Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy here in New Zealand was treating Benjamin quite fine. The first week that he resided there was absolutely puzzling with him trying to memorize all the hallways and all the rooms to go too. He did not explore the whole castle yet nor did he intend too. The Slytherin just wanted peace for quite a while and so far, he hasn't met any friends for himself yet. Hopefully it would be someone his age and better yet, his fellow housemate. He was not that eager to explore the grounds anymore for that day. For the whole day, he's been roaming around, memorizing all the bits and pieces of the castle. The only place he actually knew to locate is the Slytherin common room. He even passed two students arguing with one another. It was quite a scene, but he did not bother to stand by and watch. It was just a complete waste of time for the first year. Benjamin ascended the staircase leading towards the North Tower where he can just enjoy the view. It was already 4:00 pm in the afternoon and he surely wanted to spend his time in peace. Upon stepping on the last step, he breathed in the fresh air. He walked to a window and saw the enormous grounds of Hogwarts New Zealand. He stood there, calmly, and took another deep breath. Ben knew that he was the only one there to enjoy its tranquility. Yet, a small part of him told him that it would be better with company.

The young lad remained at the window, looking and trying to memorize every single inch of the magnificent grounds just before his eyes. He spotted the Gryffindor Tower and wrinkled his nose in disgust. Benjamin had a small issue with that house. They were the rival house that he belonged in and he knew they mostly won. Because of their "bravery", other people said that Gryffindor was absolutely the best house to stay in. "Not really", Ben muttered only for himself to hear. Slytherin was also a nice house to stay in. The dungeons were actually calm and peaceful especially in the dormitories wherein they have a complete view of the lake with just looking at their windows. The young boy remained there and banished his thoughts about it. He did not want to think of house rivalry right now. It made his brain go dead, because of the mental arguments with himself. The charming Slytherin just stood there, occasionally moving his head back and forth, observing the grounds in the most sly way and silent way that anyone could ever do.

Jade had been meandering around the North Tower most of the day, fascinated by it's immensity and the Owlery. It was quite beautiful, watching the owls go back and forth, delivering packages and messages to people all over the world. She could only image what those letters said, well wishes from home, perhaps a seventh year receiving a possible job opportunity. All she knew is that she was fascinated by the little tiny pieces of paper that lay in each owl's claws. Looking up at the sun, she noticed it was already getting low in the sky. I better get going back to the dormitories, she thought sadly, making a mental note to return to this place. She started walking back to Gryffindor Tower, and she stared up at it, thinking of all the improbable things that would happen in there and probably would happen in there. As she stared at the tower, she didn't notice a fellow first year like herself, decked in the green of Slytherin, walking back and forth in front of her. She collided with him and fell backwards, her eyes wide. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to! I just wasn't paying attention to where I was going and..." she cut herself short and stared at the boy, hoping that she would just be able to quietly slip up to her dormitory.

The boy was getting bored at the moment while he was up there at the North Tower. It was absolutely silent and no one but him spoke a word. There were winds that he felt on his face, but he simply ignored it. After all, these did not help him improve his day. Benjamin wanted to head to the Quidditch Pitch where he can actually feel the wind and maybe borrow a broom. When he received his welcome letter that said they have accepted him into Hogwarts, he was depressed since the first years weren't allowed to bring and have a broom in their possession. This is why his father rejected and did not support him when he wanted to purchase a broom. The boy scowled and just remained calm about it, knowing that for his second year, his father will buy him one. He detached himself from the window and tore his gaze away from the grounds below him. Seriously, it was beginning to bore him extremely.

With no idea at all with what he plans to do later in the evening and in the following days, Benjamin paced back and forth. His head was bent low with a prim line set on his lips. He looked just like his father, whenever Mr. Chase was looking at their finances in their vault. Ben's sea green eyes were focused on the ground while his hands were behind his back. His legs just dragged him back and forth the small corridor on the top most part of the tower. Then suddenly, a huge impact hit him and Benjamin stumbled back. "Ow." Ben exclaimed and ignored the girl's excuse. It was a good thing that Benjamin was in a good mood today or else this girl might just make a new enemy just because she collided and made a painful impact on Ben's shoulder. The Slytherin rubbed it, not knowing he was actually doing it. He waited for the reply of the girl while rubbing his shoulder and squeezing in occasionally, just to test if ever it still functions properly. The Slytherin ran a hand threw his hair while squinting to see the person who just hit him. It was a girl and he knew how to respect girls at a young age of eleven. He raised an eyebrow while looking at the girl, surveying her.

