Type of childhood:
Hamish was raised in a large household, full of family. His magical abilities developed at a young age, and often spooked the rather skittish boy. Hamish cannot recall when he discovered be was able to communicate with snakes, but when the ability was discovered by his parents, the mood turned rather south. Considering this to be bad magic, Hamish was raised to completely deny this part of himself and for the most part he obeyed. Once his ability was discovered, however, his out-going and excitable attitude diminished as he was closeted and told to refrain from such behaviour. He was raised with stories on good and bad wizards, and soon realised that quite a few wizards and witches that were considered dark or bad, were parselmouths.
Pets:
Hamish has two snakes; (Danger) Noodle, a Burmese python and Guppy, a boomslang.
First memory:
Being yelled at for 'controlling' snakes.
Most important childhood memory:
Hamish's most important childhood memory was when he first realised that he could speak to snakes.
Why:
He found that he had a connection with the creatures, even though it was a trait that has caused him deep anxiety and difficulty with his family, a part of him found it to be something that was unique to himself, and meant that he could have a constant companion in the form of a snake. Despite their poor reputation, he finds them honest and loyal creatures, and loves both Noodle and Guppy almost as if they were roommates rather than pets.

Hamish wanted to be a healer, but ended up finding himself applying to become an auror when he graduated. He still idly thinks about becoming a healer, but has decided that that dream has passed him by, for now.

Drives and motivations:
Hamish is generally motivated by his own needs and desires. He doesn't spend a lot of time thinking about others unless he has a reason to.
Immediate goals:
Hamish is attempting to figure out what to do with his life. After retiring prematurely from being an auror and deciding to not bother becoming a healer, he has taken a temporary position as a professor to see if that would be something he would be interested in.
Long term goals:
Part of Hamish's problem is that he lacks long term goals.

Why?
Hamish doesn't feel that he's a particularly bad guy. However, he has been told on numerous occasions that he is just like some of the most horrible, or considered 'evil' people in history. It's something that weighs on his mind frequently.

His family. Hamish's top priority is his family, and he would do nearly anything for every member of his family, whether they were on friendly terms or not. He has a fierce loyalty to the Kaster family.

Hamish is directionless and frustrated, with an additional sense of FOMO. His siblings are all on different tracks, life-wise, settling down with partners, children and stable occupations they can't to do for the rest of their lives. Hamish cannot seem to settle on anything.

Hamish has an awkward relationship with his siblings. He loves each of them, but he finds them all insufferable in their own way. Hamish was the black sheep, though that title is contested by his older sister, Tamalia. His older siblings (excluding Tamalia) each performed well in school, became prefects and head people, and went off to get stable jobs and start stable families. He constantly compares himself to their progress.
