Fourth Years, Lesson Two

Landon smiled as his class filed in. He greeted with his usual bubbly nature, "Greetings, class! Everyone did well on their assignment." He folded his arms across his chest. "Today, I will reveal to you what one of the plants we will be working close with is. Get out your writing utensils and take some notes if you wish."

Landon stepped to the side, revealing the wriggling black plant. He leaned against the desk, standing beside the Bubotuber. It smelled strongly of petrol. "This is a Bubotuber. You may or may not have seen this in potions. It looks rather sordid, but it is very valuable, even to teenagers. Look," Landon pointed his wand at the swellings on the plant. "Never poke this, unless you want to be sprayed with yellow-green pus which might cause a bad rash on your skin.

"The pus has a horrible effect on our skin, if undiluted. But if diluted properly, the effects can be quite the opposite and make your social life a bit more interesting and less depressing."
Professor Carter waited for the people writing notes to finish and then continued, "Now you've seen the actual plant, next lesson we will plant them and harvest the pus afterwards. Don't forget to bring your dragonhide gloves. Class dismissed!"

----------

Assignment: RP the lesson. For extra credit, write a paragraph on your opinion of the bubotuber.

Ten was generally feeling better about things since her first week, and it was for the most part down to Professor Carter. As she took a seat in her second Herbology class of the year she was feeling cautiously optimistic about it all, as though she'd been given a new pair of glasses to see the world out through. Bubotuber pus, Ten had heard, was excellent in potions although did make a horrible smell if used incorrectly. For a moment she thought the professor would poke it, just to show the class how bad it could be, but she was pleased when they were just supposed to write about it instead. Making a note to bring her gloves to the next lesson, Ten left feeling more content than she had in a while, and hoped for a smooth ride for the rest of the semester.
Bubotuber pus is an ingredient commonly used in potions. Raising the plant however can be a little tricky because you risk getting covered in the pus, which would cause you to have red rashes and itchy skin, and you'll probably have to go to the hospital wing and explain yourself. If used properly though the pus can be used in lots of different things and has lots of benefits, so it's worth knowing how to treat and grow it properly.
