Veronica sat on the window sill in the tallest of towers of Dumstrang admiring the forest and the grounds. The snow was melting since it was summer here but they had only six hours of sighting the sun. She had been discovering that one of her talents lay in drawing and now she was practicing that more often. Some how Dympna had discovered this and had bought her some of the finest drawing materials and although she hated her mother, Veronica was thankful for this gift.

The picture that she was drawing was over and it had turned out to be beautiful.Maybe I would gift it to Zac, she wondered thinking if Zac would like it or not. She hadn't seen him from two days because she had a bad flu and was in the hospital wing. The nurse had said he had come to visit but she had been asleep. She couldn't wait to see him but she didn't know where he was and she had wandered to the towers and had started sketching. Her life had become like a vaccum. Everything had been sucked out in the past year and now she had no friends except for her new boyfriend.

Kenny walked up the stairs to the tower. He needed to remember to write a letter to his parents. They weren't his biggest fans at the moment seeing as they thought he was being stupid and childish saying he was gay but he needed the money. Josh had said the two of them could move into a house together and Kenny couldn't wait. All he needed was the money to buy a place.
Kenny got to the top of the stairs and saw a girl by the window. She looked like she was drawing something. Kenny walked over to her and realised he didn't recognise her. She looked younger than him, maybe fifth year. "Hi.That looks good. Do you draw a lot??" Kenny didn't have many friends as most of the people in the school just took the mik out of him but he was at least going to try and get a few friends before he left the school.

Veronica was lost in her own world as she admired her drawing and thought of Zac. She heard faint sound of footsteps that gradually got louder. She waited sitting on the window sill to see who had thought of coming here. She watched the elder boy compliment her work and ask if she drew often. "Thank you" she said bending her feet and hugging them to her chest so as to give some space to the boy to sit on the window. That is if he wanted to. "No, I started drawing recently and haven't drawn much"

She recognized the boy as a seventh year and remembered having seen him in the corridor a few times with his friend. "What are you doing up here?"she asked wondering if the boy had same intentions as her or some other secretive things to do up here. And if it was the second she would be curious to know what they were.

Kenny's eyebrows raised when the girl said she had only started recently. Kenny wasn't an expert at art but he knew it took some talent to do art as amazing as that when someone hadn't been doing it for very long. "Wow. You must be like some sort of artist protegie (sp). That's the only explanation I can think of for someone being that great at art." Kenny may have been gay but he was still a ladies man. He knew how to flirt and when he was in the right mood he would happily compliment a girl even if they didn't deserve it-which this girl did.
Kenny sat down on the window sill next to her and gave her a charming smile. He shrugged slightly at her question. "I'm just on a walk. I needed a bit of time to think and I thought this would be the best place. Hardly anyone comes up here because they think it's too far to walk but I love it. What about you?? I mean, except for drawing of course." He laughed slightly and looked out over the grounds.

"Maybe I inherited art since I have seen my father's few art pieces and they were great" she told him remembering the days when she was a child, almost ten years back when her father was not a drunkard and was alive. Art had been his passion back then but she had never seen those peaceful days again after he had started alcohol. Coming back from the past she smiled at the boy as she realized that his compliments were slowly leading to flirting.

She nodded when he said he needed some time to himself. "I had been doing lessons all day packed in Potion. This is always my favorite place of some peace and fresh air" she told him. She realized that they hadn't introduced themselves yet. "I am Veronica and you are?"she asked him. She had caught that part when he said he wanted some time to think and was curious about what it was that he wanted to think about. "You have love issues?"she asked trying to guess his problem and wondering if he would talk about it. "You could tell me" she said with a smile.

Kenny nodded in understanf#ding when she said she must have inherited her talents. He was just glad that he didn't inherite the snobby behaviour his parents had. He had spent most of his life being disappointed in the behaviour of his parents but they gave him what he wanted when he wanted so they were useful. Most of the time, Kenny felt like he was using them for there money and that was it.
Kenny smiled at her when she said her name. "That's a beautiful name. Mine's Kenny." Kenny hated his name. Josh always took the mik out of his full name-Kenneth Zacharias Hickman-Vallender. He shrugged when she asked whether he had love issues. "You could say that. In a way it is. My parents don't really want to accept the fact that I'm gay. They're both way too snobby and think that having a gay son is a disappointment so their making excuses saying I'm too young to know what Im talking about and that sort of stuff." Kenny was glad to have someone to talk to about it. The only person he could talk to was Josh and seeing as Josh was his boyfriend, it wasn't much use talking to him.

"Thanks" she said smiling when he said that she had a beautiful name. Many people didn't like their names but it wasn't that way for Veronica. Kenny, she said in her head wondering if that was his nickname. Veronica heard Kenny explain to her about his gay situation and how it disappointed his parents. She took a minute to take in that Kenny was gay. Well it was little disappointing because he was very good looking and many girls would have wanted to be with him. She blushed at her own thought.

