Poppy hesitated at the door of the student lounge and actually had to step aside as other students went in before her. She wasn't sure if Nicole would even be inside but she hoped that she would be. She didn't want to have to run around the castle looking for her and just wanted to get this over with. Poppy felt a pang of sadness when she realized her friend could hang out in completely different places now and she would never know. With one more deep breath she walked inside and exhaled loudly when she did in fact see Nicole. She rocked back and forth on her heels a few times before finally closing the distance. "Uh, you have a rose." Poppy mumbled when she was close enough to be heard and held out the yellow rose.

Nicole tried to do her best to pick the most visible spots on Valentine's day, just in case someone might be looking for her. She was trying to focus on getting some of her homework done for her upcoming OWLs, but it was so hard to focus with the rose givers coming in and out and Nicole looking up hopefully each time.

She couldn't help but blink in surprise when Poppy appeared though, announcing she had a rose. Nicole still wasn't exactly thrilled with Poppy after she hadn't defended Nicole against Connor and Eric last year, but Nicole had already received a rose from Connor today, so things couldn't get much more awkward. "Oh, hi Poppy. Thank you," she said hesitantly, trying to find a neutral tone to respond as she took the yellow rose.

Poppy wasn't sure what she had expected from this encounter but such a polite greeting wasn't it. But it didn't do much for her nerves and she felt like she was walking on ice. "You're welcome." she said and couldn't help that it sounded more like a question. After going so long without speaking, it was strange for it all to feel so normal. "And here's the note." she said quickly and handed it over. She wondered who it was from as she hovered, unsure if she should take her leave now.

Nicole took the rose with a polite nod before opening the note, unable to stop herself from huffing in amusement at Emma's ability to write loudly somehow. She glanced back at Poppy, awkwardly folding the note away quickly. It would be awkward if Poppy had been expecting a rose from someone in their friend group and had been left out. Nicole certainly hadn't felt charitable enough to send her or Iris one this year. "Well, hope you have a good day," she said, hoping Poppy would take the hint and go away.

Poppy again was left feeling unsure as Nicole seemed to have no reaction to her presence what so ever. "Um, you too." she mumbled, before turning quickly to leave. She wasn't sure why she felt so sick to her stomach but she did. Was she really expecting some kind of apology or explanation? Even an argument would have been better than that. She felt incredibly silly.
