Leo likes his first name and the meaning of it, and when he changed his name decided to keep his first name for its meaning as brave due to the fact he left the life he had behind to bravely follow his dreams.

When he was younger he wore mostly black and greys but since growing older and becoming more confident in his image and sense of style he has begun to wear clothing that is more colourful and patterned and he tries to experiment more with his style. On stage he definitely tries to be more over the top and wear more eccentric colours and patterns and statement accessories, but in person he while still dressing experimentally, is a bit more toned down.

Leo's eyes are naturally a dark blue, a trait he inherited from his father's side of the family. He doesn't feel any particular way about his eye colour.

Leo often dated whenever he and his girlfriend were broken up and this only caused more arguments between them, ultimately leading to them breaking up for good and the girl moving away when Leo was in his early to mid twenties. Since then Leo has considered himself and his actions as the reason for their toxicity, and in the years following has never been in a real relationship and keeps many of his romantic partners at a distance to avoid the same arguments and stress. Leo worries that his emotions and way of dealing with said emotions, as well his tireless work to his dream is the reason his future relationships will fail. INTERESTS AND HOBBIES
Leo is first and foremost interested in anything related to music, playing and writing and studying music. He has taught himself to play guitar and bass, and sing and has also taught himself music theory and is able to clearly write down music riffs and motifs on paper with this for other musicians to read. Leo while not overly theoretical does enjoy the study of music history and its relevance in shaping culture and finds the study and concept of how he can attempt to shape culture and history with his own band and music is wholly an interest and hobby of his. Leo also loves the subject of divination and has a big interest in it, particularly in tarot cards and tarot card reading. He still has the same old and slightly torn pack of tarot cards he purchased himself as a teenager and uses this to complete tarot readings whenever he has a question that needs answered, in an attempt to guide a friend or out of pure curiosity. One of the few hobbies and interests Leo has maintained from his childhood with his family is his love of cooking. Leo learned to cook from his mother and often is found cooking for his band and often finds himself making pasta from scratch and cooking to help clear his mind and process emotions when he is stressed or unable to process things by expressing it through music.
STRENGTHS
Leo is confident in himself, determined and hard working. When he wants something he works tirelessly to achieve his goals and doesn't stray from the path he wants to be on. He is commanding in clear in his communication and honest, and he does not see the point of sparing someones feelings with white lies or soft words. He says things how they are and is mostly up front with his intentions and emotions, everyone in Leos life knows where they stand and he is able to set clear boundaries for himself and his relationships. Leo is creative and spends his time actively bettering himself in regards to his creativity and hobbies. He strives for self improvement and tries to see the larger picture as well as the finer details of a situation. Leo while hard working and devoted to what he cares about, is almost solely focused on this and can be considered self serving and unreliable in regards to anything that isn't his sole focus or a means to an end, and can be dismissive and flaky of something if it isn't a way for him to achieve his goals. He is prone to getting angry when something does not get his way and is not the best at controlling his emotions, and as a result he can snap and yell or say things he regrets later. Leo also in being honest and up front is blunt and can come across as rude and arrogant to others. Additionally, Leo tends to keep most people at a distance and unless he lets someone in and lets someone become close to him he is cold and aloof and emotionally unavailable, which has been a detriment to his romantic relationships over the years. While being honest and blunt and the people in Leo's life knowing where they stand, Leo does admittedly keep many of his deepest secrets and feelings close to heart, and does not open up easily, if at all to others from an insecurity of being hurt. Leo is first and foremost interested in anything related to music, playing and writing and studying music. He has taught himself to play guitar and bass, and sing and has also taught himself music theory and is able to clearly write down music riffs and motifs on paper with this for other musicians to read. Leo while not overly theoretical does enjoy the study of music history and its relevance in shaping culture and finds the study and concept of how he can attempt to shape culture and history with his own band and music is wholly an interest and hobby of his. Leo also loves the subject of divination and has a big interest in it, particularly in tarot cards and tarot card reading. He still has the same old and slightly torn pack of tarot cards he purchased himself as a teenager and uses this to complete tarot readings whenever he has a question that needs answered, in an attempt to guide a friend or out of pure curiosity. One of the few hobbies and interests Leo has maintained from his childhood with his family is his love of cooking. EARLY YEARS
Leo Malstrom was born Leonardo Joseph Morandi on October 30, 2023 to Parents Santo and Vedette Morandi in the United states. Leo was the youngest of six children to his Italian-american parents, with his older sister being 10 years older than him and due to begin school, and his other older siblings having graduated or currently in school. As a result of this age gap between him and his siblings, Leo spent his childhood being raised mostly alone. Leo spent his early years and most of his childhood in hand me downs from his older siblings and helping his mother cook and clean the house. He was taken care of mostly by his mother who taught him how to read and write and how to cook, and cooking with his mother is the only real happy memory he has with his family, otherwised overshadowed by his mother and fathers strict rules and regulations. Leo rarely if ever spent time with his older siblings in addition to this and saw them as strangers whenever they visited, making him feel as if aside from his parents, he was entirely alone. This distance was cemented further when Leo was seven years old and he and his parents relocated to New Zealand for his father's career.
