Jonah thought it was quite silly that they had to ride the train to go home when their dad was literally in the school. Couldn't they have just portkeyed from Brightstone? Apparently not. So Jonah would have to ride the train with his siblings and his cousins. It had started to get quite cramped in the compartment, so he decided to sneak out - not that it had been very sneaky since everyone turned their heads the moment he'd opened the door, but no one stopped him so he took it for the win it was. Looking for a more vacant compartment was difficult though, as he'd had to walk and peek at several compartments before he came upon one that looked empty. He was wrong though, because somehow he'd missed the girl sitting alone in the compartment until he'd entered without even knocking. He'd been about to apologize and leave when he recognized who it was and he had to take a moment to look around the compartment and down both the corridors of the train before frowning and then hesitantly, "Esme?"

The last few days of school had made Esme really glad the year was over and they were heading home for the holidays. She needed a long break away from everything and everyone, the blonde had even briefly considered not going back at all, perhaps she would discuss it with her mother when she got home. Though the thought of losing easy access to her dad didn’t sit right with her, she’d only just got him after all.

Mercifully, Esme had managed to get a train compartment to herself and that remained the case even as the train filled up and began to set off on its journey. She was soon joined however by a familiar face, she knew Jonah was good friends with her cousin William and he was somewhat on the edges of some of the drama that had engulfed their year group. But otherwise, she had been criminally neglectful of him and her other classmates. She had spent all of her time either with Tori or Felix. And for what? “Hmm? Jonah?”

Jonah looked around the empty compartment and frowned, wondering why Esme would be sitting alone on the train ride back. Like him, she had a lot of siblings. And unlike him, she had quite a lot of friends. He'd at least expected that she would be sitting with Tori or Felix since those two were the ones primarily by Esme's side throughout the school year. "Are you alright?" he asked frowning. "Why are you sitting here alone?" That didn't seem right. To leave Esme alone in the compartment which was why he stayed a little longer - or at least for as long as she wasn't kicking him out. It was the least he could do for her. Or at least if she even wanted it. "Do you want company?" It was probably polite to ask. This wasn't exactly what he had in mind when he'd stepped out of the compartment he shared with his siblings, but he supposed it was alright.
