Emmaline had spent almost all day getting ready for the Yule Ball. She had never been to a dance before. They did have local dances at her last school, but always a night when Emmaline had to watch over River. Watching her younger sister had always been Emmaline's responsibility, but now she had a freedom to participate in activities that she had never been able to experience before. It was exciting, but also very nervous making. She wanted this to be perfect, plus she was going with Hunter. He had actually asked her, however she was not sure if they were going as friends or as something more. Emmaline was too young to really be thinking about boys or girls in that way, but for some reason Hunter made her feel more like herself, less stressed and more engaged in life. Either way, Emmaline knew Hunter and her were going to have a great time. She always had a good time with Hunter, whether it be in class or hanging outside the castle. The young Gryffindor hoped that this experience would be the same.

Emmaline looked back in the mirror one last time, making sure her outfit was perfect. She was wearing a white and black dress that River had sent her. River had found the dress at a second hand shop near her house. Emmaline had taken the second hand dress and added a little flare to it with her improving sewing skills. The originally dress was nice, but not as poofy as she thought a Yule Ball Dress should be, so Emmaline added some layers to the bottom to the dress extending the base of the dress and made sure to add some fun woven textures throughout the dress. She hoped Hunter would like it, although she knew she worried it might not fit the theme. Emmaline was not sure what theme the Yule Ball had, if any theme at all. The young girl adjusted her hair slightly, deciding against straightening it, her curly hair just fit her.

With one last glance and a deep breath, Emmaline left her dorm room and walked towards the Entrance Hall of the Great Hall to wait for Hunter. She was clueless how this was supposed to work. She assumed they would walk in together, but Emmaline had not really discussed it much with Hunter. She was still surprised her asked her at all. He, afterall, was one of her best friends so far at Hogwarts. They would just have to figure it out as it went along, even though Emmaline normally enjoyed having a plan laid out. She would just have to try to go with the flow, even if it was not that simple. Trying to push her nerves out of her mind, Emmaline waited outside the Great Hall for Hunter, wondering why she chose to wear heels, hoping she would not make a fool of herself while dancing. The young girl waited patiently, watching students entering the Great Hall, all seemed to be either excited about the night's events.

Hunter was extremely uncomfortable with this, he hated wearing fancy things. The only reason why he put effort into dressing up was obviously because Emmaline would wear something extremely fancy that she probably designed herself and he wanted to look the part. He was wearing a dark blue suit with a matching tie, a lighter blue shirt and black formal shoes, those things hurt his feet like hell.

The reason behind his invitation was to make sure Em would come to the ball. She seemed like the type that likes fun experiences but never had one from hisconversation at the lake, so he wanted to make sure she wouldn't miss this.

He was walking towards the Great Hall door when he saw Em "Wow! Look at you! Who knew you could clean up so nicely" he said to her teasing. He wasn't sure if that was a dress she might have bought or if she made it and he didn't want to be rude and ask her that. She seemed nervous but exited so he decided to not keep her waiting for much longer "Shall we?" he said offering his arm so they could head inside the Great Hall.

Emmaline continued to gaze around the area, seeing all the students dressing up, waiting for Hunter. Luckily he arrived shortly after herself, Emmaline smiling brightly when she saw him. She had never seen Hunter all dressed up in a suit and tie. She could not help but giggle a little bit. It seemed so out of character for him, though she did not know what else to expect; everyone was dressed up for the dance.

The young Gryffindor felt a little blush appear on her cheeks as Hunter admitted she cleaned up nicely. She had put a lot of effort into it, as she often did. She was happy that he noticed, surprised at the slight butterflies that appeared in her stomach. She did not often get compliments, from anyone. Her mother always critiqued what needed to be fixed, there was always something even if it was that her hair was out of place, or that her nails were not painted in the right colour. This compliment felt nice, appreciated. She smiled at Hunter. "Thanks" She said honestly doing a slightly dramatic curtsy. Emmaline looked over his outfit a little bit more. The blue was a good choice. "You don't look too bad yourself" She said playfully.

Emmaline could not be happy that she decided to come, she was very thankful that Hunter had asked. It was true, she probably would not have attended without him. It normally wouldn't be here thing, even if she was always excited to have this sort of experience. "We definitely should." Emmaline said as she took the arm he offered her gently. With that Emmaline walked into the Great Hall her eyes opening wide at the beautiful decorations that she saw. It was a lot to take in.

Hunter entered the Great Hall and all he could say was "Wow!" he said looking at everything. The treats seemed delicious, an Hogwarts usual, with the exception that they were Christmas themed. There were gingerbread cookies, peppermint sticks, hot chocolate.
He looked up to the ceiling and saw snow falling down, he didn't even knew that the weather on the ceiling could be changed. He thought that it would be the usual starry night sky that present on their sorting ceremony and the days after that, it was the first time he had seen something different than that.
The Great Hall even had a Christmas tree with what it seemed like a billion of lights and tons of presents underneath it. The Hufflepuff boy wondered if they would be opening any of presents at the end of the night.
He looked at Emmaline unsure of where to go next, he didn't knew exactly if she wanted to go grab something to eat or if she wanted to go dance straight away or if she had a third option about what to do. "What do you wanna do first? Tonight is your night so, I'm letting you choose what you wanna do." he said looking at her, that would solve his uncertainty for sure.