Jade was finding it increasingly difficult to tear her gaze from the boy in front of her. She had gotten up from the ground finally, but her eyes never left the boy. All he had said was "Ow", giving her absolutely no way to respond and no reason to stop looking at him. He had dark brown hair with a cute face, but she could feel the arrogance radiating off of him. She finally managed to pull her eyes away after a minute and respond with," I'm sorry, I didn't see you. It was an accident." Now that she had regained her composure, she noticed that he was rubbing his shoulder and making it seem like it hurt badly. Her need to get away was buried underneath the fact that she thought he was overexaggerating, and on purpose. "Oh stop whining and rubbing your shoulder like that. I didn't hit you THAT hard. Man up!" She said with a tinge of annoyance. When she realized what she had said, and to someone as cute as him, she reddened and bowed her head down, hiding from his gaze.

Benjamin's shoulder was not extremely painful but it had a small pain. He rubbed it hardly, making sure that everything was still okay. The Slytherin boy heard the girl's words and ignored it. His face was twisted into a scowl. He did not like the tingling feeling on his shoulder. The boy was just obviously exaggerating, making him look like the pathetic one. To be honest, it was terribly true that the impact made his shoulder feel slight pain, but that was mainly it. Benjamin Chase liked playing around with people, especially with the helpers they have at the Chase household. He loved it when he tried to fool them and make them go mad easily. Benjamin smiled playfully at the girl when she apologized to him for the second time. He was used to doing this. All the time, he mentally thought and recalled the memories with their helpers he has already and quickly fooled. They were narrow minded. But perhaps this girl is not. "I think I know that." He said while surveying the damage. If there was any damage.

The boy gradually stopped when the girl whined about his little small act. Benjamin checked it for the last time and pressed it softly, trying to see if the impact created any bruise on his precious skin. He looked back at the person and realized she was actually a girl. He apologetically smiled again while ruffling his hair once more. He was not exactly flirting, it was just his way to get over this minor mess that the girl has done. He quickly composed himself and abandoned the arrogance that he could have used on the girl. After all, his father has reminded him that women are to be respected. "Man up? Where'd you get that expression?" He mused, his eyes twinkling with amusement. He faced the girl with a playful grin on his features with his hair already messy, because of the ruffling he has done to do so.

Jade glared at the boy as he rubbed his shoulder again. It was completely unnecessary to her. She had hit him and she was just fine. She crossed her arms in front of her, annoyed with the boy. He might be cute, but he was completely ridiculous. "Good thing you know that too," she said, flipping her hair back. What is wrong with me? she thought. She never acted like this, but the boy seemed to bring out the rudeness in her. She took another deep breath and returned herself to normal, relaxing her arms back down to her sides. When the boy brought up her little rant, she reddened slightly but was quickly rid of it. "I learned it after I ran into a bunch of guys who were acting like girls. Like you," she said with a wiry grin. Jade found she liked the little banter between them. It was different than her usual conversations of hi's and how are you's. She looked up at him and realized she really liked his smile; it was cute with his ruffled up hair. But he's still annoying, not letting herself think this boy could actually be worth liking. After all he was a Slytherin.

The girl's glare did not bother Benjamin at all. He never actually liked attention, but toying around with the girl seemed amusing and fun for him. He acted silly just to know the reaction of the girl that will come. He watched her with his green eyes twinkling with amusement when she crossed her arms just in front of her chest. Benjamin always did this when he was bored, that is toying with other people that seemed worthy to talk too. He felt a rush of wind suddenly and breathed in the air. The boy never liked warmth. He always refused to step outside whenever the day was warm. Today, the day was actually breezy and cool. The amount of warmness was just little, resulting him to roam around the castle, learning more about its surroundings. "Relax woman. Of course I would know. At least that what I would think." Benjamin snapped. He did not mean to disrespect the girl in front of him. His father would tell him that woman are to be respected. He mentally thought about it. Meaning woman should mean a lady. This is just a girl. He knew that the girl was not a Slytherin. He hasn't seen her in the Dungeons. To be more precise, the Slytherin common room. He wondered what house took this girl. Benjamin's best guess was Ravenclaw. The girl had a sharp tongue and most Ravenclaws had the brain to think of such words to say. Especially those expressions...

