Horrific History

Grakul lived a highly unstable childhood: His mother (Lydia) was killed when he was five and his step-mother was a bully. Grakul's mother was killed by Death Eaters because of her blood status. Lydia and Grakul's father (Altair) were not living together when she was killed. This was due to her family having financial issues which she was attempting to resolve before they begun living together, even though they were already married. Lydia, her parents, and her three siblings present, were killed. Fortunately, Grakul and her one month old son (Mickra), were both staying with their father who was soon left to cope alone.

Two years later, his father wed a forceful Death Eater named Heather. Heather instantly began forcing her ideals upon the children and her new husband. Though her husband never became a Death Eater or accepted the ideals, Altair did not discourage this behaviour, turning a blind eye. Heather continued to act this way, though she became more violent towards Grakul until he finally started listening to her. He was scared into the Death Eater ideals at a young age, believing that his family would be hurt if he didn't do as Heather said. At the time, Grakul and Mickra were incredibly close.. But that would all soon change.

When he was nine years old, Heather had Grakul under her control so much that she was even being nice towards him. However, Mickra was not so easy to scare and Heather became frustrated and more violent. Altair finally stepped in- to save Grakul, not realising what was happening to his other son. Grakul and Altair's bond became stronger than ever. Mickra was upset that his father wasn't helping him and when he was eleven and had started at Hogwarts (Ravenclaw like Lydia) he managed to find a friend who was willing to let him move in. With Mickra gone and Grakul nearing the adult age, Heather began to pressure him further and she finally convinced him to join the Death Eaters. Grakul did not attend any of the meetings or support the Death Eaters as much as Heather wanted, though she forgave him when he found himself a girlfriend (Leina) who was a pure blood.

Once he had finished at school, Grakul and Leina grew closer, and at the age of nineteen, Grakul proposed. The couple moved in to a house in Brighton (where Leina was from) and shared many happy days until the night Mickra arrived, four years later. Mickra had begun working for the Ministry of Magic, having received excellent grades. He longed to become an auror and he was already working to stop dark magic. Mickra arrived at Grakul and Leina's home where he informed Leina of what Grakul was. Leina, who was tolerant of all blood statuses, packed and left Grakul that night after failing to convince him otherwise.

Mickra soon assisted the Ministry in tracking down Heather Gellantara and throwing her in Azkaban where she spent the rest of hers days, and his own father who had, under the control of Heather, become a dark wizard, killing an enemy of Heather's. It was suggested that she had him under the imperius curse, but Mickra managed to dismiss this (possibly out of vengeance) and his father was sent to Azkaban.

A lot of history between Grakul's mid-twenties and mid-thirties, is unknown, and the few details known are sketchy.

It is thought that Grakul and Mickra met again when Grakul was twenty-six. Grakul showed Mickra his dark mark and Mickra tried to capture his brother. However, things did not work out like this and Mickra was attacked by Grakul who then took him to an abandoned house and attacked him with his fists. He had sworn to pay Mickra back for ruining his life with Leina and imprisoning his father, so he continued to hold him captive until he no longer recognised his brother, and finally killed him.

Several months later, Grakul turned up in St. Mungo's with severe head wounds and a serious concussion. He was due to stay in for surveillance for a few days, but left that afternoon. These injuries caused Grakul to lose a large chunk of his memory, including that of what had driven him to become a Death Eater.

In his mid-thirties, Grakul moved to New Zealand to escape whatever it was he believed he was escaping (he had attempted to bring back his memories by visiting his old home, but noticed someone eyeing him oddly and assumed, for one reason or another, that he was being followed). Grakul took a job at the Ministry and met Larissa Sedgwick Senior, who worked in his department. The two of them hit it off and Grakul was a changed man, though he never stopped being a Death Eater. Grakul and Larissa were soon married and he bonded with her teenage daughter, Larissa. As Larissa didn't have a father, Grakul became the father figure in her life and he had never been happier. Unfortunately, come Christmas that same year, Larissa Senior discovered that Grakul was a Death Eater and had him taken away. He ended up in Azkaban and has been there since.

Over the three years that Grakul has spent in Azkaban, he has changed a lot; thinking over his life, trying to remember what drove him to do as he did. He does not remember murdering his brother or joining the Death Eaters and though he did do those things, he can't think of a reason why and he is, in a great sense, reformed.
