indianna grace could feel pairs of curious eyes around her burn metaphorically hot holes into the faux fur of her beanie. now the petite framed girl wasn’t sure if this was a good thing or a bad thing as she teetered through the hallways with an armful of books against her chest. but what indianna did know was that if she was anyone but herself, she would have whirled around with a sneer on her rich features and argued their silent judgement with a “what? it’s cold.” and cold it was, but instead of questioning the pairs of eyes that fell upon her, indianna avoided them meekly and continued to wriggle her way through threads of students either side of her. it was clear that the girl wasn’t looking for attention, if she had been then indi wouldn’t be sweeping her eyes about in every manner but contactable. the girl was just being herself, ms indianna grace lee, and she just so happened to have a differing taste in fashion to the norm. in fact, nevermind the fashion, the spanish literate, british-dwelling, transfer student from beauxbatons, france, was just different. her two toned doe eyes peeked gingerly down yet another hallway; she was shy, she was timid, she had a flight response so keyed in that one felt like it was their task not to startle her. there were reasons for this, ones that indianna wished to remain undisclosed but in any which way you looked at it, she was certainly not any old typical seventeen year old.

teetering on a pair of wedge heels, indianna collapsed against the library door and opened it up for herself by pressing her weight against the glass pane. immediately a warm breath of air grazed indi’s icy cheeks with a soft crimson blush and her petite body shivered pleasantly beneath the woollen folds of her thick cardigan. this didn’t seem like such a bad place to sneak into, away from the cold. of course, nothing would quite beat the ravenclaw common room but the library had pinned itself as a notable second. despite that... or perhaps because she had celebrated her birthdays in the derbyshire winter and had schooled in a place where blizzards were not an uncommon occurrence in january, indianna was rather adverse to the cold. new zealand had as such been her little slice of a sunshine summer up until now. the weather turned surprisingly quickly down in this neck of the woods. still, indianna wasn’t complaining. so long as she had her red fox to keep her company the girl was happy to brave the cold just for the privilege of being here. a whole year of school left and it was to be spent here at hnz with none other than sam prince. they had gone from a long distance relationship to practically seeing each other twenty-four-seven. that of course was an over exaggeration but even so, it had never crossed the seventeen year old’s mind that such closeness might cause problems in their relationship but thus far, it had been better than ever and indianna honestly could not wait for the year that was stretched out ahead of them.

“i’d like to return these please,” indianna smiled and plopped a neat pile of books down onto the counter before the librarian. the plump woman, who had previously been occupied with a cauldron cake, peered over the thick rims of her glasses at indianna before pushing the frames further up the bridge of her nose. “certainly dear” she smiled enthusiastically back and brushed the crumbs from her pudgy stomach. her stout fingers ran along the spine of the book on top of the pile and flipped open to the leather jacket as she sent her enchanted quill to use. “indianna, is it?” raven haired girl nodded back, looking exceptionally innocent with the synthetic ears of her fox hood broad atop her head whilst the librarian continued to make jovial small talk. of the weather, and her studies but somewhere in the midst of brief weather report from the older woman, indianna caught herself wondering where sam was and what he was doing for lunch. she didn’t have a class until the afternoon after all.

jennifer wilkonson was often caught in the hogwarts library acting relatively civilized compared to what people thought of her based on her appearance. she had always been the tailored, bubbly looking jenna but as an older, angsty teenager she dressed like this. it caught people's eye but she really didn't care, she was who she was and she would wear what she wanted. people gawking at her were not going to change that. so in the library she snubbed them, just like they would do to her because of her dark make up and outfits, as she read through the end of middlesex. she had been reading it for a little bit now and was almost finished with it, she had two more pages to go until she would start her next few. you see, the thing about jennifer was that she never read one book. she treated books the way she was currently treating men, more than one to keep things interesting. but the hufflepuff was more tied to the books she read than the guys she dated because she really only felt something for one person who she could not date because she could not trust him. cheating really did stuff up everything. if only matthew had waited for her, maybe she would have been ready but at fifteen years old she had not been ready to take that step and even at seventeen she was not. she wouldn’t be for a while at the rate things were going with her emotions which suited her just fine. jenn really didn’t think that there were any guys that could handle her in a relationship right now, she would eat them alive like a black widow. curling her tongue over her top lip, jennifer moistened it before closing the book and sighing softly. it had been a good one. she liked cal and the plot and so other people could enjoy this work just as much as she had and hopefully go into reading it without prejudice as it needed a reader with this but the people who gazed at her curiously in the library and in the corridors were not them. if her appearance was shocking they really couldn’t read about hermaphrodites and be accepting. so perhaps there were no others at this school that could understand this book but it was a risk she was to take with returning it to the librarian.

flicking her blonde locks over her shoulder, jenn pushed the chair back with her feet before standing up on her heels that made the already tall girl even taller. she straightened her dress so it was over her thigh highs and picked up the pile of books she was to check out with the few she was returning on the top of that pile. jenn saw that the girl ahead of her was just making friendly conversation with the librarian who jenn had come to be very close with over the years so she just put the books down beside the girl and smiled at the fleshy librarian. “oh hello jennifer,” she heard the woman say to which she smiled. “i’ve got some books to return and to check out.” glancing over at the girl beside her she smiled gently, curious where she recognized her before. it was possible that they had class together and the girl was a transfer but it was also possible that they were in different years and only saw each other in the corridors as they passed one another. either way the long haired hufflepuff said, “hey. i’m jenn…?” waiting for the girl to introduce herself, she looked back to the librarian who was working through her pile of books that she had read and was now restoring. how the woman knew which books she was taking out and which ones she was returning was not clear to the hufflepuff because while they did talk about books often times, it was not so often that she would remember which books she was consuming on a daily basis. but this was why jenn was not going to be a librarian even if she would enjoy to be surrounded by books day in and day out.

