Astrological Powers that Be:

Astrological symbol:
Scorpion.
It is representative for people born between October 23 and November 21 when the Sun is in Scorpio. This symbol denotes stubbornness, passion and mystery.

The Scorpio Constellation is located between Libra to the West and Sagittarius to the East and has Antares as the brightest star. It is spread on an area of 497 sq degrees and its visible latitudes are +40° to -90°.

In Greece it is named Scorpion while the Spanish call it Escorpion. However, the Latin origin of the Scorpion, the October 23 zodiac sign is Scorpio.

Opposite sign: Taurus.
This suggests determination and mystery and shows that cooperation between the Taurus and Scorpio sun signs is thought to be beneficial for both sides.

Modality: Fixed.
The quality reveals the proud nature of those born on October 23 and their sincerity and wits regarding most life events.

Ruling house: The eighth house.
This is a space focused on what others own and on the permanent desire of having what others have. This is also a house which governs over the unknown and over the ultimate transformation of death.

Ruling body: Pluto.
This celestial planet is said to influence acceptance and illumination. It is also to be mentioned about the authority of these natives. Pluto is the spiritual discerning between truth and lies.

Element: Water.
This element is representative for the enigmatic and full of depth nature of people born on October 23. Often they are also warm and affectionate and they seem to let things go with the flow just like their determining element.

Lucky day: Tuesday.
Under the governing of Mars, this day symbolizes preoccupation and affection. It is suggestive for the Scorpio natives who are determined.

Lucky numbers: 8, 9, 12, 19, 27.

People born on October 23 are sensual and attractive beings but also very calculated and self conscious. While they might appear as naturally friendly, they are actually very socially aware and critical. They feel most at ease when they are in charge of things that are connected to them and avoid having to deal with mediocre people. They can turn completely cold when betrayed but otherwise those close to them can benefit from their support and learn from their emotional intelligence that is above average.

Positive traits: Witty and great with words and body language, these natives have entangled personalities that unravel in time. Scorpio people are curious and they want to know everything that happens but in the same time they are very private when it comes to their own enterprises. Those born under this sign are also poised and faithful. Once someone wins their true dignity consideration they are sure to act very dignified and be a great company.

Negative traits:
Manipulative beings, they often resort to hidden means in order to obtain their objectives and they are often enduring in getting what they want, no matter the price and no matter who has to suffer along the way. They are clingy, jealous and possessive with their romantic interests but they are also very moody and things can transformation in a second. They are spiteful with those who turn their backs on them, even when they are the ones at fault.

Attractive and charming it is very difficult for someone to win their heart if they don't show the slightest interest. They don't settle for less than what they consider it's best for them. And they are a pretentious lover that is sometimes prone to controlling behavior and jealousy fits. Freedom lover, they have an immense love for change and adventure and they will experience many love relationships in their life, that they will consider important. If they settle for one person, they will probably be hard to understand and they will still be governed by selfishness. They are most compatible with those born on 1st, 2nd, 8th, 10th, 11th, 19th, 20th, 28th and 29th.

October 23 Zodiac people are most attached to the other two water signs: Cancer and Pisces as they tend to share the same vision of life. In love, Scorpio is in a constant search for stability and protection and the best to offer them this is the native in Taurus. The least compatible with people born on October 23 are those born under Libra. As for the rest of compatibilities between the other star signs and Scorpio, you know what they say, stars predispose but people dispose.

Representative birthstone
Topaz is the birthstone of preference for Scorpio natives, especially those born under the October 23.

Topaz is a precious material that denotes strength and constancy. This zodiac birthstone could be used in accessories and bracelets. This gemstone releases positive and balancing vibes towards emotions and also protects against negative thought. Another gemstone considered beneficial for Scorpio natives is Garnet. It represents constancy and balance.

Characteristic flower
The lucky flower for those born under the October 23 is represented by Chrysanthemum.
Chrysanthemum is one of those plants that denote warmth and relaxation. This zodiac flower should be used in decorations and other accessories.

This is a flower thought to clear negative energies from around it so it can be used as a lucky charm or joyous decoration This flower can be enjoyed during midsummer to late fall.
Other flowers for Scorpio people are Poppies and Lavender.

Symbolic metal
Iron is the metal defined for October 23 and in general for Scorpio natives.
Iron symbolizes aggression and action. This zodiac metal should be used in bracelets and other accessories.

This strong metal suggests the force of fiery Scorpio who is easily stimulated just like Iron can be magnetized. Left in moist air, Iron rusts which suggests that it should be handled with care exactly like the Scorpio native. Another metal considered beneficial for Scorpio natives is Zinc.

