Even though he’d told Theodore he had a date in mind, Teddy had never actually gotten around to asking anyone to the Yule Ball. It just didn’t seem that important, and honestly, he would have only done it to save face if he ran into the sixth year. But last he heard, Theodore was going with a seventh year, so the chances of that happening were slim. Anyway Teddy preferred the freedom of going alone and letting the night unfold naturally. He'd had a lot of fun at Yule Balls in the past and not once had he taken an official date.
After the headmasters welcome, he completed a loop to check out the decorations and events on like ice skating. Then he wandered over to the Christmas tree and crouched beside the pile of gifts beneath it. He gave a couple of them a curious shake to figure out what was inside and claim the best one for himself. He settled on a thin rectangular box which he thought was something edible.
