Strolling with her head down through the beautiful spring grass, impeccably dressed in a black funeral dress, was Maria Mollinary von Lohenstein. Regarding the particular question on why she was in black this day, there would be no simple answer. It was November, and no one in particular from her immediate family had ever died in November, for they all did that in May. No, Maria was instead dressed in black for her late Auntie, who's birthday it was today. Normally, an Aunt's birthday was a cause for celebration, but not in particular for her. Remembering how on each and every November 13th her mother would have a small breakdown, and how many dark stories, funny stories, sad stories or happy stories about her late Aunt Hermina she was told, Maria naturally, in concordance with the rest of her family, thought this day as a black day.

Strolling, she penned slowly a letter to her mum, telling her to take everything easy, have lots of tea, talk it out with dad, the reassurance that she herself was perfectly fine, and the apologies for not tending to her on such an important day. Hopefully, Wilhelmina would not throw a tantrum today, it would hurt everyone in the family.
Stuffing the completed letter into her bag, Maria strolled on, intending to sit down and do some mild reading. Straightening her dress out a bit, she found a empty bench somewhere and sat down gingerly, not wanting to disturb her dress, pulled "Love and Freindship" by Jane Austen out of her bag and started reading.
