Melodie entered St Mungo's and sat on one of the cold seats in the waiting room. She looked around the room at the people waiting like her. She felt so alone. For once in her life she was doing something by herself. She really hadn't thought it throught. Oh how she wished she was sitting with Abathyn or Izaak. She didn't ask Izaak, she knew it would be too hard for him. For not long ago he had Isabella had lost their daughter and it pained him to go near the hospital. Melodie looked down on her watch. The midwife should be seeing her any minute now.

Corinne smiled wishing farewell to her third appointment of the day before scanning the next file and making her way out to the waiting room.
"Melodie Lowe please, you're next" she smiled at the woman, knowing it could only be her as the other patients were all known to her.
Indicating with her hand for her newest patient to enter her office she grinned brightly at the heavily pregnant form of Erudite Melthrobe and her husband. This was their 7th child and they were hoping for it to be a boy. So far six boys before this one, her husband having been a seventh son as well meant that the magic would be strong in this particular child. She could have told them of course that they had nothing to worry about, that it was indeed a boy but they had not wanted to know. A girl would be just as welcome in their home. She liked the practical couple, they were so loving and tolerant of everyone and everything.
Walking into her office after Melodie she closed the door behind her with a smile.
"Take a seat please".

As Melodie was called into the office she felt butterflies in her stomach. She sat down on a chair facing the desk as she looked around the room she was now in, it was very white and smelt of sterilizer. She sniffed at it as the midwife entered the room and sat on the chair opposite her. Melodie held her stomach as she looked up at the midwife fumbling with some papers on her desk. Hopefully this would all be over soon, being in hospital was very unnerving for her, seeing all the things that had gone on there with her family and friends.

"So Melodie this is your first visit" Corinne smiled rising from her seat once more and coming around to the woman's side. She swiftly checked the woman's vitals making sure heart rate and blood pressure were normal before returning to her seat and jotting them all down. She would wait another moment or two before doing an iron check on her which was always necessary.

"How far along are you now? Or do you know?" it wasn't a strange thing to ask many women often came as far along as three months and weren't even sure of this. First timers of course. Corinne smiled quill poised waiting expectantly.

"Yeah, this is my first" Melodie said, feeling very weary indeed. As the midwife took her vitals, Melodie seemed to let out a sigh of relief. She felt safe here, not as safe as she could be, but still safe. "About 3 months, I think..." Melodie replied, trailing off at the end of her sentence. She thought back to 3 months ago. It had to be Adam's, who's else could it be? Unless...she thought. Melodie shook her head, it wasn't, she tried to reassure herself. She took a breath in again and looked over at Corrine for reassurence.

Thoughts fluttered through Melodie's head as Corrine spoke to her. So much had gone on since around 4 months ago. She wondered if it could be his, but she didn't even want that thought to come to her mind. "What next?" Melodie asked, placing her hand on the side of the chair, looking for something to cling to, anything.

Corinne smiled kindly at the woman then pulled a chair up beside her.
"If you don't mind me saying so, you seem very unsure about the dates Melodie. This isn't anything to be worried about, if all is going well with the baby and I'm sure it is, the babies size usually gives us a very good indicator of how far along you actually are. Would you like me to check to see how your baby is doing?"
the smile never left her face, the young woman seemed almost terrified and it was part of her job to make sure the mothers remained calm and relaxed.
"If you'd like to move behind the curtain there, there's a hospital robe that you can put on just lie on the bed when you're ready and call me"
she walked back around to her seat jotting down a few notes in her folder to give the woman some time.

Melodie sensed that Corrine knew she was worried. Melodie was relieved when she was asked to go behind the curtain and change, she would have a little time to herself. She gently slipped on the hospital gown and looked down at her swollen belly in the loose gown. She took a seat on the hospital bed and breathed in the sterile smell. "I'm ready" Melodie said possibly a little too quietly.

Melodie tied her long hair behind her in a loose plait and waited for Corrine to assess her. Melodie knew she was quite big for only three months, which worried her slightly, but she was sure everything would be normal. She held her hands over her belly, feeling slightly protective and looked up at Corrine as she stepped through the curtain.

It wasn't long at all before Corinne heard the faint voice from the other side of the curtain, walking around she smiled at Melodie before scourgifying her hands. With each minute that passed as she did one examination after another, all routine but for a first timer they would appear most likely extreme. Legs up in stirrups, cold gel on her belly. Corinne reassured her all the while until finally she asked Melodie to get dressed once more and meet her back at her desk.

She removed the surgical gloves she had slipped on then cleansed her hands once more as she headed to her desk to wait for her patient to join her.

Melodie was patient as Corrine checked over her and did all sorts of examinations and tests. She tried to stay calm and it helped having the midwife reassuring her. When the time came for Melodie to re-dress she pulled the thin curtain over and picked her clothes up from the nearest chair. As she slipped her top over her once slender frame, her hand stroked over her kneck and the small nip from Izaak's lips. She shook it off, now was not the time.

Melodie pulled back the curtain and sat down on the chair again, now fully clothed. She looked at the midwife and waited to hear the news. She was hoping everything was alright because she had been told she was very large for three months along.
