Letters from Dumstrang

[Kasey Blake]

Kasey was sitting on her bad, with her text book of Arthimacy on her lap. She was finishing Arthimacy homework but didn't feel like doing it at the moment. She felt an emptiness in her life without Ben and Lila. She missed her family and was upset that they didn't write to her from so long. It had been almost two months since the school had started yet they didn't think it was necessary to write to Kasey.

The thought made her feel angry and she threw her pillow and by mistake it hit one of her violet pigmy puffs, Juliet. It had orginally belonged to Daniel but before leaving Hogwarts Daniel had given her Juliet so that she could stay with Romeo, Kasey's pygmy puff. "Aww.. I am sorry" she said as she got up and took the fluffy creature in her hand and stroked her. Romeo came out of their little home, a cardboard box and looked up at Kasey. "Do you miss them too?"she asked her pygmy puff.

Benjamin Carla was relaxing in his room as three pictures of beautiful females floated infront of him. "Hmm..difficult..very difficult" he thought shaking his head as he couldn't decide which girl was he to finalize his date with. His dorm mate suggested the blondie, she was too sexy but he liked the burnette with brown eyes. He hoped someone would help him with this. It was just too complicated for him to sort it out on his own.

He sipped some water from his glass as he put his pillow covering his face. Why is it so hard? Can't they allow me to take them one after the other? All of them want me today itself! Women! he thought his head under his pillow. Just then there was a knock on his door, it wouldn't have been Ken, his roomate otherwise he would have just come in and take one of his dates with him and sort out his problem. He wondered who it was, "Come in" he said still not bothering to remove his face from the pillow.

Daniel had just finished his two parchment essay on Werewolves when he remembered that Ben had called him this afternoon for some help. He didn't know what help, a fifth year could do to a seventh year but he however went to Ben's room and knocked hoping he was there because Daniel didn't like Ben's roommate who was very bossy to him. As he heard come in, he opened the door and walked in and by the voice of the reply he knew it was Benjamin himself.

"Hey buddy" he said as he noticed Ben hiding his face under the pillow. He saw three pictures floating by Ben and with a closer look he knew what all this was about. It was Friday and it was time for Ben to decide his Friday date. "Ben, did you call me here for this, AGAIN?"he asked as he pulled the pillow from his best friends's face. "Look at me man, you need to grow up" he said irritated. Well, the line didn't sound so good when a fifteen year old it to a seventeen year old but well what was he to do. "Can't you choose one girl?" he asked Ben as he looked the pictures because he knew it was going to be him who was going to decide it at last.

He remebered it was Daniel, thank Merlin he has come to help. He had told Daniel earlier that day at breakfast that he would need help but he didnt mention with what. As Daniel snatched the pillow from his face, he looked at him making an innocent face. "Yes, I can't do this myself" he told Daniel as his eyebrows turned up as he took the pictures for a closer look.

"Hey, can you take one of them? The tan girl is your age" he said his eyes sparkiling although he knew that the next thing Dan would do would be hitting him a punch, muggle style. "No, I can't choose one or I'll break their darling hearts" he said making a sad face. "Wish Ken was here, he would take the blondie and then I could go with the burnette but no he has to disappear today, ON FRIDAY" he said standing up and walking to his wardrobe. "Choose fast, so you can help me with the clothes" he said grinning at his best friend.

Daniel felt like punching Ben in his face as he said about him going out with the tan girl. "Benjamin, you know I fancy your sister" he said still frowning at Ben. Ben knew very well that Daniel liked Kasey, he had even caught them snogging, their first and only kiss interrupted by this man here. Daniel smiled as Ben said that he could go with the brunette. "So go with her, whats the problem?"he asked as he got up and walked to Benjamin.

"Dude, you look cool in whatever you wear. Girls are crazy behind you, don't make them mad to an extent that they are asked to go to St.Mungo's for writing your name with sharpened objects on their arms" he said as he gave Ben the brunette's picture and waving his wand put the other two photos in a side drawer where lay thousand other pictures of girls who had not been chosen by Benjamin.

"If this was the only thing why you called me here, I am leaving now that it is sorted out" he said as he filed the picture of the chosen girl in a wizarding file that opened on its own and today's date and time was written in it where he put the girl's picture.

