Fourth Years Lesson Three

After last week's lesson, Geo was feeling a little uneasy. The classes where she was required to teach her students about the unforgiveable curses was always the hardest and those she didn't look forward to. "Welcome in," the blonde greeted the fourth years as they took their usual seats, and the woman waited until they'd settled down to begin their discussion.

"Last week we looked at the Imperius Curse, today we will be learning about the Cruciatus Curse," another one that would send anyone who used it straight to Azkaban. "When this curse is cast successfully, it will inflict excruciating pain on the person or animal it's cast on," Geo had witnessed it once, and would have been quite happy if she could say she never had the chance to repeat the experience. "To be able to cast this spell, you must truly want to inflict pain on your victim," Geo explained, hoping everyone was paying attention because she was only going to say it once. "This is why it's considered a dark curse, because the intention to cause harm needs to present." It was one of those spells the professor would never understand why anyone would want to use.

"Quite frankly you don't need to see the effects of the curse to know what it can do." Geo had decided that while Professor Waldgrave may have wanted to demonstrate to his students what Crucio could do, it was simply unnecessary in the woman's eyes. "That being said it is important that you full understand the power of the curse," Geo told them, taking a moment for those that were drifting off to come back to the room. "If the victim of this curse is subjected to it for long periods of time, it is said that it can drive the victim into insanity, as the effect this can have on someone's mind can be incredibly damaging." Of course Professor Adler didn't need to remind the class what would happen to those that tried to use the curse on others, but she would do what she could to make sure they were pretend to defend themselves. "While there is no specific counter-curse for this, it would be worth practising and remembering your shield spells, because these would be the best chance of deflecting a potential curse such as this one from taking hold." At least there was a better chance they could defend themselves, even if it wasn't a complete guarantee.

"For your homework today, I would like you all to write an essay on the history of the curse. Once you've done that you may leave," Geo dismissed them, quietly taking her seat behind her desk and hoping that this years students faired better than those who had to bear witness to a practical demonstration.

Alana had been glad to get through the lesson on the Imperius curse without the spell being cast on her or anyone else in her class. For the next lesson, they moved on to the cruciatus curse, which she was very confident Professor Adler wouldn’t be casting on any of them. She took notes as the professor talked them through the very dark and painful spell, and Alana found herself hoping she never found out how it felt. She took detailed notes on the spell and made a note of the homework at the end of the lesson, and once they were done, she packed up her things and made her way out of the classroom.

Magne walked into the defence against the dark arts classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He glanced towards the professor as the woman got started. They were moving on to the next spell. he took his notes and books and began taking notes about what the woman was saying. He had to admit he both understood and was a little disappointed that they wouldn't see it. Of course a spell which causes pain would be bad and not good to see, but it still made him want to see it. Eventually the lecture was wrapped up and they were allowed to leave, making sure he had a note of the homework as he left.
