Hi!

It's Emma again. I just joined last week with Jessame Rose Trewelly, an unsorted student. I wanted to also make a house elf, so here's EKKY (or Ekarin LXVII as he's formally known)!

For those of you I haven't met yet, I'm 24y.o. I'm a Kiwi (NZer) but I'm currently working in South Korea as an ESOL teacher. I'm a travel-holic, and have been to over 20 different countries since I first left NZ soil 8 years ago.

If you have any questions about NZ (some of you seem to be under the mistaken impression that it gets ridiculously hot in the summer - - I wish! haha!), please feel free to ask me. I look forward to meeting you all!

.:-Emma:.

Oh it doesn't get extremely hot in the summer? I thought the exact opposite. It's nice to see you back Emma! And nice choice of character, you get to be a bulgy-eyed adorable house elf! :D

Haha! Thanks for the welcome!

New Zealand has a temperate climate for the most part. The very far north (called, surprisingly enough, Northland) can seem sub-tropical at times.

In the South Island, summer temperatures are on average around 15-16°C (59-61°F). The North Island (where I assume Hogwarts is located) tends to be warmer with summer averages around 17°C (62.6°F) in the lower part, and 19 or 20°C (66-68°F) up north. The hottest months are January and February.

We do not have humidity issues like Asia or much of America. Humidity is rarely a problem, so hot weather is very welcome. However, due to industrial activity in the northern hemisphere, there is a large hole in the ozone layer pretty much directly above New Zealand, Eastern Australia and Antarctica, so sunburn and skin cancer are very serious issues and most Kiwis would not consider using sunscreen with a lower SPF than 30.

In the winter most of the major cities rarely get snow, as they are at sea level. Christchurch and Dunedin may get a dumping every couple of years. When snow does hit, it causes huge problems as we don't have systems in place to deal with it. For example, unless they're really into skiing, most people don't have chains for their car tyres, and 'winter tyres' like they have in Europe are almost unheard of. (That's right, tyre is spelled with a y in NZ.) :)

Average air temperatures in winter range from 1 or 2°C (34-35.5°F) in elevated areas down south, to 12°C (53.6°F) in the far north.

Eep... there I go lecturing again... I'm such a nerd! :-B :D Anyway, hi!! :-h

Edited to include Fahrenheit temperatures
