Wherever Stella went, misery seemed to follow. Today, that came in the shape of bullies and thieves. The young Hufflepuff had been mistaken to assume that she was safe from their prowl down by the lake. An hour later, the trio of students had hounded her, relieved her of both her sickles and her dignity, and then strolled away, still laughing at their easy success. It was true. Stella was an easy target. She was exceptionally well trained in karate, but had learned the hard way that defending herself from bullies landed her in more trouble than it was worth. It was so unfair. Even when she tried to stand up for herself, she still seemed to get the blame.

Considering that she no longer had coins in her pockets to weigh her down, Stella was surprisingly tired that evening. She kept her sandy head low as she weaved through the crowd, heading nowhere in particular as long as it was away from trouble. Half way down the fourth floor corridor she stopped. The library. Why hadn't she thought of that before? If there was one thing bullies had in common, it was a lack of intelligence. What were the chances of bumping into them reading books? With a quick glance over her shoulder, she pushed open the library door and headed straight for the back of the room. She sat down in a cosy little corner, lit by enchanted candles and flickering lamps. There were two doors to her right, only one of which she knew what led to - and that was only because it was clearly labelled 'Restricted Section'. The other she chose to ignore, for her curiosity always seemed to lead her into even more trouble. Tired, humiliated, and defeated, Stella pulled her legs up into her chair, buried her face between her knees, and began to cry.