Benjamin immediately frowned. He did not like the idea of himself appearing to act like a girl. The idea did not leave his mind, not until he realized it was just a sarcastic comment. Benjamin stared at her, as if she was the weirdest thing in the whole universe that he ever encountered. He cocked his head to the side with a frown on his face, mentally judging her over her appearance and manner. Benjamin could say that she was quite an annoying one, but someone to toy around with. "Hey, I don't act like a girl." He said, then his frown increased more. He was just analyzing her. He wrinkled his nose at the thought about juvenile and immature girls. Benjamin just waited for her reply with a frown on his lips.

Jade laughed at the boy. He was getting increasingly annoyed with her and it amused her greatly. For some reason, bugging this boy seemed all too fun at the moment, and she enjoyed every minute of it. Standing next to a window, she felt the rush of wind and shivered slightly, wrapping her arms around her body. The boy snapped at her and she laughed. "Sure, you keep telling yourself that." Antagonizing the boy brought her great joy. Maybe she would have to talk to guys more often if all of them acted like this. She had a feeling not all of them were like the boy in front of her, but you never know.

A huge smile spread across Jade's face when the boy frowned at her. She had actually gotten to him a bit, and it made her proud of herself. The boy had his head tilted and she put her hands on either side of his face and straightened it. "You are going to hurt your head by doing that," she said in her baby voice. She hoped that it caused another reaction; they all seemed to be funny. "Uh, yes you do. Saying you don't act like a girl just makes you look like a girl even more. And that plaid shirt? Really? Girly much?" An evil grin spread across her face.

The girl's laughter increased Benjamin's temper with her. There was only one obvious thing that Benjamin knew about this girl; She wanted to make fun of him. His thinking and conscience told him that he was correct, so he decided to give her his arrogant side. His face twisted into a look of business as if he was bartering with someone very important. The expression that he contained just looked like his father when his father was doing something that needed no disturbance. He stepped forward for his face only to be a foot away from the girl then he flashed her his killer smirk. "And maybe you should try to keep in mind that every person would have knew that as soon as you bumped into them." Benjamin stepped backward, his smirk devilish. With only looking at his expression, he was already daring the girl to try him into an argument. He was just so in the mood right now to try his sharp tongue on the girl in front of him. Pity that there weren't any bystanders watching Benjamin win his game. The sun did not provide strong heat which made his mood improve more. Only the breeze was their to refresh him which was a great winning factor for the pureblood.

The touch of the girl made Benjamin look at her weird enough. He hoped that she knew that she was the weirdest person on earth that he has met. The girl was just probably playing with him or teasing him, not knowing that Ben could show her his arrogant side. When his head was straightened, he whipped out his wand that radiated power when he first encountered touching it. His thoughts immediately went back to the time when he purchased his wand and met Eden Koshiba, the moderator but not the owner of the shop. Memories of when a serpent erupted from it. Not the real kind, but sort of the magical wherein it is just created out of air and the shape formed by various colors. All these memories went to him with just only looking at his wand. But that did not stop him from remembering what he will do. The weird look vanished and was replaced with a serious look on his face which made him a bit more mature than the girl's. In just two steps, he casually stepped forward to the girl with a small smile slash smirk playing along his lips. "While you're going to look extremely childish when you keep on doing that." Benjamin said while pointing the wand from her throat. The wand was about five inches away from the skin but it still was powerful.

Benjamin continued to play along with her game. He was never going to give up, until he won this thing all alone by himself. The words of the girl made him even more careless about what his style would be for the following days. He thought that the world of fashion was nothing compared to what the world of the dark arts were. Fashion was useless and only a part of his life since he needed clothing to cover his body all day long. "My style does not concern you. I know a lot of people who are inclined with that fashion world of yours but has an absolutely absurd attitude." He contested, imitating the girl's evil grin. His wand was already not on her throat but beside him, waiting if ever they'll start a duel fight or something else that will get them in trouble. His sentence was obvious that he was actually referring to the person in front of him, but he did not know if the girl sensed his that-is-totally-you feeling.

