It's okay for now

The nights were becoming longer, the sky was getting clearer and everybody's spirits seemed to be high. Summer was rolling in fast on New Zealand, causing many to leave their homes and spend a day shopping in the sunshine. Shopping in the wizarding world was far more entertaining than muggle shopping. There were actually interesting items to browse from in shop windows, strange objects which moved and brightly coloured sweets for the children. The crowd today was noisy, bustling through the busy street, clasping their bags of shopping and wiping their sticky foreheads. The ice cream parlour would certainly be busy today, that was for sure. It was days like these when everyone craved the sweet, cold, refreshing flavours found within the shop. Luckily, Bridget was not headed there today. In fact, she had decided to take a stroll down the less busy part of the village. She and her Mother had permanently moved here now, as booking more and more nights just to stay in this wonderful place was costing rather a lot of money. She wondered what on earth they would do without her grandfather's help, as he was the only way they could stay alive. His galleons provided the roof over their heads and the food they ate. Bridget absolutely despised having to depend on someone else to live. She felt cheap, dirty. If she never managed anything else in life, she was determined she would not end up like this. She would have enough money to support herself, and perhaps a family too. Bridget found herself daydreaming at the prospect of love and a family, but quickly snapped herself out of it. Not only did it concern her when she daydreamed, she knew she was far too young to be thinking so far ahead. Even her Mother wasn't concerned about finding love, though she did already have a daughter to look after.

Bridget sighed, pulling her wavy red hair back into a rare ponytail. It was unusual for her to wear her hair up, but quite frankly it was far too hot to let it dangle over her shoulders. She wiped her damp forehead, seeking shelter from the blazing hot sun without much luck. All she could do was keep walking through the dispersing crowd until she found somewhere cool. Not long after this ran through her mind, she found the park she had once visited before. It was small and the grass had been worn down by children playing there, but this did not concern the small girl. She strolled towards a small brown bench within the shade of a large Oak. It was extremely relieving to sit down at last, as she knew the trek home would be just as exhausting. It was strange, she thought, how the sun could make mundane tasks seem like such an effort. Closing her eyes, Bridget began to drift in and out of a daydream, smiling contently as the sun blared down on the park. She inhaled the sweet smell of the roses behind her, finally comfortable to be in this dream like state. It was a much needed moment where she knew everything was OK.. Not good, but OK.
