“Good afternoon, class,” he started. “Today I’ll be going over two of the founders, Godric Gryffindor and Helga Hufflepuff.” He looked out over the classroom, remembering his own classes on the founders.
“Starting with Gryffindor: we know from history books that Godric Gryffindor lived in the West Country. It was once called the ‘wild moor,’ but came to be known as Godric’s Hollow. He was an accomplished dueler during his prime, and he fought against muggle discrimination. He believed that all who possessed magical abilities should be able to go to Hogwarts. You may know this already, but it is those beliefs which created a power struggle between the founders.”
Vader took a moment to breathe as he looked around the classroom. “Now, who can tell me which artifacts belonged to Gryffindor?” He pointed to one of the students in the front row.
“The Sorting Hat, and Gryffindor’s sword!” they answered.
“Well done!” he beamed at the student. “Five points to your house!”
“Gryffindor used to own the very hat that we use every year to Sort you all into your houses. The sword of Godric Gryffindor is a goblin-made sword, and is decorated with rubies. Now, as you probably already know, Gryffindor’s colors are red and gold, and their emblem is that of a lion, which most think stand for bravery.”
“Like our Scottish counterpart, we have house ghosts as well. While Scotland enjoys the presence of Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington, or ‘Nearly-Headless-Nick’, we here in New Zealand have Lady Helena the Brave. She is a noble of some sort, and looks like she is in her 20s. If you’d like to know more about her, I’d recommend asking her yourself.
“Now, onto Helga Hufflepuff. Her colors are yellow and black, and her emblem is that of a badger. Helga was known to be a caring woman, which is reflected in the house traits of kindness and hard work. She is said to have come from ‘valley abroad’, which historians believe refers to Wales. Hufflepuff was also famous for her ability to charm food. Many of her recipes are still used to this day. It is also her that we can thank for the many house elves that work for Hogwarts, as she harbored them in her own time, giving them a much better lifestyle than most house elves had and still have, as it was almost unheard of in her day.
It is said that Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw were great friends, so if you’re a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw with a friend of the other house, you are repeating the past.” Vader smiled. “So, again, where Hogwarts Scotland has the Fat Friar, we have a ghost named Evan Faire. I don’t know much about him, other than that he is a bit thin, and he has a big heart. That will be all for today, next week we’ll be going over Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Class Dismissed.”
Roleplay the Lesson, first to reply to Professor Hume gets 5 points for their school
Extra credit: If you are in Gryffindor/Hufflepuff, then write a small essay if you think the hat made the right choice. If you are not, then you can write about either a person you know, or if you think you should have been in Gryffindor/Hufflepuff and why. Worth 5 EC points.