Vidar

Vidar (pronounced “VEE-dar”; from Old Norse Víðarr, which might mean “The Wide-Ruling One”) is one of the younger generation of gods who survive Ragnarok, the cataclysmic end of the Norse mythological cycle. Virtually all of the references to him in Old Norse literature are concerned with his role in Ragnarok; we know little to nothing of his personality or function outside of that one particular episode.

During Ragnarok, the gods – the divine forces who uphold the cosmic order – and the giants – the divine forces of chaos and destruction – battled, and most of those involved on both sides were slain. The god Odin was devoured by the wolf Fenrir. Vidar, a son of Odin by the giantess Gríðr, immediately set upon the wolf to avenge his father’s death. He wore a shoe that had been crafted for this particular moment. It was the strongest and sturdiest of all shoes, and surely also charged with magical properties. With it, Vidar kicked open the wolf’s lower jaw, and then, holding the beast’s upper jaw open, he sliced Fenrir’s mouth to pieces with his sword, killing the monster and ending his devastating rampage.

Elsewhere, Vidar is called the “silent god,” although no explanation for this epithet is given. He is said to be the strongest of the gods after Thor. His land is described as a place of brushwood and tall grass, but the significance of the association of this particular kind of landscape and this god is unknown.

Celtic Animal Sign: BUTTERFLY
September 30 - October 27
This Celtic animal sign always stays in contact with loved ones (they're the ones always with a quill writing). They can't help it. Butterflies are gentle souls who can't be tied down for very long. They love to dream, express new ideas and talk about high- falutin plans. They would never intentionally harm anyone. Butterflies bring a sense of wonder and youth to the world.

Personality Type:
INTJ
Introvert(81%) iNtuitive(25%) Thinking(66%) Judging(34%)
You have strong preference of Introversion over Extraversion (81%)
You have moderate preference of Intuition over Sensing (25%)
You have distinct preference of Thinking over Feeling (66%)
You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (34%)

INTJ
Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging
To outsiders, INTJs may appear to project an aura of "definiteness", of self-confidence. This self-confidence, sometimes mistaken for simple arrogance by the less decisive, is actually of a very specific rather than a general nature; its source lies in the specialized knowledge systems that most INTJs start building at an early age. When it comes to their own areas of expertise -- and INTJs can have several -- they will be able to tell you almost immediately whether or not they can help you, and if so, how. INTJs know what they know, and perhaps still more importantly, they know what they don't know.

INTJs are perfectionists, with a seemingly endless capacity for improving upon anything that takes their interest. What prevents them from becoming chronically bogged down in this pursuit of perfection is the pragmatism so characteristic of the type: INTJs apply (often ruthlessly) the criterion "Does it work?" to everything from their own research efforts to the prevailing social norms. This in turn produces an unusual independence of mind, freeing the INTJ from the constraints of authority, convention, or sentiment for its own sake.

Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be the INTJ's Achilles heel. While they are capable of caring deeply for others (usually a select few), and are willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship, the knowledge and self-confidence that make them so successful in other areas can suddenly abandon or mislead them in interpersonal situations. This happens in part because many INTJs do not readily grasp the social rituals; for instance, they tend to have little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation (which most types consider half the fun of a relationship).

To complicate matters, INTJs are usually extremely private people, and can often be naturally impassive as well, which makes them easy to misread and misunderstand.

Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that INTJs really want people to make sense.

This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete', paralleling that of many Fs -- only instead of expecting inexhaustible affection and empathy from a romantic relationship, the INTJ will expect inexhaustible reasonability and directness.

Personality:

Minerva has always been a socially awkward child. She loves her family dearly but has always preferred the company of older adults like her grandparents or the company of animals to children her own age. She is clever but comes across as aloof and abrupt-- she does not feel comfortable with trying to make friends. It's an exhausting effort that fills her with anxiety. Being naturally introverted Minerva would welcome perhaps a very small select few friends but no more than that.

She likes order and rules and takes things very literally, so that her family have learned to phrase things in a particular way for her. She loves smooth jazz music and anything with the piano. She likes to sing but not publicly, it’s for her own enjoyment only. Minerva loves to read and can usually be found with her head buried inside a book.

It has taken her some time to learn about sarcasm and sometimes this still goes over her head completely. Jokes are also not her forte, she often will ask after telling a joke why someone found it funny and tends to take notes afterwards in order to better tell the same joke later. She doesn’t have the greatest sense of humour but she does try to understand why people see the funny side in things.

