It Was A Wonderful Splash

The cliffs were intimidating, huge, far down, yet in their own way lovely. To say that Carson was scared of them was an incorrect statement entirely. Instead they interested her to now extent. She imagined what it what it would be like to be a bird. A bird that could fly down the cliff falling and falling until you pulled up the last minute. How wonderful that would be. Yet Carson could not be a bird. Instead her mind flashed to the muggle sport of bungee jumping. Now that was more reasonably and when she turned of age, 18 in the muggle world, she was positive she would try it. As of now she would just have to enjoy the view that was before her. Enjoy the view down and down until the ground looked so far away.

Carson smiled brightly as she walked towards the edge her blue eyes focusing on the ground so far away. Gently bending over she picked up a rock that was near her, a tiny pebble to be exact. She carefully threw it down the great cliff watching it hit the edges making the slightest bit of noise each time. The smile grew on her face as the rock hit the bottom of the cliff laying there like it belonged there all along.

Pausing for a moment to watch the now non moving rock, Carson felt the wind blow gently making her brown hair blow behind her only to fall back into place like it always did. As the wind let up, the small eleven year old girl took a step away from the cliff as her search for yet another rock started. Within moments she found another rock which was soon tossed over the edge. The blue eyed child watched as once more it bounced off the edges amusement clearly printed on her face. How easily amused she could be.

Penelope sighed. Was she ever in a pickle. She had tried to go somewhere to get a nice view, so she went to the cliffs. She stayed far away from the edge. She feared falling. But the view wasn't very nice from in the middle of the cliff. No, she decided to go to the girl standing near the edge. After she tied her shoe. She tied her shoe, then the other. She made sure that they wouldn't come undone so she wouldn't trip and fall to her death.

She gulped. She heard a few repeated noises. It seemed the girl was throwing rocks down and they hit the side of the cliff. She walked over, not as afraid of the cliff. "H-Hello," she said. "I'm Penelope, also known as Penny." She didn't normally say her nickname in her introduction, but had decided it was best to.

"I'm a Gryffindor first year," she said proudly. This made her feel better, the thought that she was a Gryffindor. A lion. Brave and courageous. She bent over and took a small rock. She lifted it up before dropping it. She threw it in a way that it would hit the cliff over and over. Penelope watched the rock land on the ground, oh so far away. She gulped again before regaining her courage.

Carson watched as the last rock she threw settled nicely at the bottom of the cliff. Oh how she wished she could fly. Of course being muggleborn she didn't know about broomsticks or flying once so ever. Oh what a shock it would be when she learned to fly. Oh what a happy surprise that would make. Being how she was Carson hadn't even checked the timetable in the common room. Until the night before classes, Carson wouldn't even know there was such a class a flying. For once being school orientated would help this young Gryffindor princess. Too bad it didn't matter, because one thing that Carson almost never did was change.

Feeling the presence of other person near her, Carson looked over to make note of a young girl about her own age. "Nice to meet you Penny. Would you rather be called Penelope or Penny?" Carson asked not knowing why it would matter. Nicknames were always strange to the young brunette. Maybe it was because Carson never had a nickname. Probably because it was hard to make a nickname from the name Carson. Yes my name is Carson call me Car or Son. Nope neither of those worked at all.

Watching the girl throw a rock over the cliff, Carson wondered if Gryffindors were really brave. Certainly Carson had never considered herself brave, but this girl didn't seem too awfully brave either. Maybe the courage was within. That hat had to see something to place the other girl into Gryffindor. "I'm a gryffindor first year as well" Carson said "And the name's Carson" She added forgetting to introduce herself before. "Surprised I haven't seen you around. Well really we haven't been here that long so it's kinda understandable" Carson went on laughing a tad bit at her mini babble.

((So sorry for the delay, I didn't notice this earlier))

"Nice to meet you as well," Penelope said, smiling. "Either is fine. Whichever is more comfortable for you. I've gotten used to replying to both." She took a seat on the edge of the cliff, hoping this would make her feel more comfortable. She hoped she would do okay when they started flying. It wasn't so bad, she reassured herself. She would be on a broom that she would have control of. And there always was a hospital wing. That was the first thing she had looked for when arriving at the school. A good thing to know for her.

