Audrey Beauchamp
Ravenclaw, Fifth Year
Lessons 1-6
Lesson One
Audrey was curious as to what Professor Borisyuk would be like as a teacher. She suspected he didn't have to do much beyond flex a muscle or give a stern look to keep people in line. Audrey wasn't stupid by any means, she wasn't about to antagonise him. She was more concerned about learning as much as possible and doing well in the exam. She was a little interested to learn about the founders, specifically Rowena Ravenclaw of course, but she was really curious about the TriWizard Tournament. She knew bits and pieces about it, and knew vaguely that it had been controversial, but she was interested to learn proper details. And she was also kind of tempted to get a tattoo or a piercing. Maybe if she aced the OWLs she'd ask the professor if he had a recommendation - make sure she at least made a good impression before asking. Lesson Two
Audrey didn't waste time in getting started on note taking. She couldn't help but roll her eyes at the mention of Gryffindor having been an accomplished duelist, knowing that would probably inflate Teddy's ego more. But she would have thought Hufflepuff would have been the more vocal about muggle rights, since that was the house who would take anyone. Despite Audrey's typical disdain for the house - not so much the people, but her own desire to have not been in it - she had to admit what she heard about Helga Hufflepuff was actually interesting. She thought charming food was fascinating, and the fact that a lot of the recipes were hers was cool. The food could be a bit bland at times, to be fair, and perhaps the kitchens could pick up a few more modern cuisines, but the fact they could even have such good feasts was something to appreciate Helga Hufflepuff for. No wonder she and Rowena Ravenclaw were friends. Audrey didn't necessarily have many Hufflepuff friends, in all honesty, but she didn't have problems with any as such. Even Oz, not that she'd tell him that. She'd write about it though.
My cousin, Oswald Brambleheart, is in Hufflepuff, and honestly it makes a lot of sense. For one, he's part-goblin and because Hufflepuff was one of the more welcoming house founders that makes sense she wouldn't turn him away. He kind of sucks at Quidditch and a bit all over the place with dueling but he keeps trying and working at it so he's certainly got the whole determination thing. Also he's pretty creative and his carving is actually pretty good and maybe when he gets wand making down I think it'd be really awesome to have a wand made by him. He's not very nice though so maybe that's not a deal breaker for Hufflepuff? It's probably just to me though I think his actual friends like him.
Lesson Three
Audrey was keen to hear about the other two founders, having been surprised by her own interest in the first two. She was unfortunately disappointed to learn that Rowena Ravenclaw was not very well documented. Why, she thought, would you not want people to know your story if you had made a name for yourself? She did wonder if she had come across the Loch Ness Monster, but slumped at the idea of dying of a broken heart. Clearly nobody would actually be worth that, she thought. But she supposed, thinking about it more, maybe she would have not been able to make this class due to being confined to her bed with chest pain if Loki had not sent her a pink rose back. So maybe it did make sense.
Salazar Slytherin was interesting, though. She wondered, with a name like Salazar, if he'd been discriminated against himself and was turning that into something he could control with his pure-blood obsession. Audrey was glad his ideals hadn't won out - she had a muggle grandparent or great grandparent somewhere along the line she hadn't met, so her own blood wasn't 'pure' - but she couldn't help but admire his obvious skill. It was just kind of a shame it got so twisted, because there were different ideas that they could gain from muggles that could only improve magic, she thought. Audrey wondered if that very line of thought was why the hat had ultimately decided on Ravenclaw over Slytherin. She recalled it had been a toss up between the two.
Funnily enough the hat actually spent a little time weighing up both Ravenclaw or Slytherin for me before deciding on Ravenclaw. I think it makes sense for the little we know about about Rowena Ravenclaw and for her house traits because I'm definitely smart and creative. I kind of feel sorry for Helena though, permanently stuck to her mother's legacy without really having one of her own. I guess that's why the hat thought I could be in Slytherin but I mostly just want to make magic more useful and improve existing spells and use all sorts of knowledge from different places for that which is probably more of a Ravenclaw thing, also I can't say that the hat was wrong because I'm not that arrogant. Part of me hopes that Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw kept Godric Gryffindor in line, though.
Lesson Four
Audrey wanted to know more about the TriWizard Tournament. It was fun that they got to play Quidditch against the other schools, but it was only ever the one game and only one team got to do it. Getting to do other competitions would be really exciting, and the more the professor talked about it the more Audrey was fascinated. It was certainly extremely dangerous, and maybe killing students was not the wisest way to go about it, but also Audrey was built different and would have just not died if she'd been in that situation. She vaguely remembered hearing about the maze last year, but the tasks all sounded really fun as much as they were dangerous. Interesting problems to solve on the fly. It piqued her curiosity even amidst how tired she was and she thought about it for a while after they were dismissed.
I know it's a tournament about magical skill, but personally I'd probably implement a task similar to the maze, but start it where everyone was without their wands at the beginning. Then they'd have to use wits and some more mundane muggle problem solving to get to where a lot of wands were, correctly identify their own (as like a proof that they know their own wand and are worthy of wielding it) and then use it to escape from the maze. And would have to dodge a few things on the way, but you could use the traps against each other before you get to the wands. Like maybe there's a dummy shooting flames, and you can try and lure it towards where there's a devil's snare in order to get past the devil's snare because you don't have your wand to easily cast incendio. That sort of thing. Or maybe just a good old fashioned scavenger hunt, you can use magic to get the pieces you need but you have to think about what the answers are and what the right options are. Less life-or-death mostly. You could still have some dangerous magical creatures in for audience excitement though.
Lesson Five
Audrey, not for the first time, wished that she was older. If she'd only been born a good forty to fifty years earlier, maybe she could have entered the TriWizard Tournament. The fact that it was all Gryffindors and Hufflepuffs made her roll her eyes - a Ravenclaw might have actually won, but she quickly bit her tongue when the professor mentioned the headmistress had been kidnapped. She wondered what the Death Eaters had against the tournament, but she supposed that was something to look more into. Being tempted by Veela in the second one was...weird, she didn't like that that was a task they'd thought of. Maybe the headmistress's replacement had been some weird pervert. She liked the second task, as for the third a three way duel was...something. But she supposed it wasn't coming back any time soon. Maybe one day they'd think of something interesting. Audrey wasn't going to hold her breath. Lesson Six
Audrey was so tired from all her disrupted sleep she barely even registered Teddy's attire. She knew she ought to spend the lesson studying in the class, but feared she might fall asleep and she certainly didn't want to incur the professor's wrath. She headed off when they were dismissed, only briefly registering the outfit when she got to the stairs to the Ravenclaw dorms. She'd study, but she needed to maybe sneak an hour of sleep if she could. Before the dreams came back or the stupid mandrake leaf lodged in her throat, either or.
