Kristen walked up to the owlery with her letter clutched in her hand. It was to her father, who she had said she'd write to often, and hadn't written to yet. Feeling guilty, she had written a very long letter, telling him all about which house she was in, how her classes were going and about making a new friend.
She was happy, and she even said so in her letter. She knew her dad would be happy to hear that she is fitting in. She went to the first bird she saw and gave it a small pat before trying her letter to its leg. "Take this to my Dad, Kolya Hiwatari, please" She said. The owl gave a soft hoot before launching itself out of the owlery and flying away.
Kristen leaned against a window ledge and watched it fly away. She stayed in that position for a while.
