in another life i would make you stay
so i don't have to say you were the one that got away

There was a splash off in the distance as two first years jumped into the cool water of the lake. They both surfaced squealing and Taylor couldn't stop a smile from reaching her face. She felt grown up. Even though that in itself was quite an immature statement, it was true. She was only just coming to terms with the fact that she was a seventh year. It was her last year of Hogwarts ever. As she tugged on her light pink shirt, stepping through the grass in a pair of boots, Taylor's eyes could not go past something without a memory coming back to the front of her mind. The lake reminded her of the time she went swimming with a merman, the large expanse of grass reminded her of picnics with Toni, Sam, Jenna, Hoshi, Knight and herself or 'the group' as they had called it, the garden off in the distance reminded her of the day her and Scorpius had broken up, her favourite giant oak tree had her recalling when she had punched Jenna. There were good and bad memories, as well as quite a few regrets, but at that moment Taylor felt nothing but content. She knew she would be sad to leave Hogwarts after graduation, after all, it was her home and the people that walked the halls were her family. But at least she could leave knowing that her experiences had made her a stronger and better person.

A cool spring breeze blew the hair off Taylor's face as she came to a stop near the edge of the lakefront. She looked out over the waters like she had so many times before and let out a sigh. She would admit that even though she was quite comfortable with her life, she couldn't help but feel a little lonely from time to time. Sam had a new girlfriend, Toni was gone, Hoshi hung out with an entirely different group of people, Taylor hadn't spoken to Scorpius in four years and she had no intention of ever talking to Jenna again. Taylor wasn't usually one to hold grudges, but there was just something about her, whether it was Taylor's jealously that her and Scorpius had always had that connection, or just Jenna as a person, after Taylor had snapped and hit her, she doubted there was any chance they would ever be friends. Perhaps Taylor was just over thinking everything and being irrational by feeling lonely. She had plenty of friends, but Sam was the only one she trusted at Hogwarts. And she hardly spoke to Raffael now that he had moved out to live with his girlfriend. Taylor ignored the feelings in favour of walking a little way further along the lakefront to her favourite oak tree. It was best not to dwell on silly feelings of loneliness when she knew she had a lot of people around her that cared for her, but it was just one of those things that snuck into her brain every once and a while. Glancing up, she noticed the first years from earlier scramble out of the water and stand shivering in their soaked clothing for a moment before both of them bolted to a thick patch of grass and lay down to soak up the warm rays of the sun.
