It had been near hell trying to convince her mother to let her drive, by herself, over two hours from home for 'some rock concert'. In the end the sixteen year old had finally won the argument, after of course using her own money to pay for the ticket and agreeing to fill the tank back up with fuel after she got back home, again using her own money. Thanks be to Merlin the young female had her own stash of cash that she'd been putting back for the last two years, some of which had been given to her secretly by her Nana before she passed away.
There was a crowd. Of course there was a crowd. Kynleigh knew there would be a crowd. They were all here for him. She was here for him. Ticket clutched tightly in her hand the tall blonde fought her way through the crowd to her seat. Three rows back from the center of the stage. Her heart leapt in her throat and she couldn't believe that she was so nervous to see him play. Kynleigh had seen Elijah play loads of time when they'd been in school. Of course those shows were slightly smaller, as in just the two of them together on the school grounds. She smiled at the thought of those days and couldn't believe that so much time had passed between then and now. So much time had passed without a word between the two. She'd left school without any notice to anyone and really never looked back...well she'd looked back at the thought of him everyday for two years.
"Yeah, I'm almost done with it then I'll move on to the upstairs," Kynleigh yelled from the kitchen to her mother as she rolled her eyes. She stuck her hands back in the dishwater and continued scrubbing the pots and pans that had been dirtied up by the previous nights meal preparation. It seemed like all she did lately was clean and study. At least it wasn't muggle school, her mother had at least agreed to pay for private homeschooling for the young witch. Now if only she were of age and could use magic to clean the house she'd have loads more free time to do the things she wanted. "Oh well, another year and I'll be able to leave," she mused out loud to herself as she rinsed and dried the last pot and put it away.
There was a thud on the front porch and Kynleigh glared. The darn paperboy was going to smash a window one of these days if he kept aiming as horribly as he did. Her mother didn't read the news, but the young blonde liked to keep up with what was going on in the world around her. Tucking the paper under her arm she headed upstairs with the intention of doing the small amount of cleaning that needed to be done up there, but as her attention span would have it she found herself in her favorite spot, the small little area of rooftop that could be reached from her bedroom window, with the paper spread out on her lap. She flipped through carelessly reading the articles. There was one about a local family who had lost their home in a fire, but the community had swooped in to save the day and help them rebuild their life. Another about an underprivileged youth who had worked hard and landed a huge scholarship to some college abroad. Then came the small article that nearly toppled her right over and off the roof of her home. It wasn't the words that stopped her, but the small picture that went with it. It was a picture of Elijah. Kynleigh sat there and stared for the better part of ten minutes. What was he doing in her newspaper? For the answer to that she looked below the picture and read the interview that went along with it. Her smile practically covered her face from ear to ear. "He did it," she squealed loudly as she clapped her hands.
It had been two weeks since Kynleigh had read the article in the newspaper. She'd cut it out and had kept if folded up in her pocket ever since then. She'd always known that Elijah was talented and now the rest of the world was getting to find that out. The blonde girl was nervous. She wasn't sure why she was nervous. There had never been a reason to be nervous around Elijah before, but this felt different. Before it had always just been the two of them against the world, but that was before Kynleigh had left school...had left him. It was even very highly unlikely that he would even notice that she was here. She was just one face in a crowd of so many others, but she was the one face in this crowd who cared for him like no other. Tonight was Elijah's night. She was here for him whether he knew it or not and she was so proud of him.
