J.R. had made a horrible discovery. Somewhere in the castle, making the very food she ate every day, were hundreds of horrid creatures known as 'house elves.' Or so her books told her. How could she have gone two years at the school without knowing this? Determined to see for herself, she set off in search of the kitchen.
She had to ask a few portraits, but eventually she'd found the right one, and a ghost told her how to get in. She 'tickled' the pear on the portrait and it swung open to reveal a flurry of activity. J.R.'s eyes bulged and her jaw dropped. She took a deep breath, ready to scream...
In front of her, she saw an enormous kitchen, crowded with creepy hairless rat-type things. Huge rats! Two feet tall rats! With creepy noses and enormous ears, standing on their hind legs and... touching the food. Some were mixing things, some were measuring ingredients, some were chasing each other, making all kinds of mess... and touching the food!
J.R. had always felt uneasy about eating Hogwarts food - the fact that it appeared magically freaked her out, but she'd eaten it because she'd believed there was no alternative. Now 'uneasy' turned to absolutely disgusted. Not only was her food being prepared magically, but it was being prepared magically by VERMIN!
"AAAAUUUUGGGHHHH" she let out an almighty scream
