Mallory stood from her desk when they had all filed into the room. She wore a soft white robe today, with pure white lilies doting her dark braided chignon. "Good afternoon, darlings. Today we will be practicing the Confusion Charm. Does anyone know why this spell is so important?" she asked, choosing one of the students to answer. "Excellent, yes. It takes a lot of concentration to perform spells, and confusing your target will cause them trouble, which may offer you a few more valuable seconds to defend yourselves," Not that any of the students would especially need to do this, but it would come in handy during the duels, and it was good to know. It was always better to be prepared. "Some very skilled wizards are even able to use this spell by itself to erase memories instead of just confuse the target, and the victim can end up in St. Mungo's being treated by a healer," she continued, hoping they took in just how powerful this spell could be. She then went on to usher the fourth years down from their benches, gesturing for them to gather on the floor with her instead.
"Come down here, there you go," she was beginning, waiting for them to spot the dummies that were around the room. "Today, darlings, we are going to be practicing the charm on these dummies around you. The incantation for this is Confundo," she explained, running through the pronunciation with them together. "Say it together please," she smiled warmly at her students. She didn't particularly want anyone to get hurt today just because they weren't saying it correctly. "Very good. Alright then, please approach one of your new friends for this afternoon." With a flick of his wand, the dummies came to life, appearing much more threatening than they had been while still a moment ago,
"You will need to cast a successful confusion charm on your dummy, and we will know when you have because it was cast Lumos. If you take too long to do this though the dummy will start to get angry and cast stupefy on you," she warned with a smile, wondering how well these students were going to do this lesson. "You can only cast one charm on him, otherwise you're going to get stunned," she added, before motioning for them to begin practice.
Mallory took a step back to let the students begin casting the charm and watching to see if anyone needed help or to be sent to the hospital wing, impressed by how well some of them were doing. She walked slowly behind them, stopping on occasion to give little pointers. Once the time was up, she addressed the fourth years once more, flicking her wand to return the dummies to their original still position, calling the class to a standstill. "You've all made good progress today. Please do remember to read up on the Amplifying Charm and the Quietening Charm," she reminded them gently, before bidding them a farewell and flicking open the door so they could leave.
