Sefina hadn’t excelled in her first term as she’d expected. For the first time in her life, she was surrounded by peers who were smarter than her, and she felt less than adequate. Although she enjoyed her classes, she found herself buried in the things she wanted to read, and her grades suffered as a result. She wasn’t looking forward to the conversation with her parents at home.

While Sefina wasn’t social (or had made friends, for that matter,) she decided she wanted to attend the Yule Ball, if only to people watch. She found a yellow and blue printed dress, not exactly a gown, and finished it off with a pair of brown flats and a red cardigan. Sefina was just fine not standing out among the masses.

The girl slipped into the Great Hall, admiring the winter decorations and magical snow. She gravitated towards the towering tree, mesmerized by the colorful baubles and sparkling tinsel. It was more gorgeous than all of the students and staff at the ball combined.

Sadie was extremely excited for the Yule Ball since she had never been to one. She was pretty sure that Soren was gonna meet up with his friends and Sadie's dormmates Aurora and Rosie. What Slate was gonna do, she had no idea but she really hoped that sooner or later was gonna meet him here, however, for now, she decided to join someone here. She noticed the girl she had definitely seen at some lessons, yet, had no idea what her name was. It was a good way to find out. "Heeeey! How are you? The ball is amazing, right? Oh, the fairies, they're so perfect, so surreal," Sadie easily chatted already, hoping that the girl was gonna match her energy or at least wasn't gonna shush her off.

Sefina’s eyes widened as she turned to face the girl who’d approached her. She recognized her from classes, a Gryffindor, but she couldn’t remember her name. Sefina noted her cute red jumpsuit and felt even more plan in comparison. “Hi,” Sefina replied meekly, looking back to the tree. “They seem like they’re enjoying themselves. They are pretty…” Hearing her own voice in her ears was weird.

Sadie immediately felt absolutely comfortable when her classmate agreed with her. "Ooh, they absolutely are enjoying themselves. I mean, who wouldn't if looked like them?" Sadie lightly joked. "I want to get one actually, they're amazing and easy to get along with," she talked. "How do you think, did they protest to be as decors here?"

“They look pretty happy to me,” Sefina replied, her voice trailing off as she watched the twirling fairies. She thought they complemented the tinsel quite well. “I wouldn’t want to be a decoration.” She shook her head, trying to shake away the disturbing image of herself being chained to a tree. “I think you can buy one at the Menagerie,” the Ravenclaw suggested, trying to be helpful. Personally, she wanted a cat, but her parents said she would have to wait until second year, and it depended on her grades. With the way things had gone this term, that didn’t seem likely.

Sadie nodded in agreement, the fairies seemed to enjoy everything that was going on. "I wouldn't want to be one too, imagine if everyone was just starring at you like a weirdo," she frowned, not even thinking that she was talking about something that she was doing herself exactly at the given moment. "Yes, I've heard that too, I really hope that my parents will agree," she excitedly exclaimed. Would be sad if she didn't get the fairy. "Oh, I'm Sadie by the way," Sadie finally remembered that she had to introduce herself and put out a hand for the girl to shake.
