The sun was setting at Hogwarts, and it was beginning to give Lynette the creeps. The candles had somehow lit themselves as the light had dimmed outside, and things she hadn't yet noticed were coming to life, and she didn't like it. Hurrying along through the many corridors, Lynny thought back on her day. She'd made a friend, which was a bonus, as she hadn't expected to so quickly, but she was a lot older than Lynette, which was upsetting. It seemed only older students took an interest in her, as though they wanted her as a pet. Lynny frowned, clutching her school books to her chest slightly angrily and climbing up two more flights of winding stairs before making it to yet another, very similar corridor. She had to hold in her groan of impatience as she peered down the candle lit corridor, only to see a couple of older students mingling outside what seemed to be another room. Lynette let out a sigh, and slowly walked past them, before it dawned on her that she was well and truly lost.

What a day, Lynette thought to herself as she slumped herself down on the small stone bench, next to an interesting sculpture which she couldn't quite identify. Books on her lap, Lynette buried her head in her hands and closed her eyes. She needed to be in her dormitory soon, or she'd be in trouble on her first day - something which was very daunting. She wasn't at all somebody who enjoyed getting into trouble, and she knew how much she'd blush when people saw her being scolded by a professor, and once again, Lynny felt like a small, helpless animal. Students walked past her, not really recognizing that there was a young student sitting to the side of them, and she realized that nobody was going to help her find her way unless she asked, which was something which she never did, she was far too shy. She decided then that maybe just this once, she'd have to get into trouble, or she'd end up finding her way into an even deeper problem when she was lost further into the giant castle.

For Alice, life was going well. She had had an extraordinarily lovely holiday, and the thought of coming back to the place she had grown to adore as an older student was exciting. She still felt young but the realisation that there were younger and other students below her, made her realise how much she had actually changed in the last year. She didn't have any lessons for a few days, and enjoying her time to relax back into the environment of school life, she had had a lovely time meeting some new people in the younger years. The past year had flown by amazingly quickly, and smiling as she realised this, she scurried up some steps, heading her own way to the Ravenclaw common room. It was time soon for the first years to get back, and seeing a lot scurrying different ways, she couldn't help but to laugh a little. Not at them, but at the memory she had of trying to do that and ending up failing and turning up late. Rolling her eyes to herself as someone pushed past her, she stopped and turned into the third floor from the grand staircase. She would weave another route back and maybe, who knew, but she might meet some new person. Pushing the door open, she found an eery quiet noise arriving - the noise of students moving, but the sound being muffled. Last year she had decided that she didn't like this corridor, and so hurrying down it quickly, she kept her head down.

However, after walking past a strange sculpture a few times, due to the problem that she was still too small to push against the heaving crowd of older students, she found a nearby bench and sat down. Turning to the side, as she made to get up, she found her gaze locked upon a smaller and obviously younger girl before her. Smiling kindly, she realised that this girl must either be lost, or trying to break the rules. Deciding to not judge her and go for the former option, she smiled again, and sat back down. "Hey." She began, smiling warmly at the girl and tucking her legs up on the bench in front of her. "Are you ok?" She asked, glancing down at the books on the girls lap. Quickly identifying them as first year books that she remembered reading, she paused before continuing. "Are you a first year? What house are you in?" She continued, remembering that when she was in those shoes last year, the most important topic at the beginning of the conversation was what house the person was in. Many people could determine what sort of person you were from this conversation, but generally it just brought up conversation Alice found. Smiling still warmly at the girl, she waited for a reply, as the noise from the corridor slowly died away into the hubub of normal school life that Alice had grown so accustomed to last year. It was good to be home.

Lynette wasn't aware of the student sitting next to her until she spoke. She pulled her head away from her hands in shock, before realizing it was just a student, and not a professor. Grateful for this, and even more grateful that she seemed to be a friendly student, Lynette tried to hide the bewildered look from her face. Nobody approached her, ever. It was always Lynny who would make the first move towards somebody, as they wouldn't notice her if she didn't. But this girl seemed to have recognized that she wasn't doing too great, and Lynny then smiled nervously. She rarely spoke to other people, and tended to hide away in the background, as her shy personality lead her to do, however she wasn't going to hide from people who wanted to talk to her. She knew that whatever came out of her mouth would be wrong though, which would put her off and stop her from speaking freely. She always felt as though her words were muddled up in her mouth, and they came out in a fast babble which nobody could understand if she didn't concentrate hard on pronouncing them slowly and clearly. People didn't really understand this trait which Lynette had, and would back away as if she was diseased, or had a mental health issue, and shouldn't have been allowed around other human beings. She tried not to let this get to her, but it was often difficult to realize that she did sound a little strange, and understandably people wouldn't know how to react.

Lynette looked up at the young girl, though she seemed to be slightly older than herself, and her mind raced with words she wanted to say, but none of them would make a sentance. They were all single words which didn't make sense, but they did to her. Lynette thought that everybody had this problem, though she was starting to realize that maybe it was just her, that she was plain weird. She looked down sadly at this thought, before remembering that if she didn't reply soon, the girl would walk off and she'd be caught by a professor, which she didn't exactly want to happen. 'Hi', she said, which was simple enough and made sense to everyone, and she shrugged. Yes, she was ok, just lost and confused. 'Yes', she added to her next question, suddenly realizing that she was only speaking in single words. It was much easier that way. 'Ravenclaw'. Lynny felt stupid, and began to blush, looking down again awkwardly and inwardly knowing that this girl would think she was weird.
