James was very glad to be back in New Zealand, home was hell now that Ezra had moved back into the house following the death of their grandfather. Ezra wasn't too pleased either having inherited all of their grandfather's estate including his house, he just couldn't touch it until he was seventeen. He kept referring to himself as a rich man in waiting and it was driving James nuts to live under the same roof as him. Salvation had come when he received his reply from Micha having written to her early that month. She had agreed to meet him at Obsidian harbour to do their shopping for the new year and if he played his cards right, it wouldn't be the last time he saw her during the holidays.

James used the floo network to travel to the Leaky Cauldron, he came out the other side couging and with soot on his robes. He hated using flu powder. After dusting himself off and picking up the things he dropped when he landed, James made his way out of the pub and made his way over to Flourish and Blotts which was he and Misha had agreed to meet. He wasn't sure why he was nervous, they were just meeting up to shop, it wasn't a date.

There wasn't anything more exciting than being allowed to hang out by herself in Obsidian Harbour. Just having turned thirteen, Misha Corvey's parents had become slightly more lenient. Of course the young Ravenclaw was made to promise that she wasn't about to go to Bleak Street. And she had to be home by a certain time, with receipts of where she went, but other than that she was by herself and free. The brunette girl used floo to travel from her American home to Obsidian where she was meant to meet up with her school friend James and go shopping. Her parents kept calling it a date, which was overly frustrating for the dimple cheeked girl. She wasn't going on a date - she didn't know James that well yet. She needed at least a few more nice hang outs before considering things a date.

The bookstore wasn't far from where she had landed, and outside she could see Jame's brown locks just over another person walking by. "James!" She called out, jogging over to him, strings of her cropped hoodie in her hand. The tiny fashionista loved to wear her muggle clothing everywhere - some how more interested in muggle fashion than wizarding. Once she stopped she tugged up on her high waited jeans to make sure that they stayed in place, revealing as little of her stomach as she could. "Hey how are you?" She asked awkwardly, unsure if she was supposed to give him a hug or not.

It was nearing the start of third year and Maddie still had so many things to buy for the new school year. Thankfully, Charlotte had offered to go shopping with Maddie and her mother had allowed her to go shopping without her which made Maddie feel very independent. She was about to go shopping with her best friend unaccompanied for the first time! Maddie couldn't wait to get started on a day of shopping although she couldn't just buy whatever she wanted, her mother had written a list of things for her to buy and the correct amount of money so Maddie couldn't buy unnecessary things, much to her dismay.

Maddie had agreed to meet Charlotte outside the Leaky Cauldron and from there they would get their third year school supplies. She leaned against the brick wall and dumped her bag by her feet as she waited for her best friend to arrive.

The new year had started and Charlotte was very excited. She was growing up now and, after a lot of arguments with her parents, she had successfully chosen the subjects that she wanted and hoped that they would not put any extra pressure on her this year, especially after the lecture she managed to get about improving her grades. Despite this, she was confident that she was going to do much better than last year and couldn't wait for the year to officially start when she came back to Hogwarts. It took a while but Charlotte eventually convinced her parents to go shopping for her school supplies with Maddie and she couldn't have been happier. Her parents hadn't met her best friend before but they were still trusting that the both of them would get the shopping done nice and quickly which was probably not going to happen. Whenever the two of them met not many things ended up getting done but she had no idea what else they would do and only hoped that she wasn't going to break her parent's trust.

When Charlotte made it to the leaky cauldron she was very happy to see her friend standing there leaning against the brick wall after such a long holiday. She had always missed her friends whenever she hadn't seen them for a long time and couldn't contain her excitement. "Maddie!" she exclaimed, skipping over to her and giving her a big hug before leading the way into Obsidian Harbour where all the buzz of people were. "How was your holiday?" She asked this calmly, despite how desperately she wanted to jump up down upon seeing Maddie after so long, as they walked towards the bookshop where they would firstly buy their books. It didn't take long for Charlotte to find someone she knew. "Maddie, look who it is!" she said in almost a whisper as she tugged on Maddie's robes so they could hide behind the nearest bush she could find. It was James and he was with another girl. Charlotte watched them, not having any clue as to who the girl was.

James smiled broadly when he saw Misha jogging over to him. Meeting the girl had been a surprise given that they met in the middle of the night where neither of them should have been but she was drama free and James needed that in his life. Everything with him and Maddie, pranks with Charlotte and all manor of trouble with Hemi and Rudolph. It was nice to have a friend who didn't make it their life mission to raise hell in Hogwarts.

"Hey Misha," He grinned at the girl as she came bobbing along clutching the strings of her hoodie. The girl seemed a little awkward so James decided to break that and pulled her into a quick hug. "Ok now that's out of the way, what's on your list that isn't you know, on mine? What did you pick for electives?" He asked, the textbooks for elective classes would be the only difference on the pairs book list and James wanted to start the conversation with something easy and light and just see where it headed. "I'm also thinking about a new broom, I reckon I've got a shot at seeker this year so I need to up my broom game,"

Misha was only slightly taken a back, having very little time to react to the hug. The dark haired girl giggled slightly, coughing away the faint tinge of red that graced her dimpled cheeks. The petite third year reached into her bag and rummaged for a second. "Here it is!" She pulled out a small list. "I decided to try out two electives I think. Care of Magical Creatures and Divination. I'm just not sure though, because so many of the classes sound interesting but then are totes boring." She admitted, remembering just how bored she'd been in History of magic.

She listened to her friend, raising a dark eyebrow into a quissical expression. "Seeker? Someone is ambitious." She teased him, giving him a playful shove and then putting her list away. "Oh! My mom gave me money to get us each an ice cream! So if I'm honest, I'd like to start there." The ravenclaw rubbed her tummy slightly, in a way to show she was hungry - which was amazing considering she'd eaten less than an hour ago. However that was typically how she was, she was always hungry.

Maddie looked over and saw Charlotte bounding over to her and she smiled, she hadn't seen her best friend in a few weeks and she couldn't wait to spend the day shopping with her before they returned to Hogwarts. She moved away from the wall and opened her arms to receive Charlotte's hug, she squeezed back, hard. "Yay! I'm so happy you're here!" she squealed while jumping up and down on the spot. Maddie picked up her bag and followed Charlotte down the main street of Obsidian Harbour. She linked her arm within Charlotte's and shrugged at her question. "It was fine, I haven't really done much. We went on holiday though so that was nice... What about you?" she asked her friend. Suddenly, she was being pulled down behind a bush "wha.. what? Who are you looki..." Maddie asked her voice trailing off as she saw who Charlotte was referring to. Who was that girl he was walking with? Why had Maddie never seen her before? More importantly, what was she doing with James? Maddie narrowed her eyes as she watched them walk down the harbour. "Do you know who that is?" she asked Charlotte.
