Andromeda enjoyed this part of the day, just after lunch and a while to go before dinner. She walked up to the North tower and went right to the very top where the open turrets bared itself to the dismal day.
The clouds were heavy and grey again today, but she didn't mind. For the first time in her life she had girly things to think about. There was a fancy dress coming up and she hadn't a clue what to dress up as, she had been told there was a Yule Ball as well which meant having to bring a partner and getting dressed up in evening gowns. She sighed, every girl she knew here was so beautiful or had the makings to be. She walked over to one of the turrets and hoisted herself up.
She sat down on the inner edge, looking out over the miles of beautiful countryside and landscape. It really was beautiful here and nearly as green as back home.
She held her hands out infront of her and sighed, she looked at the freckles on her hands and felt even more miserable.
Her red hair wasn't even a beautiful shade the way Jolly's was, it seemed dull and lifeless. Her face was pale except for the million freckles that covered it and camouflaged her. her eyes... the strangest shade of amber in the world. She knew when she was excited or nervous and more especially when she was angry they seemed to look as if they were burning like two flaming orbs inside an already strange physiognomy.
She leant back against the parapet and watched the wind tossing the leaves and swaying the trees. Today she didn't even feel like flying, she must be hormonal she thought.

It was turning out to be the best day of Jolly's life. She hadn't tripped or fallen even once the whole day. She was so happy that even the grey and cloudy day couldn't lower her spirits. She slowly climbed up the North Tower. She had never been there and decided she'd finally get to explore it. But when she reached the top, she was surprised to find Andy already up there. She was staring down at the miles of beautiful scenery that lay ahead.

"Hey, Andy, whatcha doing here?" she asked carefully, walking over to stand beside her friend.

Andy turned and smiled and Jolly as she approached.
"Just gathering wool", Andy said quietly, "How about you, you up to anything?"

Andy swivelled her body about and jumped down from the parapet, she slunk her body down the wall to sit on the hard cold surface of the North Tower.

Jolly smiled at Andy and as she walked, there was a slight skip to her step. "Nah, am wandering aimlessly. Fortunately, my homework is complete, but I am bored that's why I decided to come here," she told Andy, jumping over to side beside her friend. "So, what are you doing here, anyway?" Jolly asked. Andy seemed slightly quiet and odd. "Is something bothering you?"

Andy looked at Jo, she seemed so confident and perky... so girly.
"Are you getting all dressed up in a costume for halloween?" she asked her thoughtfully, "I haven't a glimmer what to wear". she looked down at her nails which surprisingly enough had started to grow nicely.

Andy looked troubled and different today. Not like her usual happy self but Jolly decided not to say anything yet. She waited for Andy to speak. "Are you getting all dressed up in a costume for halloween?" Jolly sighed and looked down below to the ground, gazing absently at it. "Just like you, I don't know what to wear. I don't even have a good enough costume," she told Andy, her tone slightly sad. But she smiled at Andy. "Is that's what bothering you?" Jolly asked her, flicking her red hair behind her shoulder casually. It was completely messy today and refused to settle down.

"Well yes and no. Ok, there's the Yule Ball coming up as well. So will need to dress up for that in a fancy frock and stuff. But unless I grow a few inches by then I don't think I'll get into much", she looked at Jolly and shrugged her shoulders.
"I've been such a tom-boy all my life I never kind of cared about the girly stuff, you know. But now... and then there's the whole what if no boy asks me or wants to dance with me at it?" Andy bit her lip and paled at the thought of being a wallflower.

Jolly bit her lip and looked at the horizon. She had the same fears as Andy had but then, Andy was very different than she was. "Don't worry, Andy, you won't be a wallflower. Many boys like you. There's Blane, there's Brian. Besides, I fear more for myself rather than you. You are pretty and taller than me," she joked. Her shortness always irritated her. Jolly was shorter than most people in her year. "Do you know anyone you want to go to the Yule Ball with?" Jolly asked Andy curiously.

"Blane and I are just friends now and Brian and I are best friends" she sighed, her hands began to wring themselves gently.
She looked at Jolly and thought can I or can't I?
Hesitant she waited before saying, "I do like someone. I shouldn't, I mean myself and Blane only split but ... well, this is just infatuation. That's all" she tried to sound very grown up about the strange feelings that welled up inside her. Being a young girl not yet even considered anything more than a child was hard to deal with. She had matured so much in such a short time and yet she still looked like a kid. Freckled and stringy, she mused.
"I think it's more a hero worship thing than anything really. Totally impossible of course. He's alot older than me", she bit her lip and looked at her shoes.

