Hugo had never imagained that over the break he recieved not only his class list and time table but also a badge and a letter appointing him as head boy. he honestly wasnt sure how or why he would have been chosen. it was never something he had thought about but if he had done he would have thought fraiser would have been the person selected. he was charismatic; people liked Fraiser. whereas he, well, he wasn't unpopular, but he was not a fan of the spotlight and much prefered being somewhere behind the scenes. so once school went back he easily found himself in the peace of the library. his home in the castle even more so than the monthly offices. He didnt really have much homework this early in the semester. he just wanted to be in the peace of the room and after the break where he had read through a good many books he actually didnt feel like reading, instead, he made his way to one of the return trollies, picked up a handful of books and headed to the aisles.

Teddy had taken it easy during the first few days back at Hogwarts but now, with homework already mounting because of his full timetable, he had to return to the library. He was a bit sick of the place after OWLs last year, so he told himself this would be quick, find the textbook he needed, then head back to the common room. This was meant to be his relaxed year after all and give him a breather before NEWTs next year. The thought that next year would be his seventh and his last at Hogwarts crept into his mind as he arrived in the library. His thoughts then drifted, as they often did, to Elio, and more specifically his HM article that had called for Teddy as head boy. It was flattering, sure, but it still felt a long way off. For now, the new head boy and girl were just starting their tenure. He wasn’t too keen on June, but he liked Hugo and he had been genuinely happy when he’d heard he’d been given a badge. He was just turning into the aisle he needed when he saw Hugo right in front of him. “Oh hey! I was just thinking about you,” Teddy blurted out before thinking about how that sounded, immediately frowning and feeling weird. “Not like, okay, that sounded weird." He took a breath to reset, "I mean I was thinking about you getting head boy and then I saw you. Congratulations by the way!”

hugo turned around from putting a book back when he heard someone talk behind him. and he was suprised to see Teddy there. he knew teddy. they were prefects together. but they were in different years and different houses so had never really been closer than mere aquatences, someone who he might nod to in the halls.
He frowned slightly when teddy said he had been thinking about him. he was sure it was just him being polite but when he admitted to it sounding weird he shrugged. "Hey Teddy. That is a terrible choice of thought, I applogise for taking up the head space he said, trying to keep his expression deadpan. Once Teddy clarified, he smiled slightly at the congratulations. "Oh, umm, Thank you. i really wasnt expecting it" he said. he had assumed it would have been Fraiser. "umm, how was your holiday" he asked in a not very smooth transition to not talking about himself.

Teddy tried not to look at all thrown off by Hugo’s dry remark. “Apology accepted.” He teased, his tone light. Then he listened to Hugo say he wasn’t expecting to be chosen for head boy. He shrugged, “I mean, I could have expected it for you.” He was sorry for Hugo having to work with June but he decided not to bring her up right now. A change of subject was very welcome. “My holiday was alright, it sucks in the middle of winter though.” Teddy commented, even after many years, he still was not used to that weird thing Hogwarts did where the main break happened in August. “How was yours? Have you come back ready for NEWTs?”

Hugo smiled as Teddy teasingly accepted his apology and said that he could have expected it for him. "Well maybe i could expect it for you next year" he teased back.
he nodded in agreement as teddy said it sucked that the big school holiday was in the middle of winter. "Yeah. it is weird. cold and gets dark so early. and being at home is weird as all the other kids in town are at school and you stick out like a sore thumb." he said. though he had found this year wasnt so weird as now he was older people just assumed he was one of the students at the town's university. a first year studying something interesting like literature or philosophy. "but the cold dark wet weather is perfect for reading or movie marathons, we have a family tradition of watching the entire lord of the rings movies each winter" he said. it was one of his mum's favourite books and movies and he really enjoyed the tradition of it. he shook his head when asked if he was ready for his NEWTS, "not really i dont know what i am going to do after them. so its a god thing they are still almost a year away. are you prepared to start sixth year?" he asked.

Teddy's eyes lit up at being teased, he loved stuff like this. "Well yeah, there's not much in the way of competition in my year." Teddy couldn't deny that he had already thought about it, and noticed that he was the only male prefect in his year for starters. Sure, a non-prefect could still get head boy but he wasn't sure who would. He nodded along, thinking back to the break before taking a breath and asking, "What's Lord of the Rings?" Teddy asked then mumbled, "Because it sounds like a boxing competition." Hugo didn't strike him as someone who watched boxing, come to think of it, Teddy didn't know anyone who watched boxing. He scoffed at the sixth year question, "I keep telling myself sixth year is the coasting year, but I can already see myself pushing for perfect O's and top house points earner." Teddy had a problem holding back sometimes and stuff like continuing to take classes he dislikes was a prime example.

As Teddy said that there wasnt much competition in his year he thought back to the sixth years. he had just a few days ago spent some time with june organising the patrol pariings and the prefect meeting snd he stuggled to think of another sixth year boy. then he thought of the monthly and the only one he could think of was milo who was more of a behind the scenes person there.
whne teddy asked what lord of the rings was and if it was a boxing competition he couldnt stop the flabergasted expression from crossing his face. "What‽ what is lord of the rings? boxing? he said in suprise. he knew that some wizarding families didnt really access the muggle world. but the lord of the rings. it was a classic, a cultural staple. "no it's like the grandfather of all fantasy books. they were written over a hundred years ago and they are still classics about a Hobbit who finds a cursed ring and goes on an quest to destroy it in a volcano in Mordor and others join him and there is a big fight against the evil who is taking over the land. and there are elves and dwarves and orcs and a wizard called Gandalf i dont know how else to describe it" he said. they made a series of films from it about sixty years ago and another series from the prequel the hobbit. and we watch them all every year." he said.

Teddy nodded along listening to Hugo describe Lord of the Rings. Maybe it rang a bell somewhere, but he certainly had never watched the films or read the books. "Huh, that's interesting. I didn't know you can destroy cursed objects by throwing them in volcanoes." He mused, thinking the story didn't sound much like fantasy at all by Hugo's description. "You'll have to show me some time."