"Well, it's nice to see another Gryffindor first year," Penelope said. "I'm sure there are a lot but it's still nice. And Carson is a nice name. So, er, Hogwarts is interesting, huh? I'm enjoying it already. Although I can't wait to start learning about everything. By everything, I mean all the subjects of course. Nobody can store every little bit of information in their brain. It's impossible." She realized that she was rambling again. "Sorry, I'm a little talkative sometimes."

((No Problem. Sorry for my delay as well))

Carson smiled at the girl deciding that she would probably call her Penny simply because it was indeed easier to remember and say. Wow what has she become. Lazy. Well of course she has. No one every doubted the Carson was lazy. Really it was always her mother that claimed such things. 'Carson you spend your whole day at the beach. Why not be productive one of these days and not so lazy' 'Well mother I'm not quite lazy just enjoying life and being a kid'. The conversation went the same way every time. Her mother would roll her eyes before letting the quite untamable Carson out the door in her bathing suit and flip flops down to her favourite place in the world.

Walking up to the girl, Carson sat down right next to her and next to the edge of the cliffs. Thoughts of flying came back to mind but the young blue eyed child pushed them out of mind as she crossed her legs pretzal style. Taking a deep breath she looked up at the clouds above. Cloud watching another activity that always claimed laziness, but really Carson thought it created more imagination. And hey, imagination was never a bad thing in this young girls point of view.

Her eyes closed as she listened to the young girl named Penny talk. No she wasn't being rude. Carson was rarely rude on purpose. She was just taking in her surroundings with other senses other than her eyes. She listened to the sound of the gryffindor's voice next to her. The feel of the wind blowing softly. The feeling of being high above the world as she sat upon the edge of a cliff ever so high. It was actually a relaxing and at the same time slightly exciting feeling. "No need to ever apologize for being talkative" Carson said opening her bright blue eyes and looking over at the girl. "I'm not really looking forward to classes. They all sound rather boring from what I've heard other than Astronomy or whatever. That sounds like fun. Star gazing. Who could hate that" Carson spoke. Why was everyone so excited about classes. It was school. No normal eleven year old should be excited for school.

"So Penny." Carson began looking out over the cliff. "Found anything worthwhile in this castle. Heard stories of hidden passage ways and house elves in the kitchens. Haven't check either out. Can't find a hidden passage but I'm pretty sure they are out there. And well house elves. I saw a picture in a book once and wow big eyes those things seem to have" Carson went on laughing a bit as the picture came into her head. Though big eyed house elves seemed like a good time to see. They were cute in their own way like a puppy. Though Carson dare not say that. She had read that some people treated house elves like people and others like slaves. She wasn't sure which point of view she would take. Probably more like people though the young Gryffindor would love no doubt seeing them. A trip to the kitchen at one point was needed.

((That's okay, sorry for mine again. This is becoming a pattern. Anyway, it isn't that creative either so sorry again.))

Penelope sighed. "I bore people sometimes, thankfully I wasn't going on about a boring subject or you would be bored to death," she said. "I kind of like the idea of going to classes." She felt her face turn red. "I was always that nerdy girl that people made fun of. But I don't mind. I mean, I'm starting over here. Yeah, I can't wait for Astronomy. Learning about what's out in space, looking at it from far away..." She sighed dreamily.

Then Penelope remembered the conversation going on and listened to what Carson said. "Well, if you're not a fact person like me, then there isn't much," she said. "I mean, I like the library. Also the Gryffindor common room. So cozy in there. I've heard that the paintings on the walls are fun to talk to. Never tried it myself, though."

She nodded. "I think there might be some hidden passageways," she said. "I was bored while I was walking down one of the corridors and it felt hollow, like there was an opening behind it. And the funny thing is, nowhere else felt hollow. It could be my imagination, though. And house elves, I've read that they are nice and loyal. They have the funniest eyes, though. Although it's like they're pleading you to do something. What do they call them? Oh, yes, 'puppy dog eyes.' I think that's it."
