Rue stared down at the floor in dismay. So far, her first day had been a complete disaster, she had no friends and was losing her confidence fast. She thought back to her past, and why she had ended up in Beauxbatons, but it made her eyes sting, so she concentrated on the people around her instead.
It was like she was a ghost. The noise of chattering students was blurred and jumbled in her head. The people walking past her made her feel dizzy, and the fact they all ignored her was making everything worse.
Rue was starting to believe she had her own strange medical condition. As she kept back the tears, and more students passed by, she realised how long she had been standing around.
Rue was shocked at the fact she had been standing there for about an hour. She checked the clock to see if her watch was fast, but it really had been an hour. She sighed. Everything seemed to be going more quickly, and every day she was tired. She had sleepless nights and moments when she thought she couldn't breathe.
Rue sniffed in silently, rubbing at her eye. A student had noticed her, and she hid behind her hair. It wasn't exactly the best hiding place, but it made her feel secure.
She trembled, strangely scared about meeting anybody, even though she felt lonely. She backed away slowly.
'W..What?' In her head, her voice was slurred and far away, but to anyone else she sounded normal. Rue took her hands away from her face in surprise. 'Wha..what?' It was a question to herself this time. Rue didn't understand, and just wished she could be normal like everyone else.
This time, she couldn't stop the tears escaping, although she wiped them away furiously. She wasn't a wimp. As her motioned blurred, she guessed it was because of the tears, and hoped it was nothing more than that.