not only was indianna sporting the faux ears of a wild animal, but she also had the keen senses of one too and immediately was alerted to the fact that a click of heels was drawing idly closer. ever so gingerly she teetered around on her heels for a glance at her new company with those careful doe-like eyes of hers, each movement as delicate and flighty as the last. she should have known better by now that there was no need to be so apprehensive in hogwarts new zealand. she had learnt that the very first instance she had stepped into this school that there were no snooty nosed, daddy’s little girls whispering about everyone that passed them in furious french. well at least there were none that she had encountered yet anyway. indianna would be lying though if she said that she wasn’t in the least taken aback by the other girl. for one thing, the blonde quite frankly towered over her tiny 5’2” frame, it was enough to intimidate anyone of indi’s height even if her wedge heels had given her that extra boost. for another, her general appearance seemed almost made to daunt. like indi, the blonde’s style was a whole world away from the rest of the students but this girl was standing at a whole other extreme. indianna admired that fashion and make-up from a distance but wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole herself. a look like that wasn’t something she would ever be able to carry off, nor did she particularly want to. so it was surprising then when the girl’s tone didn’t sound at all like what indi had assumed it would, it was not dry or bored and with that smile in her voice, so very far from sarcastic that the seventeen year old almost did a double take. the frantic thud of indi’s heart was regaining it’s slow, calm beat with every second that passed.

“hey. i’m jenn...?”
the corners of indianna’s mouth lifted ever so slightly in the smallest of smiles as the girl before her suddenly became infinitely more familiar. jenn. she knew that name from somewhere and it certainly matched up with the blonde in her head. “i’m indi.” more confidently than she had expected, indianna’s rich british accent lifted between the pair of girls. but the introduction on her behalf wasn’t aiding at all in how she could possibly know this girl. had they passed each other in the corridors? sat in on the same class? maybe. but for some reason jenn felt a whole lot more familiar than just a random face. “i’m new actually, i just transferred here from beauxbatons and...” the entire time indi had been speaking she had been thinking of how she knew practically nobody but her boyfriend and the girls in her dorm. in fact, sam had been practically the only one she had been spending all of her time with in these first few days. and then in the midst of her talking, it hit indianna. sam, of course! this was the jenn he had told her all about. how she hadn’t realised the instant the blonde had spoke her name, indianna didn’t know. “you wouldn’t happen to be friends with sam prince, would you?” the smile that had only touched her lips before had spread into a cutesy grin right across her rich features as indianna leant back against the librarian’s desk, hoping for the sake of staying unhumiliated that she was right.

lamelamelame.

jennifer smiled softly as the girl told her she was new. she remembered what it was like to be new, except not at hogwarts new zealand. she had only really been new in her first year but that did not count. but, she had been new in salem when she went there for the rest of one semester and a year. it had been a difficult thing at first but she had quickly made friends and a testament to that was that she was now living in a house with her best friend instead of with her mother as she had been for quite some time. jenn opened her mouth to respond to indi when sam was brought up. with a quirked eyebrow she wondered if that was all she was known for, for being sam’s best friend. surely there had to be something else about her that was her identifier, perhaps that she was the quidditch chaser or that she dressed this way but indi was not the only person to recognize her for being sam’s best friend. “peas in a pod, why?” pursing her lips in thought she said both too loudly for a library and a little bit too excitedly, “oh!” she chuckled softly as she said, “you must be indianna. sam told me all about you. certainly smitten, that boy.” although jenn was sure that it was a little forward, she gave the girl a warm hug as a welcome to the school and to show her that they were going to be friends because if she and indianna did not get along it would always pose a problem for her relationship with sam because jenn was such a big part of his life as he was a big part of hers. pulling apart, jenn flashed the girl a bright smile and said, “this is great. sam seemed so down last year that you weren’t here. plus, new friends.” she was sure that by now the transfer student was questioning what kind of people sam had as friends but jenn was excited for her best friend and at the prospect of having another girl to spend time with because most times she did not have friends who were girls, only riley alexandra had proven to be someone she could enjoy her time with, in fact the pair were even thinking of moving into an apartment together when they went to play for a professional quidditch team. jenn only hoped that this friendship did not turn out the way that hers and taylor’s did because that girl was straight out crazy and had punched her for no reason at all and despite the black circles around her eyes, she did not want them to be real.

“so which house are you in? can’t be hufflepuff,” jenn stated, because as two hufflepuff seventh years, they would have had to room together but clearly they did not or they would have been through this bit earlier as she would have seen pictures of herself and sam together. not only this but indianna would have been able to see pictures of scorpius, sam, hoshi and herself all together as younger versions of themselves but this was clearly not the case. this did not mean that she could not befriend a Gryffindor, a ravenclaw or a slytherin because outside of herself and sam, all of her friends had been in different houses. taylor – who was no longer her friend – and jessie were both Gryffindor students and scorpius knight who was possibly closer to her than sam was, was a ravenclaw or he had been before he transferred away much to her dismay and hoshi koshiba had been a slytherin. now of course, the group had dwindled down to just a duo so she hoped that perhaps indi could become her friend as well.
