First Years, Lesson Three: Transfiguration Restrictions and Laws
Edward waited inside the classroom, greeting the first year students cheerfully as they settled. "Good morning! Great to see you all back,"he said with a smile. "No wands today, sorry! We’ve got some theory to cover before the exciting stuff, but I promise it’ll be worth the wait." Ignoring a few groans, he gestured to the board, where the chalk began writing. "Your first year is all about introductions and building a solid foundation. Inanimate to inanimate transfiguration is your starting point, while animate to animate transfiguration forms the backbone for advanced spells like vanishing, conjuring, and eventually human transfiguration."

He paused for those taking notes, then continued. "Human transfiguration, including animagus transformation, is rare and highly regulated by the Ministry. This school, like Uagadou, is known for training animagi, but comes with responsibility. Here’s a list of transfigurative magic, like animagi and apparition, subject to strict laws." The chalk magically moved to write a new list on the board.

Animagi: Requires a license and is heavily regulated. The Ministry has a list of registered animagi, for obvious reasons. Any animagi found to not be on the list faces time in Azkaban prison.

Apparition: A license is required to apparate legally. You will learn to apparate in year six, and not a moment before.

Invisibility: The Ministry has tried time and again to keep restrictions on the use of invisibility cloaks and spells. Naturally this is the hardest for them to detect, but be aware restrictions do exist and should be researched thoroughly.

Muggles: The Department of the Misuse of Muggle Artifacts office, also known as Creation of Dangerous Objects Department, attempts to minimise the number of harmful objects created from muggle items. Sometimes they are successful, sometimes not.

Time Travel: This branch is heavily restricted, and for obvious reasons. Very few people ever receive permission to travel back in time.

"That's all the time we have for today. Please make sure you have these lists written down, it'll make things much easier! See you all next week."

Angelo might have been slightly disappointed to find out that they would not be using their wands today. Still, it promised to be an interesting lesson, mostly because it still covered theory of magic. He's still bummed that he couldn't use his laptop or his phone to take notes or research for things like this and it sometimes made his hand achy to take all these notes. He hadn't even bothered to try using the quill and ink and parchment since doing it with a pen and notebook was just easier and less messy. He jotted down notes on inanimate-to-inanimate transfiguration and its role as the building block for more advanced magic. He glanced up frequently at the chalkboard, amazed at how it moved on its own to write out the key points. When the professor just wrote "for obvious reasons" on the board regarding animagi being regulated he had absolutely no clue why transforming into animals would be a bad thing. So he raised his hand. Once called, "Ser... ah... what's the uhm obvious reasons?" Sometimes he thought that professors often forgot that some students had only just found out magic existed a few weeks or months before school started. And then apparition was mentioned and what in the world was that? So he had to raise his hand again. "What's appartition po?" he asked, the word foreign and twisting on his tongue as he struggled to keep up with this confusing class. It was awesome though to know that Invisibility and Time Travel actually existed in this world though. He had more questions but he was honestly getting a little bit embarrassed about having to clarify so many things that others didn't have to. And so when the lesson ended, he decided to shyly come up to the professor, notebook, and pen in hand. "Ser?" he asked unsurely. "Ano... I wanted to ask lang po... For time travel? Is it like... do... if they... ano if they travel? Is it like... uhm... can they change future? Or like is the future still the same? Like you know? What if you travel and kill baby me?" There were so many movies that cover time travel so it would be interesting to find out which concept was actually true. He did remember that one scene from a really old superhero movie that his mum liked to watch where they traveled back in time to save the world from a purple alien.

Julian slipped into the classroom quietly, taking his seat beside Rhys. He didn't know whether to be relieved or not by the fact that they weren't due to use wands in class yet. As the chalk began to write on the board, Julian’s quill moved across the page, carefully copying the notes. The concepts were fascinating to him. He knew he'd never be that capable when it came to this branch of magic, but still, it was cool to learn about such things. Julian’s quill hovered briefly as the professor elaborated on apparition, invisibility, and time travel. Time travel, in particular, was of interest. The thought of altering events, or even seeing the past, felt exciting and dangerous. He didn't know if he would ever have an interest in changing events of the past - but he could see himself wanting to. He frowned slightly, jotting down an extra note to look up more about the regulations later. By the time the professor dismissed the class, Julian’s parchment was fulled of notes, carefully written to be reviewed later on.

Professor Edward Pirrip invited Angelo’s questions with a nod, listening carefully. "Ah, of course! Well, in the magical world, anything heavily regulated is because it's dangerous," he explained with a reassuring smile. "But don’t worry too much as these are just introductions and will make more sense as we progress through the course.” At the next question, Edward glanced at the board, then back at Angelo, "Apparition is the ability to instantly transport yourself from one place to another. Muggles call it teleportation I believe." Edward waved his wand at the chalk to add the definition on the board for the benefit of the entire class before continuing the lesson.

At the end of the lesson, as Edward was wiping the chalkboard clean, he stopped when Angelo approached him. He hummed thoughtfully at his time travel question, "Time travel is fascinating, isn’t it? These sorts of questions that have sparked debate among wizards for centuries." He said, his tone friendly although he thought Angelo might be disappointed not to have a straight answer, "The Ministry heavily regulates it since much about it remains a mystery. Take five house points for thinking critically and creatively though!"