Benjamin grinned as Daniel said he fancied Kasey. He didn't know what was up with his best friend but he knew that whatever it was, Daniel was being honest because Ben knew he never talked about girls, never flirted nor dated anyone. Daniel was even famous amongst the girls but maybe he seemed to act he didnt know or simply ignore the girls.

"Okay, if you say you like brunette, I say I like her too" he said grinning as he was pleased himslef for irritaing Daniel. That was his time pass activity."I know I look handsome in anything or nothing" he said with a wink and closed his wardrobe and turned to face Daniel as he was filing the girls picture.

"No, it wasn't the only reason" he said with a true friendly smile."The second reason might intrest you" he said as he waved his wand and a parchment, quill and ink appeared on his study table. "I was thinking...you might want to write to my sister" he said now smiling as he put his hand on Dan's shoulder assuring him that he was serious.

"I didn't say I liked her. I just said that if you wanted to go with her, why ask me" he said as he frowned once again as Ben said he looked handsome in nothing. "I am done with your jokes" he said deciding to leave. He still had to write an essay on Goblin Revolution which was due on Monday and it would be better for him if he finished his homework early then letting it drag.
He was busy on Sunday with Qudditch Practice so he opened the door to get out of here.

But as Ben said there was another reason and as he mentioned it, Daniel's inside felt like jumping out. He was happy to hear this and without intending to his wand produced butterflies, purple and golden in colour. The same kind that was drawn on Kasey's right arm as a tattoo.

"Really?"she said as he gave Benjamin a hug. Some things that Ben understood about Daniel were the things that Daniel would never be able to say to anyone and that was what made their friendship so strong and the reason for Daniel allowing Ben to irritate him all day long.
"You would write too, wouldn't you?"he asked Benjamin as he made another parchment and quill appear beside that of his own. "Come on, she'd love it. I'm sure she would be feeling lonely and you are her brother" he said again a frown made its way to his face. "Do I have t remind you that?"he asked him as he pulled Ben and made him sit on the chair beside him.

Benjamin accepted Daniel's hug and hugged him back. When Daniel mentioned that Benjamin should write too, he felt stupid. He loved Kasey and was always caring for her but he was getting late for his date and that would make a very bad impression for Ben."Alright I'll write but first I'll change and give you some privacy" he said with a smile and took out a suit from his wardrobe and went to take a shower.

Daniel appreciated the privacy that Benjamin had provided him but once he thought about it, he didn't know what to write. What if he couldn't control his quill, in this case meaning his emotions and wrote things that Kasey would think of as inappropriate after what she had told him about their relationship.

However, he bucked up the courage and started writing his letter with the emerald ink and the purple feathered quill.

Dear Kasey,

How are you? How is everything at Hogwarts? Have you managed to catch up with the two weeks that you missed? Well, I say you would be studying things ahead of those taught in class from the little knowledge I have of you. I hope you have continued to be part of the Ravenclaw team and still are an excellent chaser.

Dumstrang is cool as usual. We are frozen here and have to wear sweaters, jackets all the time. Sunlight is minimum on this part of the earth and we just see the day for four hours. We have started learning about more complex spells, magical creatures and plants and also the level of Dark Arts is brutal in this school. But tell me about yourself.

When do you have the next Brightstone trip? It's because we'll be having a two week holiday in a month and I was wondering if you'd like to meet me? Ben and I miss you so much. I have luckily purchased a magical camera and will soon send you some pictures of myself. Do send me yours too.

Benjamin walked into the bathroom and had bath with hot water because you only had a shower here with cold water if you were in mood of commiting sucide because it was freezing in these Northern areas.

After the bath he walked out dressed in red and gold robes. He noticed Daniel had finished writing and so he said with a smile"That was pretty fast" and then sat beside Dan to write his letter.

Dearest Kasey,

Hey there. Hope you are doing well with school, Qudditch and other things(being pretty prefect that you are). Well, I was missing you and thought to owl you. I am fine here freezing as always but girls around here take pretty good care to keep me warm.

Well, I wont be coming to Brightstone nor come home for holidays this time because I have pretty much of work here being a seventh year is not easy. And I heard rumors that they want me to be head boy next year that is so not cool. I get good grades but such a flirt cant be a prefect. Bye hoping to hear from you soon.Hope you miss me.

