Maddie found the Gryffindor Common Room stifling these days, especially since the encounter with James at the Yule Ball, so she decided to search for somewhere else to spend her time. She found herself in the student lounge that seemed to have half the school in it that afternoon. She fought her way to an empty armchair in the corner of the room where she could easily be undisturbed, everyone else looked busy anyway which was just fine for the Gryffindor girl. She propped her feet up on the table in front of her and watched the people around her come and go. There was two girls in front of her who looked like best friends and they were hunched over something and giggling. Maddie felt her heart sink as she remembered when Charlotte and herself had once been like that, however, now, Charlotte spent most of her time with James which meant that Maddie hadn't spoken to her properly for months. She sighed and leaned her head back on the arm chair as she tried to clear her mind.

Cairo was never a fan of reading in the student lounge as the place was usually full of students chatting and generally causing a ruckus. It would distract him from the words on the page and make him more frustrated than he ever needed nor wanted to be, but that day he was craving a change of pace and ventured the student lounge anyway. He had begun to grow stir crazy in the common room from overhearing petty gossip, and at least wanted to be distracted by noise that was easier for him to attempt to drown out. He navigated his way through the room when he spotted an empty arm chair but was stopped in his tracks when someone else took the seat. He would have been annoyed and also would have retreated back to the common room despite the reason he left in the first place, but he immediately recognized the girl as Madeline Walden and instead wanted to strike up a conversation with her. She was one of Charlotte's close friends, if not the closest friend the other Slytherin had so he at least thought he should try to chat to her. "Hey, Madeline." He said. "How are you?" He was well aware of how awkward this could turn out to be but he at least wanted to get along with the girl for he sake of their mutual friend.

Maddie slowly opened her eyes and was surprised to see Cairo Savage addressing her. The Slytherin boy was actually talking to her. The two had never really spoken before, Maddie knew he was quite good friends with Charlotte but he had always seemed quite anti social and sullen to Maddie but he must be nice enough for Charlotte to be close friends with him. "Hi Cairo" she replied "I'm alright... I guess" she added. "Do you want to sit?" she said pointing to the chair next to her. She didn't know if Cairo wanted to be on his own or if Rome was close by, and if that was the case she didn't want to get into a conversation with his twin as she was temperamental at the best of times.
