--Zayne Baros was not entirely sure on how these things worked at all. All he knew was that he had to dress up, and he had to dance. Zayne liked to dance when he was alone and listening to music. But this was around a crowd of people. Zayne was hoping that not many would be going, but once he was heading out of the Slytherin House, and toward the Great Hall, he was smacked in the face with reality on just how many people were here. Worst of all, all of them looked more formally dressed than he did. Zayne was supposed to be coming here with Kaia Lutrova, a Ravenclaw girl that he had befriended. She was a pure-blood, and slowly was she helping him become more understanding of what blood type he was. But he knew the moment he returned home, all of it would have been for naught when his stepmother would just hammer it down that he was a disgusting Slytherin of pure-blood. And it was not even his fault either. Zayne waited in the Great Hall, hoping that he could find his purple eyed friend so that he would at least feel more comfortable here. Zayne went over to the snacks and picked up a chocolate chip cookie. He nibbled on it to calm his nerves. He felt a little out of place, but at least he was not having a panic attack though. That was a good thing. He never had one, but he heard that they were not pleasant to endure at all.

Kaia was a little unsure about this whole Yule Ball thing, mostly because it contained the word 'Ball' and anything that involved dancing and fancy dresses wasn't really her forte. Wearing dresses and looking all dolled up made her feel like such a complete idiot, even if she was going to be hanging out with her new friend Zayne Baros. They were far too young to be going as dates and since she had just met him she wasn't sure if they would ever managed to work out as anything more than friends. He was the first kid to ever be nice to her though so she owed him a lot. Her short legs carried her into the Great Hall where there was a group of students dancing, music playing in the background that even Kaia could agree was dancable to. Her long purple dress swayed at her legs and Kaia let her matching eyes glance around the room until she spotted Zayne. She hurried over to him and grabbed the entire plate of cookies."I feel so stupid in this thing, wanna ditch?" Kaia asked as she lifted the plate of cookies lifted a finger to her lips and playfully pretend to tell him not to tell anyone else. Ditch the ball and steal a plate of cookies, well if sounded good to Kaia.

--The Slytherin never really thought about just how boring this thing would be. He noticed some other people sitting on the side, and then there was that blonde Slytherin boy that looked like he always woke up on the double side of the bed and rolled over onto some spikes. Zayne wanted to ignore this however. He shrugged lightly, and he continued to nibble on his cookie. He still felt like an idiot for even coming here. What would his dad say? Probably nothing, just let loose and live a little. Which maybe Zayne should do. Let loose and live a little, which meant, maybe leaving this thing. Zayne saw his purple eyed friend, Kaia, walk over to him, and then steal a plate full of cookies. Zayne chuckled and he tugged a little on his white tie. "You feel stupid? At least you look good, this has got to make me look like a moron." Zayne glanced down and wondered if anyone would catch them walking out, with a plate full of Christmas cookies. That was just what they were, would anyone even care? Zayne finally nodded before he too took a plate of cookies from the table and he smirked lightly, "Sure, where can we go?" Zayne wondered this lightly, before he decided to just let Kaia lead the way.

Kaia grinned and lifted up her purple dress to point at it and look at Zayne with an amused look, he didn't look bad at all but he thought she actually looked good? "You look fine. but I'm surprised, you actually think this ugly purple dress looks good? Or do you just have a thing for the color purple?" Her voice held a tone if amusement in it. Either way it was nice for him to try and defend her honor while wearing this horrifyingly ugly and itchy fabric. The thing was that she hadn't heard of the fact that she was supposed to wear a dress at the last moment. Which by that point she had already promised that she would hang out with Zayne at the ball as friends and stuff. So at the last minute she had to borrow a dress from one of her roommates and the only one they were willing to donate was this ugly purple dress she was wearing now. It was far too frilly, it itched her skin, and not to mention she tripped over it every time she walked. Frilly wasn't Kaia's game either as she was more of a fan of cheetah prints and zebra striped shirts, torn jeans, studded belts, and wild colored nail polish. Kaia was not a girly girl of any sorts and because of that this was not going to do. A snort left her nose when she saw that Zayne had also grabbed a plate of cookies. They were going to eat themselves fat tonight, that was sure. "Probably somewhere outside or around the corridors. Probably somewhere where the Professor's won't catch us with all of these cookies." Kaia offered as she ducked under the arms of an older couple heading out to the dancefloor. They gave her a look for carrying out a tray of cookies but Kaia was too shy and too much of being in a hurry to really confront them about the look. Motioning for Zayne to follow her they left the Great Hall and Kaia peered around for some place for them to hang out with and eat cookies and snacks until they were told to go to their dormitories.

--Zayne truly thought that the Ravenclaw looked pretty good with a dress on. The Slytherin was not really old enough to have crushes or anything of the sort just yet however. However, Zayne did not think that it was the purple color itself because he was rather picky on shades of that color. And her eyes happened to be one of the shades that he liked. "I look as fine as a hippogriff in a tutu. But I'd imagine you in something a little more...informal. I do like purple, but it varies on the shade," said the first year in a rather bored tone, a tone he normally carried anyhow. At least he was not stammering like an idiot. Zayne would have preferred to keep his cool right now anyhow. Zayne was a laid-back person, naturally. He was someone that was naturally shy, but he slowly warmed up to others when given the time and effort. Which was how he and Kaia were friends. She seemed more outgoing than he, whereas he let others come to him. But things could be worse because he could have been a girl and had to pick out a dress. There were a million - no, billion choices for dresses. There were not that many tuxedos and such. Motioning to him to follow, Zayne obeyed with his own plate, ducking from the older students. He suggested, "Maybe an abandoned classroom or something. No one would think to go there." But Zayne was truly unsure about it as well. He never did anything like this before but it didn't really matter now because they were soon out of the pressures and traditions of the Yule Ball in the Great Hall.

Kaia let her mouth drop open for a moment as a full blown amused look appeared on her face, oh he was being much too harsh on himself right now. Personally Kaia thought he looked adorable but her shy nature made it hard for her to know that she was really thinking let alone admit it. Besides friends didn't call each other adorable so Kaia forced herself to forget the though of it all together. "Well we can think on the positive side, we only have to wear this for a few hours and then were done. Then we never have to wear it again." Kaia winked at him. Next year she didn't think she would be attending one of these things so she wouldn't have to ask Zayne to come with her. Then again she had no idea what was going to happen. Maybe he would have other friends by that point that he ended up going with. Kaia didn't really herself making any other friends but Zayne so she probably wouldn't be going either way. She was too shy and hardcore to make friends easily it seemed. Plus all she had wanted when she started here was one friend and she got her one friend, so she was all good. The idea of chilling out in an abandoned classroom sounded good to her so Kaia nodded her head and headed into the first abandoned one she knew of and waited for Zayne to enter before she closed the door with her foot. Then she hurried over to a desk and sat herself on it, setting the plate of cookies next to her. "I hope we don't get caught, I'm not giving these babies up." Kaia waved a cookie around and started to laugh as it fell from her hand to her lap. Now she was making a mess. "I hope my brother doesn't come around here either. I'm kind of afraid he might try to bully you or something, for a Hufflepuff he's awful temperamental." Kaia shrugged and bit into one of the cookies. Hades was nowhere to be seen tonight so she figured he was probably back in his dorm room or bothering this poor older girl he seemed to have taken an interest to.
