In his two years at Hogwarts Marzen hadn't attended one event. In part it was because he was usually asleep but another reason he'd never had anyone to go with. There were plenty of pretty girls in his year he could have asked but none of them attracted him. Of course he thought his friends were beautiful but he could never see himself with any female for that matter, even after Hogwarts. Was he normal?

Having dressed in a black shirt and blazer, he placed the few roses he received in his top pocket, proud of place. He'd even heard talk from an older kids that he could preserve the flowers with magic if he used the right potion, and this was something he was sure to suggest to his friends.

He walked into the hall and made a quick glance around, already he saw boys and girls dancing, some just as friends others romantically but all that reminded the young boy was the fact he could never have that. Staying close to the edge of the room he ate food and drank his sorrows away watching thoughtfully.

Five roses. Xavier had received five roses for valentine's day. He'd never thought he would receive so many and that each of them would be from his loving, amazing friends. Yet he had gotten roses from them and it had been the just cause for his wide smile that entire day. He wasn't usually one to celebrate valentines, and was more so inclined to forget the holiday existed as he was so indifferent to it all but that year was of course different. He was celebrating it with as much enthusiasm as the next person simply because he was included in the holiday. He had sent roses and he had received roses, and now he was on his way to the valentine's ball. He was not dressed to impressed but he was dressed neater than usual so he fit in and didn't stick out like a sore thumb. Dirt seemed to have that affect on him sometimes but he was refusing to be dirty that night.

He entered the great hall with his five yellow roses bunched together in one hand, quickly spotting one of his friends standing on the edge of the hall. Marzen looked like such a wall flower and Xavier wanted to change that, make sure the other boy felt as included as Xavier was on such a lovely holiday! He walked to approach the boy, smiling as he exclaimed "Hey Marzen! I loved your rose." in greeting.

"Oh hey X-man." He smiled using the nickname he'd wrote on the valentine's note, as Xavier one of his best friends approached. He tried to sound happy as he spoke but what he'd been thinking about a few minutes ago weighed on his mind. His sister was a few years younger and already talking about boys, but girls matured faster than boys so maybe that's why he couldn't find himself liking anyone. He wanted to talk to Xavier but how could he if he didn't even know what was wrong with himself.

"I know right, I got two!" He said perking up slightly, pointing to the roses in his pocket. He beamed when he saw that Xavier had brought his roses along with him as well.

Xavier smiled as Marzen greeted him with his nickname. He was glad to run into one of his friends and have fun that night, even if Marzen seemed less happy than usual. His smile widened as Marzen held up his roses. Xavier felt guilty for not sending Marzen one as he had received one from the other boy but it was an unfortunate circumstance of time as the day the roses we due, he was busy catching up on school. He held his five roses up in return, exclaiming "We both got roses! Yours are prettier than mine, though." in an attempt to cheer the other boy up. He was still unsure if Marzen was sad to begin with but he had noticed something off about the boy that he could not put his finger on. He hoped that Marzen would either open up if there was something bothering him or would at least take the opportunity to make the most of Valentine's day. "Would you like to dance with me?" Xavier then asked, momentarily looking out to the other students on the dance floor. They seemed to be having fun, so why wouldn't he want to join in?

"Bryony and Ellie sent me them!" He smiled as he glaneed around for the rest of their friends but it was just them two it seemed. He smiled at Xaviers compliment and tried to shrug off what was bothering him. It would be selfish of him to bring the mood down for others, especially on Valentines day. He looked at the dancing students having fun when Xavier asked if he wanted to dance with him.

"But Xavier," He mumbled, "it's a slow song. We can't dance to this."