The boy seemed to change rapidly with Jade's laughter. He gained an arrogant feel to him that she despised. When he got dangerously close to her, she narrowed her eyes and said threateningly, "Back off. Now. Or there will be consequences to pay." With his own comment he backed off, though the Gryffindor suspected it was more of his own accord than because of her statement. She felt her control of the conversation slipping away, and she was determined to take it back.

The other first year pulled out his wand and gave her a strange look. Jade suspected it was because of her moving his head back, not being able to think of any other reasonable explanation. The wand seemed a bit much to the typically shy girl though. Suddenly the look was replaced with a strange smirk, and he stepped back into her personal bubble, pointing his wand at her throat. Crap, this was not a situation Jade wanted to be in. She slid her newly bought wand from the small sheath she had made that wrapped around her arm and put the tip very lightly on his stomach. "At least I'm not acting childish," she said, managing to keep the slight fear that had risen to her throat out of her voice.

"Funny enough, the fashion world holds no concern for me. But of course, fashion doesn't dictate someones attitude. Example A; you, with all those bright colors that simply hide a dark and dreary personality." Jade knew she was taking a risk antagonizing the boy any further, but the rush of adrenaline running through her was unlike anything that she had experienced before. Now if it only ended well, today would be a good day. The boy moved his wand away from her throat, but the red-headed girl didn't move hers from his stomach. "Now if you'd kindly get rid of that stupid front of yours maybe we could have decent conversation."

Benjamin now fully turned on his arrogance. He did not want to lose his fight, especially an argument with a girl. A girl, for Merlin's sake, that is just his age and perhaps is just a Half Blood or a Muggle Born. It is also possible that she contains the so-called Mixed Blood. The purest blood of the magical folk tried to remain calm in him and did not fail too. Benjamin's facial expression was just serious but nothing more than that. His thin lips were set into a line that indicated seriousness and arrogance that ran in his family. "What kind, if I may ask. Would you actually tell this to your head of house? Maybe might as well make your Head fight your own battles than you yourself doing it." Benjamin Chase raised a thin eyebrow at the girl, trying to question and dare her to actually agree with what he was thinking. Would she really do that? Tell him to her HoH? If so, Benjamin would retreat back to his shell, in such a way that he made it as if a simple act of innocence. He decided not to hold back his words, therefore another good looking smirk appeared on his lips.

You are, st00pid, the Slytherin thought with his previous smirk removed and replaced with a sheet of blankness. Benjamin focused on what he could do with her accompanied by a wand that was currently in his own possession. He faced her and stared at her, analyzing the computations that he has made, including the consequences and all the other details. So far, none of those ideas made him satisfied. He did not remove his own wand from her throat, only to be resulted by getting the girl point her own wand in front of Benjamin's stomach. Benjamin looked at the wand and lowered his down. The boy remained himself calm by just ignoring the idea to actually stun her to send her flying away to the other side of the tower. "You are, my dear," Benjamin stated with a devilish smile as if he were going to plot something bad. "Seriously, you are." If she just heard what he said, Benjamin was actually referring to her. Not just any person but her. Her alone and no one else.

"Dark? How come you suspect me as a person that is quite inclined with the dark things?" Benjamin asked with another smirk on his face. Again, he was using his own looks and charm to devour the girl into his own simple trap. He was not flirting since the boy did not know how to seduce a woman. It was actually a fact that his parents were quite connected with those things but they were not death eaters. Being a Death Eater was simply a big responsibility. They could just not handle all the posters that the Ministry puts up just to catch them. Benjamin glanced at the wand that was pointed at his stomach lowered it down using his own. He lowered it until it was completely not pointing at his stomach. "Done with the formalities, eh?" the boy winked jokingly. "Fine then, Benjamin Chase." Benjamin held out his right hand with his wand on the other. He wondered whether this girl was a Muggle Born. A muggle was just loathed by his mother. Gladly, his mother wasn't here to actually lecture him on who to touch.

