Nathaniel was born the youngest child and only son to Mirielle and Jon Hughes in the late 20th century. He was their heir and was held to the greatest expectations.
Mirielle, a former Ravenclaw, had started teaching everything she could to her son so he would be fit to inherit the family name and what money they had. Jon, on the other hand, was much more lenient with Nathaniel and wanted him to experience things for himself rather than read about them in a textbook.
Once Nathaniel was 11 and therefore old enough to start attending Hogwarts England, he was sorted into Ravenclaw, a feat that prided his mother to no end. He had a rather uneventful seven years, save for a few detentions for his sarcasm problem and a few boyfriend problems here and there.
The summer of his third year in Hogwarts, his aunt and uncle had a little girl, Isadora. His aunt had married a muggle by the name Hayes Fitzroy, an arrogant, somewhat sarcastic man who Nathaniel had no tolerance for what so ever. When Nathaniel turned sixteen, his uncle was arrested for drug trafficing and his aunt filed for a divorce, eventually changing hers and Izzy's last name back to Hughes.
Nathaniel graduated Hogwarts without a hitch, not top of his class but not far from it either. He wandered about, unsure of which career he would rather pursue. Eventually, his family's money became scarce and his father fell ill and was unable to work. He moved to New Zealand to start over as he had developed a sort of apathy toward his parents who had grown apart from him during his time at Hogwarts. There, he got a job with the ministry on the Invisibility Task Force. Not the first thing on his list but it was a job none the less.
Before Nathaniel had turned twenty-four his aunt sent him an owl, asking that he take his cousin in for a while and send her to school there as they had run into some financial problems. He agreed, albeit reluctantly, he knew how spoiled the girl could be but missed her anyway.
