Guilt

Kaede started to run. Running always helped her cool off, and that was something she needed to do. She had told herself earlier that she would go up to the cliffs to cool off, and that was where her feet started to lead her. Her breath came out in thin streams as the cool morning air entered and exited her lungs.

Finally reaching the top, she keeled over from running so hard. It hadn't been since last year that she had run like that, and she hadn't really practiced during her first term. She knew she should have tried to keep up her running abilities, but she realized, guiltily, that she had purposely forgotten.

She started to breathe normally. The cold whisps of mist still came from her mouth, but they weren't as large and dissapated faster. Taking a deep breathe, she let the ice cold air fill her lungs, reveling in it's coolness. After taking a few deep breaths, she realized that she no longer had the annoying feeling she had had just moments before in the hall with Ai and that one Slytherin. Regret washed over her, filling her whole being and changing her calm expression to one of anguish. Never before had she said things like she had said to Ai. She knew that they were true, and that it really wasn't as mean as she thought, but still, the guilt was there. It made her want to cry. Never would she imagine things coming out of her mouth. She was supposed to be nice, kind, and caring, despite who it was. Her goody two shoes image wasn't really one of truth though. Everyone had their faults. Standing up for herself and other people wasn't really a fault that she had, but it was something that sometimes revealed the anger she kept hidden most of the time.

Nonetheless, it still caused tears to well up inside. Finally, she could bear it no longer, and fat drops of water streamed down her face. She didn't regret saying those things to Ai, but she did regret letting her anger take control of her, which was something that she had strived to keep under control.