The boy now was acting completely horrible. Jade could feel him trying way too hard to be rude. It was quite annoying to the Gryffindor, and with him threatening her like this, it was almost worrying. Thinking back to the stereotypes she had heard before, she would guess he was a pureblood with all of the arrogance he was giving off. Jade tried not to be judgmental, but it was difficult when someone was threatening you with a powerful wand. At his next remark, she clenched her fists and clasped her jaw together, trying with all her might to not punch him. After a few moments the young girl calmed herself down and relaxed. "It involves my fists connecting with your face. I fight my own battles," she replied. Never in a million years would she have told her head of house. Jade wouldn't dare put that kind of attention on herself.

The boy began to stare at her, and no matter how hard the first year tried, she couldn't help but feel the tiniest bit uncomfortable with his eyes on her. Jade could tell he was analyzing something, possibly her reactions, maybe he was just trying to make her feel uncomfortable. Well it's working, she thought with dissatisfaction. He was talking again, making more annoying sounds in Jade's eyes. He had a smile on his face that reminded her of her best friend that had nearly killed her. The memory froze her for a second. The Gryffindor could perfectly picture the one girl she had trusted with all of her heart smiling down on her, a razor blade in her hand, that same exact smile. Jade snapped herself out of it and brought herself back to the present situation. She imagined punching the Slytherin and breaking his nose and smiled at the thought. "Sorry, I ain't. Acting childish would imply that I was making threats for no good reason. Or defending myself unnecessarily, neither of which I am doing," she shot back, hoping he got the implied fact it was him, not her, that was acting stupid.

"Because only someone who is dark threatens a lady instead of being a gentleman," she replied. A smirk crossed the boy's face. If he hadn't been acting like a complete jerk this entire time he would've looked adorable right now, but Jade knew to look past that and see the person himself. Even then she thought she wasn't getting the real picture. The boy pushed her wand down away from him and she pushed it back into its sheath. Finally Jade could put a name to the boy. Benjamin Chase. "Thank you. I'm Jade Whittle." She took his hand and shook it properly. "Now can you put your wand back please? Mine's gone, yours has got to go too." She asked, trying to be nice again.

Benjamin sighed. For once, he agreed with the girl. He should have been acting like a gentleman ever since the start of their fiery conversation. Benjamin sucked in a deep breath and muttered something enough for the girl not to hear. The boy's thoughts quickly went back to the times his father lectured him about treating people with respect despite the fact that he was a Pure Blood. 'Females were to be respected, and that is that.' Currently, he was actually arguing the girl and giving of threats. Exposing the fact that he could sometimes be an arrogant boy. He quickly retreated back to his kinder self and smiled at her. He showed her his most playful yet dazzling smile that he could make. The boy wanted to say sorry, but he also knows that his father told him that it is wrong to beg. 'Only state your words then leave it to the other party'. "Fine then. You just bumped me then irritated me." Benjamin eyed the girl, searching in the depths of her eyes if ever she was already mad at him. It seemed that the girl was triumphant and contained a killer smirk that Benjamin could imitate perfectly. He then smirked when he sort of understood her agreement to introduce themselves to one another. He hid a look of puzzlement when he heard the phrase, thank you. He just absolutely had no idea why the girl thanked him. The boy stepped back just to keep distance from the girl whether she will hex him or not. Benjamin slid his wand into the pocket of his pants. He put it just one the left pocket where he can actually get it immediately whenever he needed it. The left-handed boy spoke loudly once more.

"There." The air was filled with awkwardness that he truly disliked, thus he quickly thought of a possible subject that they could both probably relate too. He wouldn't talk about surfing since that was his own private hobby that was to keep between him and his parents only. Surfing was a muggle sport and talking about it made Benjamin slightly uncomfortable with it. He then left the idea of speaking about it and went to another memory of him visiting the Quidditch World Cup a few years ago. He definitely started liking the only sport for the magical folk ever since but he doubted that a girl like her would take interest in that sport. The boy lowered his head, trying to think deeper for a certain topic. After all, I am the gentleman. His thoughts swiveled and went around the grounds of Hogwarts. It was certainly huge and he'd admit it to anyone. The Chase Manor was also magnificent, providing them such a space of a lot of stuff. The incident earlier occurred to him that he could actually make a subject out of it. The boy instantly lifted his head until he was facing her again, eye to eye. "So what brings you here, er, Jade?" The boy tried not to flinch when his own tongue released her name after with what just happened previously between the two first years.