From time Leo was able to form his own opinions and make decisions, he never wanted to fit the expectations and mold his parents had set for him. The rules his mother set were ones he thought were supposed to be broken and as Leo found himself in an entirely new country without any friends and no siblings to spend his time with at home, he constantly got into mischief and into trouble. He was often grounded and in trouble for causing chaos out of anger and isolation and found it difficult to make friends because he simply didn't know how to make friends, or that he needed friends to begin with.
SCHOOL YEARS
When Leo became of age to start his schooling as a wizard, his rebellious nature had far from subsided. As both a result of his mischief and due to different situations with his older siblings and their issues during school, Leo upon turning 11 was put into home schooling by his mother, where Leo was tutured by one of his aunts that tutured magical children full time. Leo spent his first few years of schooling impatient and a bit resentful that he wasn't able to leave home like his siblings to learn magic, he felt trapped in a home and country he resented, and he hated every minute of it. As he was 12 years old and learning his second year magic he found a slight reverie from the anger he felt at being alone and stuck where he was in the form of a friend named Benji Ito. Benji like Leo was home schooled and the pair were fast friends, Leo not facing the same issues in making friends that he had previously. He and Benji got along like wildfire and Leo wated to spend all of his free time with the boy. It was through Benji that Leo was introduced to music and Benji's family and they were the reason Leo began to see there was a different way to live rather than being weighed down by his own families rules and restrictions.
As Leo grew older and into his teens, his love of music grew and his creativity flourished. He taught himself to play guitar and sing, and wrote songs and played music as a means to express his emotions and anger at being trapped under his parents roof. He was actively busking and playing music around town to fund his love of music and eventually managed to save up enough money to buy his first second hand guitar when he was fourteen years old. Leo also leaned into the punk style, dying his hair different colours to make his parents angry and returning home with new piercings that caused family arguments. His schooling had fallen to the wayside and though he was actively learning magic through his aunt who continued tutoring him, Leo couldn't help but find himself daydreaming and distracted when he was supposed to be learning. Leo only focused when he thought the subjects he was learning would be useful and worth the effort, thus he focused more when he was being taught practical charms and potions, and found his mind was elsewhere when his aunt tried to teach him history or theoretical subjects. Leo showed the most interest in divination which both his aunt and parents heavily disliked.
By the time Leo was sixteen he had saved up enough money to purchase his first pack of tarot cards and divination text books, and from the time he read the first page in his first book about divination he was hooked, unable to keep his mind from the possibilities of the future and the mysticism of being able to predict or clue himself into the unknown via divination. Leo continued rebelling from his parents up until the point he was seventeen, knowing by the time he did turn seventeen exactly how he wanted to spend his life, and that he was destined to be a musician. It was his dream and his calling and he would rather die than live the life his family expected of him.
ADULTHOOD
Thereby at the very moment Leo turned seventeen he moved out of his parents home and to the city of Wellington with his best friend Benji, cutting most ties with the previous life he knew and the person he was. He renamed himself as Leonardo Malstrom as a stage name initially although soon changed his name legally to fully sever the connection his name had to his past so nothing could hold him back. Leo got a job in a local cafe to pay for the grungy, cheap flat they had moved into. Leo was entirely broke and living pay check to pay check, busking in his spare time and playing free gigs at local bars, but left to his own devices and able to make his own decisions like he had always wanted while pursuing his dream, he realised he was happy for the first time in is life. It was at this age that Leo through mutual musician friends got into his first relationship with a girl that also played at local open mic nights. She was a muggle and their relationship was on and off, with Leo dating other women whenever he and his girlfriend broke up, and they were a toxic mess and remained so for many years but Leo was living his dream or trying to and saw the mess of a relationship he was in as a means to an end, at least in regards to songwriting.
It wasn't until Leo was a few years older that he reunited with Vera Ito, the younger sister to his best friend Benji. Vera who had moved to Wellington to also pursue music while Benji planned to leave and Leo was thankful for Benji's place in his life to be replaced by someone he also considered a good friend. It was at this point that Leo and Vera started playing music together, beginning to play together in a band they named Phoenix. Leo and Vera continued to write songs and play together, sharing a flat for a few more years as a duo before they were joined by the enthusiastic Delaney Hollis. Delaney had recently graduated and his energy and persistence lead him to joining Leo and Vera in their band and moving with them into a larger flat. They began playing together and writing songs, their new dynamic as a trio leading them to rename the group as Ashes.
The trio played and wrote together for a few months before realizing they were missing one member, a lead singer to round them out as a group and push them forward. The missing link of their group was quickly and coincidentally found in the form of an ironically named Asher Beckett. The band encountering the young man after saving him from a drunken fight during an open mic night and after a pact to allow Asher to join them if he stopped drinking, Asher indeed joined them and their band Ashes was whole and complete. It was with the band all together that they found their sound and created a sense of unity, playing songs they had written locally and trying to achieve a small name for themselves. Leo quit his job at the cafe once Ashes was fully formed, and has been playing with Ashes ever since. He has never looked back, and is currently living with and continuing to work with the band and further his career with them as an entity and working hard to ensure their success. Leo's main focus in life is his career and pursuit of music and he intends to find success with Ashes.