Minerva likes to dance and has great rhythm but she prefers dancing when no one can see her. She is always eager to learn new things and absorbs information like a sponge. She likes to watch butterflies and is fascinated by all insects and animals. She adores horses, unicorns and griffins. She loves the colour black and she loves raindrops trickling down a window.

She is a champion of the underdog and cannot bare to see any injustice done to anyone or anything. She does not lie, not even to save herself from a punishment. Her parents did bring her to St. Mungos to see if there was any potion or spell that could assist her and with the help of the healers there, she has been able to take a draught that alleviates much but not all of her anxieties. It will however assist her in her worst moments.

PET
Bombay Cat:
Name: ODIN

They are a strong healthy breed that has a medium sized frame with a round head which can appear slightly too large for their body. The Cat has a little snub nose and large ears which are rounded at the tip. Everything about the cat must be black in colour, so the fur has to be completely jet black all over, the nose must also be black in colour. They are noted for purring a great deal.

Breed Characteristics

Coat: The breed has a short, black, very close lying coat that has a sleek and shiny appearance. There should be no flecks of any other colour in the fur.

Eyes: The cat has large eyes that are either gold or yellow to green in the UK and gold to copper in the USA.

Grooming: The Bombay cat breed has a coat which will need a little extra grooming to ensure that the fur retains that sleek glossy look. However as it is a short coat this is not hard work.

Breed Characteristics:
This cat breed has a very similar temperament to the Burmese breed and has a sedate and affectionate nature. It does enjoy lots of attention and so is ideal for a home where someone is around a lot and who is prepared to spend time with the cat.

FAMILY

KHULIK
Of all the Anglo-Saxon names to come from Britain, Khulik is one of the most ancient. The name is a result of the original family having lived in Kilnwick in the East Riding of Yorkshire. They are now found in Humberside, a new county formed after the reorganization of local government in England in 1974. The place-name is based on the Old English personal name Cylla and means 'Farm of a man named Cylla'. Kilnwick was recorded as Chileuuit in the Domesday Book in 1086 and as Killingwic in the 12th century. The surname Kulick was first found in Yorkshire in Kilnwick, a village and parish in the Yorkshire wolds. Many provincial dialects dropped the final N of Kiln and the W in the termination.

When the Gregory and Nathanial Kulick were born in the 1890, one was magical and the other was a muggle. Nathanial was sent away to an orphanage and his family told everyone that he had died in a tragic accident when visiting distant relations. He was adopted as luck would have it by a squib Thomas Wickens who adopted him mainly to help around his farm. When Nathaniel was old enough he attended magic school, retuning to the farm only on summer holidays. Once old enough he changed his name from Nathaniel Kulick to Nathan Khulik and left the shores of England to seek a better life elsewhere.

Though many were still going to America to seek their fortune, Nathan went to the other end of the world, as far away from his past life as he could possibly go. He arrived in New Zealand in the summer of 1908. There he would eventually buy some land and build himself his own farm, marry and have children of his own. The Khulik family grew steadily and quietly, spreading from New Zealand to other parts of the world.

BENNETT

The Bennett surname is dervied from the Latin given name Benedictus, which means 'blessed'. It became a common given name throughout Europe due to the popularity of St. Benedict. The surname was first found in north Lancashire where a Benedictine monastery known as Furness Abeey was by founded by the Savigny monks of Normandy in 1127. Many Bennetts thrived in England and parts of Europe but it was not until the 17th century that branches of the family began to spread out, venturing to America. It was not until 1823 that 13 year old James Bennett was sentenced for life to Tasmania from London. The ship never made it and due to storms at sea was set on course instead for New Zealand. Many died on the ship but James Bennett survived. He lived in abject poverty for a long time before getting a job helping in the lighthouse in Tauranga. He eventually took over the running of the lighthouse in his 40's and settled down with a Cornish woman of the name Mary Pennow. They worked the lighthouse together and soon had a family.

Henry and Thomas Bennett were the first magical children of that lineage, their parents were supportive and for generations the Bennetts grew up and ran the lighthouse and a nearby sheep farm. Thomas's son Frederick married a maori woman - they had twins both of which were also magical. From that day to the early 20th century, the Bennett line direct from the father has produced only children with magical blood.
When Henry Bennett and his wife, Stella Ward had three girls, neither were magical and for the next several generations no magic born came to be. Not until the birth of Agaranez in 1997 to Dedalus Bennett and Lorgana Riki.