Jade smiled in triumph. She had won this battle! She was a bit confused on why Benjamin suddenly gave up, but didn't question it. The Gryffindor had beat the Slytherin, and that was all that mattered to her right now. A few moments of silence passed between them before he finally said something. Jade rolled her eyes. "Yes, I bumped into you then irritated you just for the heck of it," she said sarcastically. While it was true, she would never admit that. It would probably just piss him off again and Jade wanted a normal conversation instead of the banter.

Once the wand was gone, Jade inadvertently breathed a sigh of relief. She had hidden it well until then, but she was terrified he was going to hex her. Now if he noticed the momentary weakness, she was almost sure that she wouldn't live it down. Let me for once be wrong, please let me be wrong, she thought desperately. An awkward silence fell over them and Jade was hopeful that he hadn't heard her. Finally Benjamin spoke again and Jade smiled. "I came here to watch the Owlery. What about you Ben? I'm going to call you Ben, just to let you know. It's not all that appealing up here unless you are weird like me," she said, glad that the silence was finally broken. Benjamin seemed like a mouthful to the young Gryffindor and decided it was easier to simply call him Ben.

Benjamin obviously did not like it when Whittle smiled victoriously. Just because of a stupid reminder, Benjamin lost his fight. The fight was only his to win. Him and only he alone. In the Chase Manor, respect was always the number one rule that all of them have to follow, except for his father. His father could do anything and order anything. With all the money they have, it was not that surprising that they can go on a round trip around the whole Wizarding World in just ordering in just an hour. Benjamin ignored her sarcastic comment for him not to snap back and make another argument between the two of them again. He was beaten and he wanted to get rid of that stupid thought polluting his own mind. The male Slytherin had the urge to roll his eyes and curse her since he knew already some spells that he may use on her. Well, with the help of his father, he was able to find that out. There was nothing to question about his father's brilliance and that was that. "Were you lost in thought or something?" Benjamin raised a brow and waited for her answer. All he wanted was to make a simple topic for her to actually converse with him. So far, it's been working. But he did not know when the presence of this female would finally get rid of him. While waiting, he breathed in small amounts of air just to calm his temper down. The Pure Blood in him wanted to storm away and analyze what the previous situation was. But Benjamin himself knew better. He'd be in trouble if ever he did that. He knew that somehow.

When she let out a tensed breath, Benjamin smiled playfully. He knew that he succeeded partially about threatening the girl with the sight of his wand. It made him look more casual looking than his expression before. It made him look just like an ordinary eleven year old boy, playing along with a fellow person. His slightly ruffled hair danced along with breeze as it swept passed them in a gentle form. "Why the tensed breath?" Benjamin asked her, as casual as he can. His voice hid his own curiosity beneath it. Even though Benjamin was skilled at it, he could not help but widen his smile tugging along his lips. It made him even more excited to hear what she is going to say. The boy had an idea that she might answer him directly, or probably beat around the bush with him. After all, he sensed her nervousness a while ago when his wand was pointed to her throat. If he just read more books that his mother had in her study room, he'd know more secrets of the wizarding world. "That's my nickname." He pointed out, seriously. That name was not really his 'official' nickname but some people called him that way back in the manor. His own mother called him that. Also his cousins and younger sibling that he had. All those people mentioned him and addressed him with that name except for his father. The name 'Benjamin' frequently came out of his mouth, or 'son'. So, it's either Benjamin or son. It was not actually weird for Benjamin. He also preferred himself to be called Benjamin by his father because he knew it was not in his father's nature to address him using his nickname. "I think it's nice up here," Benjamin commented at the same time shrugged. He loved the view and the gentle breeze that is still with them. The day was actually windy but he knew that there was a possibility for there to have a storm tomorrow. Meanwhile, he shall enjoy the dryness of the grounds and the coolness in the atmosphere. "and I am not weird like you. So, which house took you in?" Questioned the boy and was sure that she was not a Slytherin. But with that sharp tongue of hers, it was possible that the Sorting Hat would have put her with him. Fortunately, the answer was obviously not Slytherin and Benjamin wondered why. During the Sorting Ceremony, he ignored and refused to listen the sorting of the other people. He was just not that type to be simple.