[ooc; sneaked out of the kitchen just to reply. this thread strangely attracts me   ]

Jolly considered Andy for a while, thinking about what she had said just now. Biting her lip and suppressing a chuckle, she asked, "Is it Bruin?" It was kinda an obvious guess but if it was not Bruin, then Jolly had no idea who it could be that had captured young Andy's attention. "If it's Bruin...I would say," she began, paused, thought for a while, then shook her head and continued thickly, "I don't know what to say." Doesn't Bruin already have a girlfriend? wondered Jolly.

Violet was wandering around aimlessly. She didn't feel like going outside, but she had nothing better to do. She hated climbing stairs, but she thought it would be good exercise. Plus, she hadn't looked at the towers.
Climbing the North Tower, she walked right in to Jo and Andy. She blushed.
"Oh, hey! Can I join you? Or would you rather I didn't?"

Just as Jolly had asked Andy her question, there was an interruption in the form of Violet. Jolly bit her lip, slightly disappointed. Would Andy answer her truthfully if front of Violet? The spell was broken. During that brief moment, Jolly had felt really close to Andy...and it was a nice feeling to have a good friend. Finally, Jolly arranged a huge grin on her face and turned around to greet Violet. "Violet!" she exclaimed happily. "Of course, of course, you can join us. Come on over!"

Andy looked at Jolly and blushed even deeper when she mentioned their captains name. She knew she didn't like him in a girlfriend type of way, it really was a - all out to impress my hero type of thing. She admired him and respected him. He was sweet and kind and truly liked the big brother she never had. Her fondness for him meant she was and would be overly protective as she was about her uncle. She thought about the name Bruin had given them, his cubs! Well this cub had claws, she thought - she had actually been embaressed when the older girls had wanted to put nail varnish on him.
But to the Yule Ball? highly unlikely, Andy wasn't the type of girl boys asked to those things and Bruin was old enough to be... well, he was old enough. And a hundred and one other girls really liked him.
She was about to say something when she was quite literally saved by the bell... Bellamy to be exact.
"Hi Vi, of course you can join us", she smiled patting the hard ground beside her.
"What have you been up to then?"

Violet felt quite embarassed at having interrupted their discussion, but she was there now, so she might as well stay, she reasoned with herself. She smiled and sat down next to Andy, feeling that she had joined them at a really inopportune moment. "Hey, guys. I haven't been up to much. What about you?" she asked, sweetly.

"Brooding on the finer points in life!" Andy smiled, "actually discussing what to wear for upcoming events such as halloween and the Yule Ball!"
Andy started to feel alot better having the two girls here now to chat to, her own company was just so dull sometimes.

"Halloween? What?" she said in mock horror. Then she grinned. "Just kidding. As for the Yule Ball...gosh, I don't think I'm even going. No partner and all..." she muttered. "Decided on, erm, costumes?" she asked.

Violet twiddled her thumbs, looking a little awkward. "I'm not one for social events. Not good with crowds..." she said, looking away. "One of my sordid secrets," she said, with a tense laugh.

((violet's RL self is struggling for the formal in october! =P))

Jolly chuckled at Violet. "I hate crowds but I am not terrified or anything," she said conversationally. "But I just hate making a fool of myself, which happens like every five minutes," she gave a bitter laugh. "I guess I won't go, too. Can't think of a good enough costume."

Andy looked at both the girls and shook her head.
"Would you just look at the three of us what sad cases are we? I mean look at us, we are clever and not the worst looking apples in the barrel" she laughed, "I'm sure between the three of us we can come up with some type of costume".

Violet giggled. "Well, we could be all Macbeth-esque," she cleared her throat. "Double, double, toil and trouble, fire burn and cauldron bubble..." she croaked, acting as an old hag. She coughed, and laughed again. "I don't know how my throat could take that!"

Jolly grinned at Andy and giggled when Violet began to sing a double trouble song. "You know what, you are right. I'll go the ball and enjoy myself and definitely not care about what people think!" she said determinedly, sticking her nose proudly in the air. Then, as if something her interrupted her brilliant show, she looked down and said, "But not Macbeth please. I think I'll be a fairy or an elf-lady or something..." She stroked her chin dubiously.

Violet giggled. "I could see you as a fairy. Both of you, actually. Don't know what I'd do, though. I'm not the fairy type..." She snorted. Violet was too big to be a fairy or elf. Far too tall, and not very graceful at all.

"I don't know about elf I think I'm more the mischievous pixie type really. So might do something around the cute lines. I'm always dressed like a witch of something wierd. Last year it was a pumpkin" she told them, she shook her head remembering, "it was fun to make it with my mom but good grief, i was so humiliated wearing it. Ok so fairy for Jo, Pixie for me and ....hmmm what about you Vi?"
Andy put her hand up to her face as if she was in deep contemplation.

"I guess you'll have to wait and see what I come up with!" Violet said, with a wink. "A pumpkin, hey? Interesting!" She laughed. "I've never celebrated Halloween before."