"You can kiss the letter if you want" Ben teased as he took his letter and tied it to his owl, Black and then tied Daniel's letter to its same paw. "Bye I am off to my date with the brunnete" he said as he smiled seeing the owl go out in the cold frozen forest and slowly disappear out of sight.

Kasey looked out from her dorm window and saw the sun setting behind the forest trees. Hundreds of bats made their way out of the forest looking for their food. Kasey turned back to her dorm once again and with a sigh, she lay on her bed, chest down and flipped a muggle fashion magazine.

She found a few intresting tips and dressing styles which she planned to use in near future for her fashion statement. This was when she heard a hoot of an owl on her dorm window. Turning to see whose owl it was, she smiled excitedly as she recognized the Northen Spotted Owl belonged to Benjamin. She opened the window and let the owl share the cage with Miley and eat some food.

She happily unfolded the letter, reading Benjamin's first. The brother's curly scrawl brought a smile on her face. She wondered if Lila had written to her as she unfolded the next letter but to her surprise and excitment it was from Daniel.

She read it twice, first time with hurry and the second time very slowly taking in each word.
She was happy that the boys had written to her because she missed them dearly. She would love to meet Dan at Brightstone Village although she wondered if their meeting would be something more then what it seemed like. She had explained Daniel to forget her but it seemed he didn't succeed. Kasey liked Daniel very much but she knew that such a distant owl relationship wouldn't be enough for neither of them and so she had asked him to forget her.

She wrote back immediately, this time using Violet for the delivery because it was time Daniel took his owl back. She also used Black but she sent Ben's reply a day late as she knew Black would need rest after such a long journey.

Dear Dan,

I am so pleased to hear from you. I am fine and so is everything at Hogwarts. The OWLs are creeping on everyone and the workload is at it's higest. I have done the try outs but the results are not yet out. I won't be surprised if I don't get selected owing to the fact I didn't practise for so long.

I don't know about the Brightstone trip. We'll have it in a month but I don't know if I would be free at the time because exams are near and I need to study. I don't want to say no so I'll come for a short time. Daniel, I hope that you still have in mind what I spoke to you last time before we departed for school.

I haven't used my camera in a while, we don't have field trips this term and I didn't feel like using it but if I use it I will surely send you the snapshots. I will love to see yours. Are you coming home for holidays?

P.S I want you to keep Violet with you. Romeo and Juliet are fine, they miss you. Miley is great too although she is always sulky.

Dear Brother,

I miss you so much. I wish you could spare some time and come to see me in the Brightstone trip. I understand the work you'll be having there because being a fifth year is pretty hard so ofcourse at your level, I understand. I am very happy and proud to hear they are considering you as a head boy.

Ben, why can't you choose one girl? It's not good to flirt with everyone, you might be breaking hearts.I am working hard for My OWLS from now itself but feel very lonely at this school. After coming back from the holiday it seems all my friends have left or tranferred. Mom hasn't written to me, I wonder why. Anyway, I hope you can make it to Brightstone.

[Daniel Olsen]

Daniel woke up early morning when an owl hooted in his dormitory room bringing snow with it and landing on Dan's face. He did not like to be disturbed and so he sat up in his bed, pushing the owl away from his nose and wiping the melting snow with his covers. "What the ?"he said as he looked around to see who had left his window open on such a stormy night.

He realized that the owl had flown in not from his window but the door, probably having made it's way from the other dorm. He also noticed that it was his own old owl, Violet which he had left with Kasey. This means.. he thought excitedly as he waved his wand and lit the room lamps. Unfolding the letter as fast as possible he read the letter from Kasey.

He was happy with the answer, he hadn't expected her to say yes. But the line Daniel, I hope that you still have in mind what I spoke to you last time before we departed for school kept ringing in his mind. She has agreed and thats a good start he thought happily as he walked to his study table and started writing on a parchment with a eagle feather quill.

Dear Kasey,

Thanks for writing back. I will bring the photos personally to Brightstone, I am glad that you agreed. However Kasey, I think it's time you considered what you had said to me. It needs to be changed. Yes, I will be coming for holidays but if you are not planning to come home then it's no use of me being with Mrs.Carla. See you at Brightstone.

P.S I am happy to see Violet but she doesn't like me anymore so it's better you keep her with you. Besides, I don't have any experience on pets compared to yours.