"It must be hard for you not being supported by your parents" she said seriousness in her voice. Veronica has experienced so much of weird, dark, drunk and carelessness from her parents that she didn't find this much surprising. "Well you are an adult and you are at liberty of being in relationship with whoever you like. Maybe when you introduce them to your boyfriend they would see the seriousness"she said to him giving him an encouraging smile.

Kenny saw the slightly disappointed look on Veronica's face. He was used to it. He was pretty good looking after all. Most girls were disappointed about the fact that they didn't have a chance with him. Although, he had never had a girlfriend. He had never found a girl he liked enough. When he met Josh, that had all changed.
Kenny shrugged at what Veronica said next. "I'm used to it. They're both very proud and only want the best. They've only really been there for me when I need money. The rest of the time they're just people I live with." He shook his head and sighed. "They've already met Josh. They think I'm paying him to pretend to be my boyfriend to try and persuade them that I'm gay." He shrugged. "I'm used to it. They've never believed me with something they think is disappointing."

Veronica heard Ken talk about his parents. "Maybe some more time is required to let the truth sink into their lives" she said with a hopeful smile. Veronica thought it was better to be an orphan than to have parents who didn't care about you. "Do you live with them?" she asked him. Maybe if he could threaten his parents that he would leave the house or something they would believe. But well that was a very cruel option and Veronica wouldn't suggest it because she didn't want to break the family.

Kenny grinned. "I do, for now." He was happy of the decision he had made with Josh. "I'm buying a house with my boyfriend and we're moving out of our parents' houses." He couldn't wait to move out and live with someone he actually cared about and not because they had lots of money. After all, that was the only reason he cared much about his parents. It wasn't like they did much else for him.

Veronica smiled on hearing that Ken was soon going to move in with his boyfriend. "Must meet him" she said with a wink. "So what are your hobbies?"she asked wondering what Kenneth liked to do for fun. "My new one as you discovered is painting and I even love swimming and reading novels" she told him with a smile.

Kenny shrugged slightly. "Not much really. I do some skateboarding and I'm good on a games console but other than that I'm lazy." He laughed slightly. "I spend most of my time messing around with Josh or doing school work so I don't really have much hobby time. Suites me fine. It means I don't have to use my brain outside of school." He grinned as he made a dumb joke.

Veronica laughed at Ken's joke. Veronica had personal experience from her childhood friend who didn't have any hobbies except for doing her school work and her chores. She looked out at the sky where the stars were shining in the night sky. "When's your birthday? And what's your zodiac sign?" she asked him. In the Rila mountains whenever it was someone's birthday they usually put eggs on them after the party and Veronica had been planning from a while to record birthday of all her friends and plan them a egg shower for their birthday!

Kenny laughed slightly. "February 14th" He grinned at the thought of it. He always found it funny that he was born on valentine's day but he had only had one proper relationship in his life. "It's aquarius. I don't pay much attention to the zodiac signs though. I would never be able to name them all. Four is probably my tops." Kenny usually got to know people by talking to them rather than working out which zodiac sign they had.

Veronica laughed upon hearing Ken's birth date. She grinned as she asked "How does 'lover boy' sound for your nickname?" Kenneth was a funny guy and a good person and she was glad that she was getting to know him. "Although Virgo is more compatible with Tarus and Capricorn, I think you'll pass" she said with a wink. Veronica had been friends with the 'Witch Lady', as she called herself in the Rila mountains. She faked people's future and claimed to be a real witch and her astrology was the only good thing so Veronica knew a little about her Zodiac sign.

"What about your favorite subjects and yeah...what do you want to become once you graduate?"she asked him.Veronica had no idea what she would become after graduating so she kept asking people so she would know what career option she had. "I like Dark Arts and Potions but well...I don't know if there's a job that requires the combination of them" she said thoughtfully. When her father was alive he kept bothering her to think about her career but she never bothered herself and now when he was gone she was thinking about it.

Kenny laughed at his new nickname. "Sounds cool to me." He grinned. Kenny didn't know anything about the zodiac signs but Veronica seemed to be pretty understanding of them. He was going to have to look them up a bit. At least it would give him something to do while he got bored out of his skull.
Kenny thought about his lessons and which he was doing best in. "I like potions and herbology. I'm not great at lessons where i have to use a wand." Kenny had never been a great wandsman but lessons were easy when he could just read a book or water some flowers. Even potions were just like cooking a meal. "I don't know what I want to be when I'm older. I haven't planned that far ahead. I probably should seeing as I'm leaving this year." Kenny had never been great at planning things out but now was worse than ever.