Hi Linda! I have a couple of questions for you to help you develop Minerva. :lovi:

1) What is life like at home with Minerva's family? What does or doesn't she like about having siblings and whatnot?
2) How does Minerva feel about the wand that chose her? Does she feel like her wand chose the wrong person? Will she have trouble is specifc subjects because of the wand, and will those conflict with the subjects she likes?
3) How will Minerva find structure and order at Hogwarts?

I do apologize for the many questions. Feel free to answer IC or OOC. :)

Hi Lovi,

thanks so much for asking questions, these really will help as I totally didn't even think of them myself.
Will answer them in increments if that's alright.

^_^
1) What is life like at home with Minerva's family? What does or doesn't she like about having siblings and whatnot?

Life at home is hard. There is no other word for it. Morning starts early from roughly about 4am, when her parents rise to begin preparing for the day on their farm. Being the oldest a lot of responsibility has fallen on Minerva's shoulders over the years but she really doesn't mind it. In fact, she welcomes most challenges but changing nappies (diapers) has been one thing that she is glad never to have to do again. Her siblings are at those strange ages where boys want to get into everything and adventure can be found under any stone.

She loves them dearly but they make so much noise for only two boys. Her sister Ritchel is a bit like Minerva's twin though far younger. She has the same colour eyes and the same colour hair and follows Minerva around like a shadow. She shares her room with Ritchel since her sister was two years old. This is the only thing that she dislikes about the whole sibling thing. Minerva is a very private person and likes peace and quiet and the chance to read her books when all the chores of the day have been done. That has become extremely difficult to do with Ritchel constantly behaving like a leach. So even though she is nervous and anxious about attending Hogwarts, she is also looking forward to having space again to herself.

2) How does Minerva feel about the wand that chose her? Does she feel like her wand chose the wrong person? Will she have trouble is specifc subjects because of the wand, and will those conflict with the subjects she likes?

(I love this question so am going to try to channel the muse of Minerva herself to try to answer it.)

When the wand chose me it was a strange feeling, I knew nothing about cores or wood types, lengths or styles and yet this was a wand that I was to use for the rest of my existence. This had chosen me, me and not anyone else. I tried to picture other people holding the wand and it rejecting them as if it knew that I was coming, it just had to wait. It had to be patient. I don't know how long my wand was waiting for me, if it had been made last year, or ten years ago or twenty maybe even longer but it was mine from the moment it was created and that's such a strange thought to wrap my head around.

Afterward I wanted to know as much as I could about every piece that made up my wand. The shopkeeper had said it was knotted and 10 1/2 inches, but even though every wand-lore book I read indicated that there was nothing significant about that length, that if anything it was an average length - I couldn't help but feel they were wrong. There is nothing average about any wand. It's like all the people in the world that are the same height as me, and yet none of us are average really. We're all unique, all different in our own ways.

My wand is supposed to be earthy and close to nature which I do like the thought of, it means that spells I cast for herbology and care of magical creatures and even potions will be good and well done. Of course I will have to practice a lot with my wand. The shopkeeper also said that it was unyielding which means that it needs skill and determination to master it. I'm not entirely sure I want to master it though ... I want my wand and I to have a symbiotic relationship, that the magic flows between us evenly. I'm not sure how that would work though.

The wood is cedar, I didn't know anything really about cedar wood until I read about my wand wood. It says that the wielder of such a wand must have great strength of character and has perception of other peoples motives. Perhaps ... I think my wand has a vision of the person I should be or will be, I mean ... my wand has waited for me so that it can finally choose me. I don't think I am perceptive and I don't think I have great strength of character at all yet but ... I like to think that this is who I will be; that with the help of my wand that this is the person that I will grow and aspire to be.

The core is phoenix tail feathers which is perfect because the books on wand-lore say that the caster seeks to be good with different types of magic and that is true of me. I don't want to just settle on one subject and make that my soul purpose at Hogwarts - I want to be good at all my subjects. Every single one.

To look at - my wand might not seem much and there were others in the store that felt nice in my hand and even looked good when I held them up but ... I'm not much to look at either but I know what I am capable of and I know that I have a long way to go to become as good as I want to be. Appearances are deceptive - my wand chose me and I am proud that it did. Together we will work hard at getting good grades in every subject.

3) How will Minerva find structure and order at Hogwarts?

A very good question but this I don't even know myself. It will be something that both Minerva the character and I her writer will have to find out for ourselves as she progresses through the different years at Hogwarts. She is determined and has a very strong focus, so I'm sure she will find the structure she needs. I can't imagine Hogwarts to be a brimful of chaos though it probably appears that way to some students, she will find the order that she needs and if she doesn't - she'll create it.
