Catherine "Cat Kale had been a precocious child, and had grown to be a somewhat pretentious teen. Today, as the sun shone, she walked on tiptoe along the low walls of the courtyard, her bare feel feeling pleasant on the cool stone. She'd coloured and cut her hair over the holidays, with her grandmother's help, though her parents hadn't particularly approved. The blue pleased her, true, her long dark locks had been pretty and picturesque. She'd been quite proud of them, but the blue and the shorter cut felt much older. She was almost an adult now. In a year she would be an adult, and soon she would be finished school. She hatred this dull, dull place. She'd tolerated it for the last few years, gotten on with it, but couldn't wait for her sentence to be finished. Today, she wore her uniform, but not as intended. Her skirt was hemmed up higher than was probably acceptable, and her tie was tied into a bow tie at her throat, as a choker, totally separate from her blouse which was open, with a sleeveless tank top peeking out, its bright pink colouring totally at odds with the Hufflepuff colours.

Her shoes lay beside her books and pencil case, both of which sat on the opposite wall of the courtyard. She'd been practicing arithmancy. It was the only subject she liked. Now, she was busy observing the effect of the sun on her skin. Cat didn't tan, she was as pale as a ghost, but the shimmering on her skin was transfixing. Her mind wasn't on anything in particular, all she could focus on was the colours on her arms, and the structure of the wall beneath her feet as she completed round after round of the courtyard, oblivious to other people in the space.