Veronica smiled when Kenny grinned and then heard him speak about liking Potions and Herbology since they didn't require much wand use. Many people didn't know what they wanted to be after school and although most of the parents kept badgering children to think about career options, Veronica thought that it was best that you gave yourself some time until the right thing comes to you instead of just going with whatever your parents think was best for you. Then again, that thought might just be her view since she had no good loving feeling towards her parents.

"Even my parents weren't so great and loving like those of most people" she told him with a slight sigh."My mom left me when I was born and then I was raised by a father and his second wife. She died when I was five, my father went into drinking and six months back he died and my mother comes out from somewhere and takes me to her house in New Zealand..." she said recounting the events to Ken. "But I guess that's life. We just have to move on and everything becomes okay after a while" Veronica added with a smile.

Kenny felt sorry for Veronica. She had been through quite a bit. "I'm sorry to hear that. Were you close to your dad??" Kenny had never been great with comforting people. Tell him to flirt and he'll be away in seconds with a girl on each arm. Tell him to comfort someone and it was way above his area of expertise.

"I've never been amazingly close to my parents but then they don't pay much attention to me unless I'm making them." Kenny was used to the way things went. They spoilt him because they were always too busy with other things like work and arrangements etc.

Veronica chuckled when he said asked if she was close to her dad. "No, he wouldn't let me be since he was never in his senses" she told Kenny. It was amaizing how some children were so close to their parents and confided everything in them while some children were exactly the opposite. Veronica fell into the second kind because even with knowing her mother she wasn't trusting her because the woman had abandoned her when she was small and Veronica was almost sure that she had other plans for being nice to her and everything.

"You're not alone" she said with a smile. Veronica was wondering if Kenny had friends at Dumstrang other than his boyfriend because if that was the case then she wouldn't have expected him to share his story with her since she was a stranger. If it would have been her she wouldn't have but she had only told her story to him since he had trusted her so she had to trust him back. "Do you have many friends here?"she asked him curiously. "Like from Qudditch team or clubs or whatever it is that you do" she asked with a grin.

Kenny shrugged. "I can never see how people can be so close to their parents. It's weird. It's not like they do anything other than pay for us to live." He always saw people his own age who thought the world of their parents and he was starting to hate his. Why couldn't they just accept him for who he was and get over it??

Kenny grinned when he thought of his friends. "I used to have a small group of friends here. They've all left the school now though. Jake graduated, Ryker and Mark transferred to Hogwarts New Zealand and Markov moved to Salem with his family. It's just me now." Kenny was finding it hard being away from his friends but he was coping.

Veronica nodded agreeing to Kenneth's thinking about parents just paying for their kids. Veronica was right. Like many people all of Kenny's friends had gone. It was hard even for Veronica to adjust here in Dumstrang since she had missed school for three months last year and all of her friends had just drifted away. But she was putting in great effort to have new ones and it was working just fine. Kenny was a great example of that hard work.

"You have me now" she said with a big grin as she gave him a hug. That may have seemed childish but who said she was grown up. She could be a child, a teenager or an adult as per her mood and wish and for now she was hugging him with a smile."Too bad you're having a boyfriend" she joked.

Kenny laughed when Veronica said he had her. When she hugged him, he hugged her back. She was definitely going to be a great friend to have. He laughed again at her next comment. "Believe me, you're not the first to say that." He grinned cockily to her and ruffled up his hair slightly. "You got many friends??" Kenny wanted to meet her friends then he would be able to get to know her a bit more and have more friends of his own. He guessed Veronica had quite a few friends though. She seemed to be the kind of person who would be able to make friends easily.

Veronica laughed when Kenneth mentioned that she wasn't the first one to say that. When he asked her if she had many friends she took a second to think. "Not many but you can say a few" she told him with a smile. "Many are studying in other schools so I can't meet them on daily basis but I do see them during holidays and stuff" she explained. "In Dumstrang it's Nicky Rowan, my boyfriend, Zac, Enzo, Josh and you" she said with a grin. "People are starting to notice that I have more guy friends compared to girls so I am working on that" she admitted with a laugh.

Kenny grinned. "You're friends with Josh??" This was the first Kenny had heard of it. "Most of my friends are studying in other schools. It seems to be a thing at the moment for everyone to split up and move away." He shrugged and slid his jacket off. It wasn't too hot up here but it was the tallest tower and that meant a lot of stairs which meant exercise. "I think it's good to have both. That way, you get the best out of both."

"Well, just got to know him a few days back" she said with a smile watching Ken grin after knowing she knew his boyfriend. She smiled as Kenny said it was good to have both guy and girl friends. "I know but I seem to be attracting or being attracted towards making guy friends and.. well I have already have hurt my boyfriend once and I don't it to happen again" she said with a sigh. Things hadn't gotten any better between her and Zac and a whole week had passed since they last spoke.