OOCOut of Character:
Oh God, I am sooooooo sorry for the late reply. I just had a few things to manage first.

Ben was obviously ignoring all of her snide remarks, and that suited her just fine. Hearing his question, she replied with, "Well yeah. That happens a lot with me. Only I don't usually end up bumping into someone that nearly ends with one of us hexing the other." She meant it playfully, but he seemed to be taking in small breaths, like people tried to do when they needed to calm down. "You know, deep breaths are better for calm than small ones. You'll just end up hyperventilating and passing out," she said, being completely serious about it. Jade would rather not have to slap Ben or drag him to the infirmary or something else to wake him up.

Noticing the boy smiled playfully, Jade cursed inwardly. He had noticed and now she was gonna hear about it. Great. All hope that he wasn't going to tease her about it was lost with his next question. "Oh ya know..it was kind of chilly, and it got warm...so I was breathing in the warm air," she stuttered out. It sounded horribly fake in her ears and she could only imagine how it sounded to Ben. Knowing that Ben was his nickname, she smiled. "Good, so it won't be too weird for me to call you that." Jade had never had a nickname, simply because she never stayed anywhere long enough to get one. The closest she had ever had to a nickname was Van Gogh. Her father had given it to her after she had shown him her first really good drawing. She kept it in her pocket at all times as a reminder of her father. Thinking of it now, she lightly touched her pocket to make sure it was still there. Feeling the crinkle of the paper, a small smile crossed her face. Realizing she had faded off into her head again, she snapped back to the conversation. "Well if you think it's nice up here, than you are weird like me. No getting around it," she said, teasing him. She could tell he didn't like to be compared to her all that much. "Gryffindor decided they wanted me. Though any house would have worked," she said with all honesty. "I guess I'm pretty safe in saying you are a Slytherin?"

Again, Benjamin gave her a puzzled look. With all these know-it-all comments, he was starting to get irritated again. He hated that for Merlin's sake! If he could just tell her to shut up and mind her own business, that will absolutely do him good for the rest of the day. The serious look on her face made him think that what she was saying was true. But at first, he hesitated. He did not want to actually listen to her in all of a sudden. They just met today because of that fight Benjamin caused. He hoped that this girl would not be as intelligent as a genius. That would be sincerely annoying for him. "Where'd you learn all of these things?" All these things were giving him a headache that he hoped would go away. The boy stared at her for a few seconds and then took a small deep breath just to figure it out. He released it after two seconds and instantly felt better. There was really truth in her words. Shame Benjamin did not believe it at first. Benjamin felt the air was really getting warmer and warmer each second. He did not know why, but he immediately did not like it. The temperature seemed to increase and Benjamin stepped backwards to avoid the shining sunlight from outside. He just did not like it. The remaining sunlight did not reach them, thank Salazar, but he felt the sudden increase of temperature. "Sounds completely real to me." Benjamin replied sarcastically. He then chuckled with the horror the other first year was trying to keep. She was probably embarrassed with what he has sensed. "You do know that I was really not going to do it, don't you?" He asked her, with a little frown on his charming features. With him being concerned about it, it made him look like a little boy, trying to get the assurance that his playmate was okay. Benjamin smiled at her. She was already what to call him, thankfully. Why can't people just use their own common sense with what they are asking. Sometimes, Benjamin wanted to already frown at their stupid comments or questions regarding his name. They really wanted to annoy him, which he found completely immature. The name 'Benjamin' was actually made by his father for no reason. Being the eldest of the family, he was sure going to be the one to lead their business and he needed to keep up their wealth. It was always the role of the oldest member. So far, it was now his father who was the eldest. And only a boy should be the one to run the business. "Slytherin it is." He assured her. His pride that was reserved for his own house always remained inside him. It will never leave him. Being a Slytherin was just a great honor especially the fact that his father was a Slytherin. Pity that his mother was a Ravenclaw when she was in Hogwarts.
